Mr. Klevin
Current mood: sad
Today I got a call from Garin Casaleggio. I rarely receive a call from Garin and I was pleasantly surprised. He was calling to let me know that we had lost a dear friend, Erik Klevin, yesterday afternoon. I am glad it was Garin who called.
An amazing musician, and an amazing human being, there is no way to explain how those words can actually fall short of describing Erik.
What I really want to share is, being a bassist myself, I was only able to experience playing music with him on one occasion.
It was one of the few moments in my life that, after sight-reading his 1/4 sheet pink paper chord charts written in pencil, on a very dark stage, I actually left a show feeling like I could do anything.
I was, however, given the honor to play his parts, more often.
Thank you, Anton Barbeau. Thank you, David Houston.
But what is most important to me, is being honored to have been inspired by him, from him, with one of the pinnacle things in my life. Not only has he given me chapters of advice, he has actually picked me up, brushed me off, and thrown me back out on stage.
I am sad, and I am fortunate to have been so inspired.
