CSNY: Déjà Vu..... UK Release
CSNY/ DÉJÀ VU A film by Neil Young Neil Young's new film CSNY Deja Vu comes to UK cinemas on July 18th. Also available from July 18th on Film Flex in Movies On Demand on Virgin Media The war in Iraq is the backdrop as the CSNY "Freedom of Speech Tour" crisscrosses North America. The film examines the band's connection to its audience in both political and musical terms, and examines the relationship between Vietnam-era anti-war sentiment and today's post-9/11 environment. A Vietnam veteran sums it all up: "It's deja vu all over again." "One of the finest music documentaries in recent memory… a resounding success" Time Out **** "An exceptional rockumentary...riveting!" Empire **** Featuring: David Crosby, Graham Nash, Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Steven Colbert Short Synopsis: The war in Iraq is the backdrop as the CSNY "Freedom of Speech Tour" crisscrosses North America. The film examines the band's connection to its audience in both political and musical terms, and examines the relationship between Vietnam-era anti-war sentiment and today's post-9/11 environment. A Vietnam veteran sums it all up: "It's deja vu all over again." Long Synopsis: Since their debut in the late 'sixties, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young have functioned as the "town criers" of their generation. With songs like "Ohio" and "Find the Cost of Freedom", CSNY were in the forefront of Vietnam-era protest and anti-war sentiment. Though fondly remembered for their harmonies and love songs, the band has never lost their political edge. "CSNY: Deja Vu" finds the band heading out on their "Freedom of Speech 2006" of North America, featuring music from Neil Young's controversial "Living With War" CD. With "Embedded" reporter Mike Cerre aboard, the film documents audience reactions to the music and the band's ongoing connection with its fans, all against the backdrop of the Iraq/Afghanistan War. The film also examines events surrounding the Tour in the crucial election season of 2006. Songs from the tour are woven together with archival material, news footage, and audience reaction and observations, as the film examines the issues surrounding the integration of politics and art. About the Director: Bernard Shakey is the autocratic Svengali behind a series of films featuring Neil Young. His films include (Journey Though The Past, Rust Never Sleeps, Human Highway, greendale). His company name, Shakey Pictures, provides an apt description of the relationship between the director and Mr. Young. ~peace~

CSNY: Déjà Vu LIVE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CSNY: Déjà Vu LIVE ALBUM TO BE RELEASED THIS MONTH FREEDOM OF SPEECH 2006 TOUR RECORDING OUT IN CONJUNCTION WITH DOCUMENTARY FILM CSNY: Déjà Vu LIVE is a sixteen track audio companion to CSNY: Déjà Vu, the new documentary film directed by Neil Young that opens in theaters at the end of this month. The album will be released by Reprise Records on July 22nd and serves as the film's de facto soundtrack. The film chronicles Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's 2006 North of American Freedom of Speech Tour that focused on the musicians' stand against the War in Iraq and the impact that conflict has had on public opinion. While the documentary deals with the interaction between the band, audience, media and general population, the album includes full-length versions of songs that are heard as excerpts in the film. In some ways, the album serves as a kind of live greatest hits collection augmented by key songs from Young's earlier, controversial Living With War album. It offers the listener an opportunity to experience the legendary group's repertoire through the prism of contemporary conflict. In the film, songs from the tour are woven together with archival material, news footage, and audience reaction and observations, as issues surrounding the integration of politics and art are examined and observed. The performances are presented as they happened, with no overdubs, making CSNY: Déjà Vu LIVE nothing less than exactly what its title indicates, a rarity these days when most "live" albums are tweaked to perfection in post-production. The only instance of "studio magic," so to speak is a 100 voice choir which was recorded prior to the tour at Capitol Records Studios in Hollywood. Concert audiences heard the choir's performance piped into concert venues so that aspect is retained in the album as it serves to replicate the actual concert experience. In a recent Billboard interview, Young who produced the album with filmmaker L.A. Johnson explained the idea behind the approach. "It really is CSNY. It's not overdubbed, There's no fixes. It's straight from the board. The basic mixes are the mixes that people heard when we were playing it," Young explained. "So it's got rough spots all the way through it, which I think is refreshing, especially considering the subject matter. It is what it is, and that's the message of the music." Backing musicians who performed on the tour and heard on the album include Rick Rosas (bass), Chad Cromwell (drums), Spooner Oldham (keyboards), Ben Keith (pedal steel) and Tom Bray (trumpet). 