A Ridiculous Video Announcing What You Already Know

Dearest Peeps-

In my last post, I bloggishly announced that the movie will be enjoying its West Coast Premiere at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle at the Washington State Convention Center at 4pm on Saturday August 30th. And while its still true that the film is going to be having its West Coast Premiere at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle at the Washington State Convention Center at 4pm on Saturday August 30th , I think that a short form web-based video brought to you directly from Team Nerdcore Rising is a better way to announce that the film will have its West Coast Premiere at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle at the Washington State Convention Center at 4pm on Saturday August 30th . So, please watch this video as it will clearly and entertainingly (she says with her fingers crossed) explain how the movie will have its West Coast Premiere at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle at the Washington State Convention Center at 4pm on Saturday August 30th .

Also, one of the main network television shows – can't say which – will be at PAX to see what this "Nerdcore Rising" thing is all about. So, laugh and watch extra hard because we want to convince (or fool?) the three-lettered network channel about our awesomeness.

In other news, the movie will be opening for a regular ol' theatrical run at the Hoff Theater in College Park, MD. This means, that if you call the moviephone number for that area, the dude that answers will list Nerdcore Rising, and its screening times, in his ridiculous signature voice. But of course, you wouldn't do that if you were reading this blog… because you'd be online… and because it's the year 2008. In which case, you'd want to know that the movie will open on Friday Sept. 5th and the details can be found on their website:

The Hoff Theater

Very soon the inimitable Mr. Dan Johnston (our all-knowing web czar) will be designing a beautiful page that aggregates all of our screenings on an easy-to-use grid. This will be great because, folks, fall is going to be an intense season for Nerdcore Rising!

For those that will be at PAX – don't forget to relish in the works of MC Frontalot, G Minor 7, Blak Lotus, and the Categorical Imperative as they plan on destroying the PAX crowd with some seriously catchy Nerdcore hip hop. And, please heed the message at the end of the video… or else. (Do you like how I did that? How motivated are you to see the video now, huh?)

Love,
negin

A Large Announcement from Nerdcore Rising

Dearest folks,

For months you've been speculating on whether Nerdcore Rising would screen at PAX. * Your speculation has been digested, dissected, deflected, and d-something'ed else. Truth is, at first I wasn't sure if we were gonna screen there; then I was sure; then I didn't know how to announce it; then I got rapped up in season 4 of Lost; then I got into a serious internal debate on whether citing  The Goonies nostalgia was an acceptable justification for DVRing The Two Coreys; then I realized I still hadn't announced it.

So, without further syntactical ado, it is my pleasure to announce that we will, in fact, be screening the movie at the 2008 Penny Arcade Expo! If you're anywhere near Seattle on Saturday August 30th you should be at PAX. And, at 4pm, you should dutifully find a cozy seat in the Main Hall of the Convention Center, wait for the lights to go down, and watch as the movie blazes across a gigantically large screen. Me, MC Frontalot, GMinor 7, and Blak Lotus will all be there for any post-screening merriment that might ensue like hugs and/or wookiee calls.

Chew on these screening details:
Saturday August 30
4pm - Main Hall
Washington State Convention Center
Seattle, WA

I have a few more blogs in me till PAX with more details, more videos, and more totally unnecessary footnotes.***** I want to see you in Seattle!

Love,

negin & gang at Nerdcore Rising

*For those of you who don't know what PAX is, it's the Penny Arcade Expo.**
**For those of you who don't know what Penny Arcade is, it's the OG of web comics.***
***For those of you who don't know what OG is, it means 'original gangster.'****
****For those of you who don't understand what original gangster has to do with web comics, you clearly haven't read the Penny Arcade.**

*****Like the four above.

OurStage & New Nerd of the Week!
Category: Music

People!

It's been a couple of weeks since I've posted, officially making me a bad blogger! God awful! First rate crap! Downright ghastly! There's no excuse for such willful tardiness but if I had to make one, I'd tell you about the evil assault my nose made on my face! It was a violent allergy episode that lasted days, depleted my oxygen sources, and threatened the very power base that keeps this ship-of-negin-state in operation. Thankfully, after mounting a nasal steroid offensive, allergens became the vanquished and I became the glorious victor.

And, what did I do with my victory? Wrapped up the latest episode of the wildly ill-titled series, "Nerd of the Week"! This "week's" episode is on the Chiptunes Nerd. The Chiptunes nerd is known for 8bit melodies, provided by precision crafted instruments like the Gameboy, or its elder, the Commodore 64. Chiptunes music will not only make you dance and sway but it will take you back to those warm and fuzzy days when you scored on the Atari or had wet dreams about Ms Pac-Man. First, watch this episode, then, go rip apart your Nintendo and become a maestro of the chiptunes!

The episode will remind you to click on the OurStage link above and become a member. Why would we want for you to do this? Because for every new member that comes through us, Nerdcore Rising gets ONE DOLLAR. You just have to give them your email address, create a password, and verify your membership through the email they send you. Do they send annoying emails all the time? NO! Do they provide a great source for new music? YES! Would your faithful nerdy filmmaker love you forever? ABSOLUTELY!

