Can You Change The Dream?
Category: Writing and Poetry
A crazy house of mirrors Everything is like something else Nothing is like itself Too many metaphors
Like too much fertilizer killed my grass
Like all my machines are breaking down, car, wristwatch, Xbox, dishwasher, air conditioner
Like termites coming out of the floor
Like piano is out of tune
Like the engineer was texting and ran the light and wrecked the train and killed a lot of people a lot of innocent people
like I planted my pumpkins too late and the fruit withered on the vine
like fiddling while Rome burns
like the sun came up again this morning (perfect record)
like the birds are busy at dawn, noisy, chirping, flying
like I hear the roar of traffic
like the early air is cool
like the big jet plane flying above, heading east
like when you lose it all you are finally free

Imagine...
Category: News and Politics
Imagine an economy with no debt.....
how would it work?
right now money is debt
money would be gold or silver or something real
it might be a better world....no debt
save up for what you need
don't borrow, don't pay interest just save
you could already be living in a world with no debt
IMAGINE

Two Birthdays
Category: Writing and Poetry
Laura was out walking the dog this morning and meeting up with the neighbors.
Kevin was getting ready for the 21st birthday party of his son, which would be at his house this afternoon. He invited Laura, but she said we were having a little party for her father who is 88 years old today. Then she met up with Terry who told Laura about the recent death of his sister-in -law in Florida from brain cancer. She was only 29 years old and left a 6 year old daughter along with her husband.
Laura and I and the kids drove over to take gifts and cake to Grandpa Ray. He was very happy and so was his wife Betty who is also 88 years old. Jeff and Homa showed up. They also live with grief. They lost a daughter at age 27.
How hard life is for the living. Hard to grow old. Hard to be young. Hard to lose loved ones.
And for the dead we know only a mystery. Where are they? Are they just gone or do their spirits live on?
Later I jogged through the neighborhood. I passed our local saxohone player. He was dressed in a tux getting into his car.
I called out to him, "Got a gig?" He smiled and said yes. I told him to have a good time. He looked happy.
Then I passed a woman pushing a stroller with a very young baby. That made me smile. I remembered seeing the same woman when she was very pregnant.
The sun is setting now. Laura is preparing dinner. No plans for the evening. I'm sure the sun will rise again on a new day. I live with hope. I live with faith. I live with love. To be alive is to be happy.

When Were Things Better?
Category: Life
I am always hearing how things are getting worse in the USA for the middle class and just about everybody except the rich.
And things have been getting worse for a long time. Incomes are declining etc.
So my question is....when were things the best? When was the peak of goodness which we have fallen from?
When was the Golden Age for the American Middle Class?
Was it 1950?
1960?
I remember those giant cars with big fins. Those were the days. No birth control pills though....and no internet....no cable TV....no computers, cell phones, commercial jets,
so when was the GOLDEN AGE?
when was the peak of prosperity?
just asking...

The Land Game
Category: Life
People have been encouraged to play the land game. It is a game leading to trouble when played too hard.
I'm talking about leverage. You buy real estate and borrow as much as you can and then when the asset goes up you make an incredible return on you money.
However, if the asset goes down you can lose everything.
And if you always stay fully leveraged you will always end up going broke because things always go down sometimes.
My parents taught me that you should take chances when you are young. If you go broke you can always start over. But as you get older you need to pay down your debts and finally get out of debt.
Furthermore, they told me that 50% was a good ratio of debt to equity. So if you own some property worth a million dollars you should not have more than half a million of debt on that property.
Back to the point.
We are encouraged to go into debt and stay in as much debt as possible. People trade up their house. They build equity and then get a more expensive house. But if you continue to do this you will always get in trouble.
Margin calls in the stock market are the starkest example. You buy stock and borrow from the broker to the max. If the stock goes down even a little you get a margin call. That means you either sell the stock or deposit some cash in your account. If you don't have the cash you must sell the stock. If the stock goes down very much you will have lost a lot of your original money.
So, be careful. Don't take on too much debt. Go slow. And be optimistic. Because things are actually getting better.

anger
Category: Writing and Poetry
woke up this morning all those old wounds were hurting why did she cheat on me? why did she leave me?
I sure am better off without her but it still hurts like the once burned twice shy it makes it hard to trust
take a deep breath and sigh take out the cloth and try to rub off the rust
I think I know the right way out Forgive All over the world every heart could do a little more forgiving
Today I will work on it

Silver Linings

Coins have two sides Change is life No change is death
expensive gasoline means less driving means fewer accidents means fewer deaths and injuries means lower price of auto insurance
expensive gasoline means less travel means less expense for hotel rooms means less stress means better health

Stimulus Arrives
Category: Writing and Poetry
Have you ever been in jail? My wife picked up the mail
the gubment check finally came somehow I was not happy....
I think I was happier waiting for it...
now I can take it to the bank and it will disappear into the void of obligations and responsibilities
I keep thinking we would all be better off If we learned to live with less
I know the guy who makes $500,000 a year is really upset if his income drops to $400,000
in fact he is really upset if his income just stays at $500,000
so money is a relative thing
and the way to avoid bankruptcy is to avoid debt
I remember that kids often have more fun playing with the box than they have playing with the toy
boxes are pretty cheap
in conclusion I am thankful for what I have and life is good