100 Voices Choir was conducted by Darrell Brown and Rosemary Butler. Since the group's inception in the 1960's, joining elements of the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and Hollies, its members have been icons of musical activism. The film and the album are extensions of that CSNY tradition that continues to this day. David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young have all been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Crosby was inducted as part of the Byrds and, separately, for his role in Crosby, Stills & Nash; Stills was inducted for his role in both the Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash, Nash was inducted as a founding member of Crosby, Stills & Nash and Neil Young was inducted as part of Buffalo Springfield and as a solo artist. The film CSNY: Déjà Vu is in theatres and offered as video on demand on July 25, released through Lionsgate. CSNY: Déjà Vu Live track listing (song writers) 1. What Are The Names (David Crosby) 2. Living With War Theme (Neil Young) 3. After The Garden (Neil Young) 4. Military Madness (Graham Nash) 5. Let's Impeach The President (Neil Young) 6. Déjà Vu (David Crosby) 7. NEW NEIL YOUNG ALBUM & TOUR
NEW NEIL YOUNG ALBUM: CHROME DREAMS II SET FOR RELEASE OCTOBER 16th August 22, 2007 (Burbank, CA) — The new album by Neil Young, Chrome Dreams II, will be released by Reprise Records on October 16th. Speaking from a vacation retreat with his family, Young says it's "an album with a form based on some of my original recordings, with a large variety of songs, rather than one specific type of song." It comes at a creative peak for the artist, following the Greendale, Prairie Wind, and Living With War albums, and a summer 2006 tour by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young that concert audiences are still talking about. In many ways, Chrome Dreams II is the ultimate example of what Young does best: most of the songs were written recently and came quickly, and the "live" recording sessions in northern California were over before they were announced. The album includes all kinds of music, and taken together, offers a complete picture of where Neil Young is today. "Where Living With War and Everybody's Rockin' were albums focused on one subject or style," Young says, "Chrome Dreams II is more like After The Goldrush or Freedom, with different types of songs working together to form a feeling. Now that radio formats are not as influential as they once were, it's easier to release an album that crosses all formats with a message that runs through the whole thing, regardless of the type of song or sound." On the sessions for the album, Neil Young was joined by Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina, pedal steel guitarist and dobro player Ben Keith (Harvest, Comes A Time, Harvest Moon) and bassist Rick Rosas (Freedom, Living With War, This Note's For You). Most of the recording was done at Feelgood's Garage studio near Redwood City, California, with two vintage gas pumps out front and vintage studio gear inside. On the music itself, Young says, "Some early listeners have said that this album is positive and spiritual. I like to think it focuses on the human condition. Like many of my recordings, this one draws on earlier material here and there. I used to do that a lot back in the day. Some songs, like 'Ordinary People,' need to wait for the right time. I think now is the right time for that song and it lives well with the new songs I have written in the past few months. I had a blast making this music." The new album's title refers to an earlier planned release that never came out. In fall of 1976, the album Chrome Dreams was announced for a November release. However, that date came and went and no album ever appeared. ********************* NEIL YOUNG CHROME DREAMS CONTINENTAL TOUR BEGINS OCTOBER 18 New Album Chrome Dreams II Out October 16 September 10, 2007 (Burbank, CA) — Neil Young will begin a North American tour on October 18th in Boise, Idaho, two days after the release of his new extraordinary album Chrome Dreams II on Reprise Records. Concerts continue until December 13th in New York, including two nights at the historic Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada, the site of early legendary shows by the acclaimed singer-songwriter. Chrome Dreams II is a stunning collection of eight new and two classic Young songs. Recorded last summer in Northern California, musicians include Ben Keith (pedal steel guitar, dobro and other instruments), Ralph Molina (drums) and Rick Rosas (bass), who will all be performing in concert with Young. Pegi Young is opening artist on the tour. She released her debut album last summer on Vapor/Warner Bros. Records, followed by a series of sold out shows in Northern California and New York. On October 27th and 28th Young will host the 21st annual Bridge School Concerts in Mountain View, California, which also features appearances by Metallica, John Mayer, Tom Waits with the Kronos Quartet, the trio of Eddie Vedder, Flea and Jack Irons, and others. LIVE AT MASSEY HALL

