THE FOOL’S GUIDE TO SCIENTOLOGY
Current mood: awake
Category: Religion and Philosophy

Scientology:  The Idea that an intergalactic being (like Jabba) decided to call in a "debt" and the earth was his target.  We couldn't pay the debt of the universe, so Jabba sent "Phaetons"-aka, little invisible guys that latch onto you like the mini Goombas from Super Mario 3- to hold you down mentally, not by inhibiting you to jump high.  SO!  The "church" of scientology takes you in and does a "stress test" so see how many of the little Goombas are on you.... and THEN (this is the best part) you spend time (as much as you can afford since it's not cheap) touching two "cans" that send electricity through your body- and you feel better because the Goombas are going away!!!     The Reality?  When you get shocked, your body releases endorphons that you become addicted to- hmmm.... so you get addicted to Scientology until you lose all your money!!!!!  Oh yeah... and you're supposed to help people too... thanks, Tom.....

Music for music's sake: the perfect band....
Current mood: savage
Category: Music

You can tell a lot about a person by the music they like.

My top 6 influences are (in no order): Metallica*, Pearl Jam*, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Offspring*, and cKy. (*=Earlier/mid career)  Other STRONG influences include (in no order):  The International Playboys, Bad Religion, Green Day*, STP, Beck, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stoned Age, Soundgarden, Weezer, Clutch, Def Leppard, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Face to Face, Alice in Chains, Sublime, Silverchair, Sunny Day Real Estate, Bob Dylan, The Cure, Tenacious D, Pixies, H-I-M, Korn*, Radiohead, Van Halen... kinda random, huh?

I have been in 4 real bands that have performed anywhere from a High school Gym in Montana to the Whiskey and Rainbow Room.  I have FUN on stage; my right middle fingernail is shorter from having that fucking G-String slice underneath, as I tore off my guitar strings.  I like to dive into drum sets; one of my favorite images is from the Bleach LP where Curt is just laid out on top of their drums.  I love it.  Show-goers seem to dig it too.

I was in 2 bands for the last 2 years- until recently, which I left to start writing on my own.  I was lead guitar for RockPaperScissors, and I was Guitarist/Singer for Smith and Chapin.  Both of which I loved playing with, but never felt 100% like it was THE band.  You've just gotta trust your instincts on that stuff, so here I am, on my own, trying to come up with world altering songs.

My IDEAL band would be comprised of Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Keyboard.  Simple, yet more than the typical 3 piece punk setup.  The sound? (pauses for 10 minutes staring at the screen)  Fuck.  Something original.  Hard-rock and driving, melodic and soft, harmonic, complex rhythms at times, 4/4 on others, screams but NOT scrEMO or nUmetal.  Basically something that sounds LIKE my top 6, but unlike them all.  A group of guys who go to practice, fire up a bowl, and fucking jam until something sounds good... and then make it great.

I am NOT the type-A overdriven-came-to-LA-to-become-a-rock-star.  I am MAJORLY type-B; I came here for the excitement, I'm moving back to Montana to play/showcase music and affect people's lives like they did for me through music.  We as musicians have an opportunity to impact someone's life more than we can EVER comprehend (unless you remember EVERY detail of ages 14-22).  I want to do that.  I want to make music that someone want to... go 30mph faster on the freeway... or... contemplate suicide to... I want to be someone's top 6 influence- if it's 1 person or 1 Million.  I would be HONORED to play and have other musicians I hold in esteemed say," Wow.  That was amazing."

So...... you get a little idea of where I sit with all this shit.  I want to make a rock band and have fun making music that helps people deal with the shit, the magnificence, the obscenity, the unfairness, the sorrow, the anticipation, and/or the irony of life.  Do you feel the same way?  Does this rambling sound unrealistic and pompous, or is this what you have been waiting for?
