Gettin all introspective to Shiloh.....
Current mood: optimistic
Category: Life

So right now I'm listening to Shiloh's album,  "Bleed."  It's  a super work if you've never heard it.  I don't say that just because they're friends of mine either.  It's really an awesome album.

Anyway,  the track currently playing is "Fall Reprise."  This track speaks to me on soooooo many levels.  It has a very simple vocal in it.  All it says is "Show me the way to go."

I think this is the implied question we all go through life trying to answer.....Show me the way to go.

Lately,  I've had a bunch of crap happen.  Those of you who know me well know what's going on,  or rather,  what went on.  To make a long story short,  my Grandfather died,  and it was a bit rough.  Top that on the other events of the last 4 years,  and you've got recipe for meltdown.  Honestly,  I've felt as if I'm adrift on a sea of confusion.  It's like I'm being tossed around with no hopes of stability in sight.  Everytime I think things are going to settle in,  something happens.

Many times lately,  I've asked God to show me the way to go.  Unfortunately,  God doesn't deal in roadmaps,  emails,  and GPS units for direction.  Instead,  he forces you to develop your inner sense of direction.  Things have been taken away from me so I'd rely more on myself.  God said to me "Kevin,  I'm going to show you the way to go,  but first you're going to have to prepare for the journey."

Life is not easy,  people.  If it were,  it would be boring.  You can't appreciate the view from the mountain untill you've been at the bottom of the valley.  I've been forced to work through some very tough circumstances so I'd learn to be self reliant and do what I needed to do to get by.  I've been at a point in the past year where I was trying to scrape together enough change to go buy a pack of Ramen.  I always prayed to God that he would take care of me,  and that I was turning all my problems over to Him.  Once I did that,  things started looking up.

Do you know how hard it is for me to completely turn over control to anyone,  much less a higher being that I can feel but not see?  It wasn't easy.  I've always believed in God,  but I don't think it's been until about the past two years that I've been able to APPRECIATE God.  I realize that I am NOTHING without God,  and everything I have;  everything I am,  is because of His grace,  and not my work.

I haven't been the best example in the past,  but I'm working hard to correct those issues.  It's not easy,  because I'm only human.  We weren't created to be perfect.  There's a few things in my past that I'm not proud of.  However,  as far as I'm concerned,  they're all in the past,  and I'm happy to leave them be.  I thank God for forgiving me of my sins,  and pray that he help me be the person I should.

Ironically enough,  the Shiloh track playing as I write this portion is "IMOK."  Ya know what?  I AM okay.  Sometimes people think I'm sad or angry,  but I'm not.  I've just never really been one to open up to people.  Just know that I'm very thankful for all of you,  and I'm here to help you all that I can.

I think I'm getting closer to answering my "Show Me The Way To Go" issue.  I believe I'm on the right track now.  I pray that you find your way as well.  If you'd like someone to be with you on your life journeyt,  please consider me more than happy to help.  I can't show you the way,  but I can help you get going in the right direction at least.

Dedicated to a special few people
Current mood: contemplative

I was just listening to this.  It's "Alone Tonight" by Above & Beyond....Sometimes I have a hard time telling people exactly what I'm thinking,  so I'd like you to read these lyrics.  This applies to a few people in my life,  and I'm pretty sure you know who you are....

I've wrestled with angels all my life
Its always the haloes and the wings that keep you blind
And if I'd fought with all the strength I held inside
I wouldn't be out here
Alone tonight

Thanks to all my angels out there.  You people know who you are...

White and Nerdy...Things I'm guilty of...

So I was listening to "white and Nerdy" by Weird Al....I got to thinkin,  and there are a few things in that track that I'm guilty of that I must confess to...

1.  I'm not a champion of D&D,  but I am quite skilled at Guild Wars and Final Fantasy XI

2.  I would rather have some Earl Grey than a 40.

3.  My rims are stationary indeed!

4.  No Steven Hawking,  but plenty of technical guides and encyclopedae.

5.  I do have people begging for my Top 8 spaces on Myspace.

6.  mayo IS good on sandwiches!

7.  I,  as well,  have no gat,  but I do own a soldering gun.

8.  I would probably pwnstar you in ping pong.

9.  I have shopped online for deals on writable media.

10.  I have,  in fact,  edited Wikipedia.

11.  Yeah,  I know Holy Grail too.

12.  And I do know what ROTFLOL is.  0h n03zzz!~!!!!111!!!!

13.  I've never spent a night with Bubble Wrap,  but I do like it!

14.  I was in A/V club

15.  And Chess Club

16.  And Choir...

17.  I know I prefer Picard over Kirk.

thanks for sharing this nerdtacular moment.

This One Goes Out to....
Current mood: thoughtful

So I was just looking over someone's Myspace page that REALLY REALLY bugs me because of some shitty things they've done behind my back but GUESS WHAT!!!  I KNOW!!!!  So anyway,  this got me to thinkin....