NEIL YOUNG'S "LIVE AT MASSEY HALL" SET FOR RELEASE MARCH 13TH The 1971 Concert Is The Second Album in Performance Series January 17, 2007 - Burbank, CA – On January 19, 1971, Neil Young performed at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada. In many ways, this was a major homecoming event. He had left Canada in 1966, soon becoming a member of Buffalo Springfield in Los Angeles, then recording his self-titled debut solo album in 1968. That was followed by "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" with Crazy Horse, then Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Déjà vu" in 1970 and his best-selling album "After The Gold Rush." By the time Young came back to Canada for the Massey Hall concert, he had become one of the most exciting and successful singer-songwriters in rock. Neil Young was performing solo that evening in Toronto, playing many of his well-known songs like "Down by the River," "Ohio" and "I Am a Child." But he also included several new originals that would be featured on his next new album, "Harvest," which had not been released yet, like "Old Man," "The Needle and the Damage Done" and "Heart of Gold." The audience had not heard any of these before, and the night was an historic and moving performance for all. "This is the album that should have come out between "After The Gold Rush" and 'Harvest,'" Young says now. "David Briggs, my producer, was adamant that this should be the record, but I was very excited about the takes we got on "Harvest," and wanted "Harvest" out. David disagreed. As I listen to this today, I can see why." Live At Massey Hall, produced by Young and the late David Briggs, is the second Reprise Records release in the Neil Young Archives Performance Series, following last year's "Live At The Fillmore East" album. Both are in anticipation of the "Archives Volume I" collection, due this fall. That 8-CD, 2-DVD audiobiography will include Young's music from 1963 to 1972, and feature a treasure trove of previously unreleased recordings, both studio and live, along with concert footage and rare memorabilia from the first decade of Neil Young's long and unequaled career. www.neilyoung.com
Neil Young 1970 and 1971 were landmark years in the career of Neil Young. From touring to recording, and back again, this creative period was one of the most productive and varied. The year started on tour with Crazy Horse. This run of shows would years later yield Neil Young & Crazy Horse Live At The Fillmore East (Disc 2 of the Archives Performance Series). That tour was followed by the recording of After The Gold Rush. At this same time the CSNY album, Déjà Vu hit the streets to rave reviews. Then in early May, his strong reaction to a photo of the Kent State Massacre on the cover of Time magazine prompted Neil to write, record and release the song, "Ohio" as a 45 rpm single with CSNY. No sooner than "Ohio" hit the record shops and airways did CSNY embark on a highly successful summer tour from which would come the live album, 4 Way Street. In the Fall, the release of After The Gold Rush became a commercial success with such songs as "Only Love Can Break Your Heart", "When You Dance", and "Southern Man". After the Gold Rush made it to the charts, solidifying Neil's place as a relevant singer-songwriter for the generation. He then embarked on a solo tour, accompanied by just his guitar and piano. Forever in motion, Neil only stopped when an incapacitating back problem brought him to a Los Angeles hospital. Shortly thereafter, he was back on the road wearing a back-brace and writing new songs. Neil began working these and other new unreleased songs into his set list, including "The Needle And The Damage Done", "Heart of Gold", "A Man needs a Maid", "There's a World", "Love in Mind", "Bad Fog of Loneliness", "Journey Through the Past", "See the Sky About to Rain" and "Old Man". This new group of songs was perhaps best captured on tape January19, 1971 at Toronto's Massey Hall. During this time Neil was planning to release a double live album , but the events of the upcoming weeks shelved those plans. While on a trip to Nashville in early February for a taping of the televison show, Johnny Cash On Campus, Neil gathered a group of studio musicians to record some of the new songs. From these tapes would come the first tracks for the Harvest album. Later that month, Young traveled to England to perform in London. While there another session was booked, this time with the London Symphony Orchestra backing up Neil on grand piano. The result? Two more songs that ended up on Harvest, "A Man Needs a Maid" and "There's World". Neil was so intent to release the recordings he had completed in Nashville and London that he never listened to the recording from Massey Hall. His producer, David Briggs pleaded with him to release the Massey Hall concert recordings instead of the studio version of Harvest, but Young held his ground. In a short period of time the idea of the double live album became a distant memory. It was 27 years later that Neil heard the recordings for the first time and created a place for them as part of his Archives Release. Today you can hear this Toronto concert from 1971 in this package and learn more about this period in the "More" section of the DVD.
