The Grindhouse Film Festival returns to LA's New Beverly Cinema this Tuesday, August 26th, with two more mindblowing films from the glory days of the grindhouses and drive-ins. For this special event we'll be screening rare 35mm prints of DOCTOR BUTCHER M.D. (1980) and RAW FORCE (1982) for a totally crazed zombies and cannibals double-feature.
DOCTOR BUTCHER M.D., also known as ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST, is one of the most notorious films from the heyday of the Deuce. You've got Ian McCulloch as your Anglo hero, zombies AND cannibals, blood, guts, goofy dialogue, naked Italian women, and an over-the-top performance from Donald O'Brien as the mad doctor performing nutty experiments on the local native population. We'll be screening the American DOCTOR BUTCHER M.D. version with the extra footage slapped on the beginning by the original US distributor, for a nice flashback to the glory days of the grindhouse.
Following this will be the equally insane RAW FORCE {aka KUNG FU CANNIBALS}. This one's got genre faves Cameron Mitchell, Jillian Kesner, Jewel Shepard, Camille Keaton and Vic Diaz in a crazy story that mixes cannibal monks, kung fu, zombies, tons of gratuitous nudity, some gore, a Hitler lookalike, a few piranhas, and the Burbank Karate Club!
The event starts at 7:30pm, and admission for the two features plus a reel of rare exploitation trailers and our world-famous free raffle is still only $8.00.

HER TASTE OF FREEDOM (1973) This rarity from the very early days of American porn features is a complete mystery to us but is definitely one that's worth catching. Also known as HER FIRST TASTE OF FREEDOM, this is a very well shot and acted film from San Francisco that's a combo of hot hardcore sex and indie art film. We're still trying to figure out the story behind this one, which clearly had some legit talent involved. Join us in figuring out the mystery and watching this rare 35mm print unspool with a hot 'n horny audience!
LITTLE DARLIN'S (1981) Directed by Jim Clark Starring Lysa Thatcher, Lori Palmer, Crissi Dalton, Kathy Harcourt, Juliet Jay, Suzzanna Ash, Cynthia Davenport, Jerry Butler, R. Bolla, Jake Teague and Mac Josephs.
Not to be confused with the Kristy MacNichol/Tatum O'Neal LITTLE DARLINGS being screened later this month as part of Phil Blankenship's New Beverly Midnights series, this is a feature from DEBBIE DOES DALLAS director Jim Clark from the very early 80's period when film was still king and the golden age of adult cinema was still in full swing. There are some classic performers in this one, including CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST star R. Bolla!

It seems to silly and wrong for me to be posting blogs and bulletins about screenings after all that has happened but I can't allow myself to be depressed, crying and dwelling 24/7. I guess it will be awhile before I don't feel guilty about wanting to have fun.
I may be at the screening. I am waiting to see if I got me a ride. I will try to plaster a fake smile as not to make people depressed also. Oh what am I talking about. I don't go around smiling anyway. ha

The Grindhouse Film Festival returns to LA's New Beverly Cinema on Tuesday, August 12th, with a tribute to legendary Florida indie-filmmaker WIlliam Grefe. We'll be screening very rare 35mm prints of his films STANLEY and IMPULSE, and Grefe will be flying in from Florida to introduce the films and do a Q&A with the audience. One of the greatest American regional filmmakers, Grefe has directed such films as STING OF DEATH, THE HOOKED GENERATION, DEATH CURSE OF TARTU, THE WILD REBELS, THE NAKED ZOO, MAKO: JAWS OF DEATH and THE GODMOTHERS. As an added bonus, we'll also have STANLEY screenwriter Gary Crutcher joining Grefe for the Q&A, and we're working on getting a very special guest from the film IMPULSE (schedule permitting).
STANLEY is an incredibly entertaining film featuring Seminole Indian (and Vietnam Vet) Chris Robinson and his rattlesnake pal taking on Alex Rocco and a bunch of snake hatin' lowlifes. If you saw WILLARD and wished the film had snakes instead of rats and was set in the sweaty swamps of Florida, then this is the film for you! Watch for a DVD special edition of STANLEY coming from BCI this Fall.
We follow this with Grefe's film IMPULSE (aka WANT A RIDE LITTLE GIRL? aka I LOVE TO KILL), starring William Shatner in one of his greatest over-the-top 1970's roles as killer conman and gigolo Matt Stone. This mindblowingly great film, also starring Ruth Roman, Jennifer Bishop and Harold "Oddjob" Sakata, is one of my all-time faves and should not be missed in this incredibly rare screening. I first caught this on late night NYC TV decades ago after returning home from a drunken night out, and woke up the next morning wondering what the hell I had watched the night before. Trust me when I say that out of all the obscure exploitation films we're showing this year, this is the one that absolutely should not be missed. While not yet confirmed, we are also working on getting a very special (but also very busy) guest down to help Grefe introduce the film.

Don't miss our next mind-boggling Grindhouse Film Festival event this Tuesday, June 10th, at the New Beverly Cinema. We'll be welcoming the summer beach season with two films that feature people getting ripped apart in the water! First up is CROCODILE, an amazing and incredibly entertaining Thai film from 1981. If you've been enjoying the recent batch of horror films from Thailand but always wanted to see one featuring villagers being chomped on by a giant crocodile, this early example of Thai exploitation filmmaking is the one for you. Following this will be the 1977 killer shark film TINTORERA from Mexican director Rene Cardona (GUYANA: CULT OF THE DAMNED) and starring Susan George (STRAW DOGS), Hugo Stiglitz (NIGHTMARE CITY), Fiona Lewis and Jennifer Ashley. A sleazy mix of a softcore sex film with a killer shark film, this one has something for everyone and is perfect for anyone who thought JAWS was pretty good but would have been truly great if it had a bunch of nudity added.

Check out our next Grindhouse Film Festival event at the New Beverly Cinema this Tuesday. We'll have two incredibly entertaining films that haven't been screened in LA in decades, along with special guests.
First up is CHEERLEADERS' WILD WEEKEND (1979), also known as THE GREAT AMERICAN GIRL ROBBERY and starring Kristine DeBell (Alice in Wonderland, Meatballs), Jason Williams (Flesh Gordon), Lenka Novak (Vampire Hookers), Marilyn Joi (Nurse Sherri, Ilsa - Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks) and the great Leon Isaac Kennedy (Penitentiary). The IMDB keywords for this film should be enough to convince you to check it out: 1970's, Masturbation, Nude Cheerleaders, Female Nudity, and Bus. Who can resist subject matter like that! Nude cheerleaders AND a bus! Pure exploitation heaven.
Our second film, ESCAPE FROM WOMEN'S PRISON (1978), is a typically over-the-top sleazefest from Italy and stars such exploitation faves as Lilli Carati (To Be Twenty), Zora Kerova (Cannibal Ferox) and Dirce Funari (Porno Holocaust). This one has even better IMDB keywords: Lesbianism, Non-Statutory Female On Male Rape, Prostitute, Sex, and Beautiful Woman.