Please, thank you, you're awesome,

negin & the team @ NR:TM

PS: Special thanks to the people at deadCENTER Film Festival who gave us the first ever experience as a closing night film, in the open air no less. Also, Oklahoma City folks are super friendly – the kind of friendly where strangers help you out and give you rides and accurate directions. Who could ask for more? I for one, will never ask for more!

PPS: You've seen MC Frontalot on G4 haven't you? He's done a little spot for them, DVR your face off and hopefully you'll catch it!

PPPS: Extra thanks to Two Player Productions for lending a few seconds of footage to make our episode extra chiptunes-y, they are afterall, the docu-masters of the genre. Peruse their website to confirm.

Stuffing the Ballot Box with Nerdy Goodness

Hey Folks!
Like Hillary and Barak before us, we here at "Nerdcore Rising" find ourselves in the midst of a fierce primary struggle. As you might already know from Wolf Blitzer's "We Report, You Decide" coverage on CNN, "Nerdcore Rising" is running for President of the From Here to Awesome Discovery & Distribution Festival!

What do we win if we win? That's a good question. We would win different types of distribution deals on multiple platforms, screenings in various cities around the country, free marketing/promotion from fancy big name outlets, and we would win the right to preside as President Pro tempore over the US Senate. Basically, winning would be really really terribly awesome and it would make it more likely for the movie to come to a theatre near you. Like actually near you.

But we need your help. The schtick behind "From Here to Awesome" is that audiences actually help curate the festival. i.e. we report (what films are in the running) and you decide (what films make it to the top ten). FHTA has created an elaborate algorithm that involves, your "awesome vote" on the FHTA website, our youtube hit stats, our youtube subscriber stats, our myspace subscriber stats, our Twitter follow stats, the number of comments our videos get, and the square root of Avogadro's Number.

What do we want from you?
*Please watch this vid before June 6:
http://fromheretoawesome.com/nerdcorerising/

If you're feeling extra frisky/democratic:
*Please register to FHTA so you can vote "awesome" on the button below our vid (before June 6): http://fromheretoawesome.com/wp-signup.php

If you're feeling ridiculously civic and super electoral:
*Please subscribe to our youtube channel, our myspace blog, our twitter account, our facebook group, and comment your face off wherever you can (before June 6):
http:// www.youtube.com/vaguelyqualified (Our youtube channel)
http://www.myspace.com/nerdcorerisingthemovie
https://twitter.com/nerdcorerising
http://www.nerdcorerising.com (to subscribe to RSS or randomly comment wherever you want!)
http://www.facebook.com (Nerdcore Rising Group)

If our fanbase proves to be more hardcore than the other fanbases - and I believe you are! - then we get into the Top Ten and become an official selection of FROM HERE TO AWESOME. The result will be: more screenings, more distribution, and utopia.

Please help!!!!

Love & Vote-Begging,
Negin & Team Nerdcore Rising: The Movie

PS: If you're really feeling like going the extra mile, please follow this link to OurStage and sign up - for every new member that signs up to OurStage through this link, Nerdcore Rising gets $1 - which in the world of oh-so-broke-credit-card-debt-laden-negin, is a painfully necessary thing. Plus, OurStage is awesome, its really trying to give independent musicians a designated platform to reach audiences and its giving audiences a chance to bypass record execs, radio playlists, and critics in deciding what tunes are worth listening to.

Nerdcore Rising will Premiere at SXSW!

Hey folks!

Today is a good day. It's a particularly good day because the Film Powers – those nebulous forces that have given us War Games, X-Men and Teen Wolf TOO (somehow all in the same breath) – have granted us a completely awesome place in the film world. That's right folks, it's been a while but finally, finally, finally Nerdcore Rising will be premiering at that venerable Texan institution, the SXSW Film Festival! People like Martin Scorsese, Charlize Theron and Sam Rockwell will also be there but they'll be a little less DS-dependant and a lot more glammed-up than your average nerdcore-ite. Either way, the celeb-name-dropping just goes to show that SXSW ain't your grandmother's film festival.

We are full of glee and in a hot nanosecond from now,* we'll be providing you with all sorts of information about the premiere. Stuff like: Where? When? How? No, Seriously HOW… did you get in?? But until then, we're just going to take a moment to thank the nerdbase: a nexus of MC Frontalot fans, indie film geeks, and generally interested nerdcore peeps. So, here's that moment: THANK YOU. We couldn't do it without you. As we always say: the nerdbase is good above all things.

And, here's some broken record business: please encourage your friends to request a screening of the film in their town – especially if their town is in that part of central Texas which is less panhandle and more hill country and rhymes with Schmaustin.

Here are some links to articles that verify the accuracy of the claims made in this blog:

Thrilled & Hearting the Nerdbase,

Negin et al @ Nerdcore Rising the movie!

*In this instance "nanosecond" is being loosely defined as "moment, hour, or half day"
