Folks in Virginia Beach, Virginia are coming out of their shells for a crabby weekend. The 6th Annual Mid-Atlantic Hermit Crab challenge is an eccentric event that races into town this Saturday (July 14), pitting roughly 400 crabby crustacean contestants in heats to beat their clawed competitors down an eight-foot racetrack. And while the star athletes may be crabby, there are specific rules set to ensure a good, clean, hard-fought crab battle. As event director Mike Hilton puts it, "Owners aren't allowed to pound [on the racetrack], but they can scream and yell all they want." Instead, race officials spray reluctant racers with water bottles to keep the competition cool and cruising. And even though race organizers shell out a medal to every hearty hermit, some proud crab owners take it a pinch futher by dressing up their eight-legged sprinters in costumes or painting their shells.

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) just a few weeks away, gamers and industry types alike, are anxiously awaiting news of the newest titles and announcements that's sure to drive this billion dollar industry in the coming years. In past years, upwards of 60,000 people have attended each year. However, this year's show will be invitation-only, meaning that this number will be reduced down to 5,000.

Oral health is as important as proper diet and exercise in achieving good health
WHAT: Research has shown that there is a connection between oral health and health. For Baby Boomers this means maintaining proper care of their natural teeth since one of the biggest detriments to oral health - and potentially overall health - is tooth loss. If a tooth becomes infected and is not treated with root canal treatment, it typically must be extracted.
WHY: Untreated infected teeth can lead to other oral complications, including gum disease. Several studies have demonstrated that gum, or periodontal, disease can lead to a variety of health complications, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. A root canal procedure removes the infected tissue inside the tooth and helps to reduce the risk of periodontal disease.
An additional study from the January 2007 Journal of the National Cancer Institute showed an increased risk of pancreatic cancer in individuals who had experienced tooth loss.

Robert Barrows is the creator of the "Video EnhancedGravemarker," a video screen that can be embedded into
graveyard headstones, turning tombstones into makeshift movie theaters. Barrows got the idea from his experience with television
commercials as well his side gig as a sculptor, and argues
it'll make the cemetery a "fascinating place to visit." His long term plan is to have people record video obituaries prior to their death, which relatives and loved ones will be able to view at -- and on -- the grave. He says, "The videos can let the deceased make amends by saying the things they never could when they were alive." But there's more to this plot. Barrows says the videos can be shown immediately, or held until the spouse dies, "just in case you were having an affair with the next door neighbor."