I'd like to dedicate the November 3 show to......
Everyone who has ever made fun of me
Everyone who asked why I should be playing somewhere back when I was struggling with some deeply personal issues...
Everyone who has ever gone to other cities and talked smack about me....Thanks for the free promotion!
Everyone who said they'd book me,  but never followed through.
Everyone that's ever tried to book me in the worst possible timeslot
Everyone who said I couldn't do it
Everyone who's said BTU is "cheesy"
Everyone who's called BTU "annoying cunts"
Myspace girls who won't accept a friend request or respond to a nice message because we actually DO have things in common.  Guess what...I'm not hitting on you,  so don't act like I am.  Don't think so highly of yourself.  There are still people out there that like conversation with interesting people...

But I'd also like to dedicate the show to....
Everyone who called me just to say hello
Everyone who's ever sent me a nice email or message.
Everyone who's really enjoyed the show
Everyone who was my friend when I really had problems
Everyone who ever reassured me that yes,  I could do it.
Everyone who ever kept me from selling all my music
Everyone who's ever believed in me.
Everyone who's ever given me a chance.
Everyone who's passed word along about the show
Everyone who doesn't believe the Birmingham scene is dead.

So....Decide which group you are in....And think about it.  Word gets around,  people..  For those of you who are negative,  please be at Club Red on November 3 and know that I don't take it personally.  In fact,  without you,  I would have never had the drive to take my game to the level I have.  Please tell me you are in the negative group...All will be forgiven,  and I'd like to personally thank you,  and maybe even start a friendship!

If you're in the positive group,  thanks for being there!  Without people like you,  I wouldn't have the strength I need to confront negativity.  I love you all very much!

Check it, yo.
Current mood: okay

Yeah,  so a few of you may know that I write music.  It's not very often that I write a vocal track,  but here's something I put together Sunday night.  Once I get everythign finished and mastered,  it'll go up on my artist page.  I call it,  "Understand."

I want you to know that I'm feeling fine
Since I got you off my mind
So don't come around at any time
I really don't need any of your kind
Cause I'm feelin like a bowl of Frosted Flakes
Yeah you know that I'm feelin great
So head on out before it's too late
I moved on what about you old mate?

I'm movin on and you should know
That some things just had to go
So think of other ways that you could show
That you don't understand the meaning of no

Some people bring drama and some bring love
Some people seem perfect as if sent from above
But are you one of those when push comes to shove
Are you a vulture or are you a dove
You've had your chance or did you get the news
That some day I'd finally have to choose
I couldn't sit and wait cause it was time for me to move
Someone else became the winner and you had to lose

Some things in life we don't comprehend
Sometimes we lose and sometimes we win
So when we do come to that page again
I need to know if you're out or in

And repeat chorus twice...

Now all I need is a decent vocalist that gets what I'm doin.  By the way,  this is about nobody in particular.  Or no situation in particular.  Actually,  the lyrics were inspired by the song "IMOK" by Shiloh.  I'd been screwin around with these lyrics for quite some time and finally laid em out on some music.

Maybe I'll become a cheesy pop producer for a while.

Random Emoetry.
Current mood: ecstatic

So I was in an Emo poetry faceoff with Brooks....Here's my entry....

I call it...Drifting into the abyss

As the darkness closes in

And I begin to think

About mans fall from love

My hope begins to sink

Away from light away from hope

Away from all I know

My torture and depression

Slowly begin to show

Happiness is but a myth

Created by some man

Not tormented by inner demons

As I know I am

Melancholy and depression

Wrap thickly around me

While I continue to fall

Into a dreary sea

A loathsome place of anger

Accompanied by strife

A place where love is dead

A place of bourgeois life

As I fall deeper and deeper

Darker into the place

I look into a broken mirror

Noting pain across my face

Is it from what I know

Or what Im to become

Does my life mean anything

In this place without a sun

I sit in the room with my thoughts

Focused on a knife

Do I live this torturous way

Or do I end my life

One way easy another hard

What am I to do

The great beyond becons me

So to you I bid adieu

I am now to move on

Onto another plane

Please do not weep for me

Your world will be the same

You do not really miss me

You wont even know Im gone

Nobody cares if I live or die

My demise should not take long

Now to the light of a single candle

I gently apply the blade

Life departs a journey begins

As this world starts to fade

I am leaving all behind

To go upon this trip

Into the great beyond

I sail upon a ship

A ship of shattered tattered dreams

And loathed mockery

I sail into the great unknown

On the blood red sea

I am gone now so its done

My existence is erased

Will you ever remember me

Or even recall my face?

Weekend wrapup

Wow!  What a weekend.  It felt good to be back on the shenanigans bandwagon after a week off.  Here's a short recap of what went on....

Jackyl & Hyde...Club Red,  Birmingham,  AL...Friday,  July 14
After assembling the troops at Rivendale,  Fitzpatrick,  Brooks and I boarded the ECho and headed off for Southside.  Upon parking and discovering that Harmony Network's van had been tagged (with the subsequent call to inform Karen.),  we walked down to the club.

First off,  nice job Club Red!  I know the DJ booth was moved over in front of VIP simply because Jackyl & Hyde had a Live PA setup,  but having the booth over there really created a nice atmosphere.  I didn't hear one set the entire night that I didn't enjoy.  Especially big love to Josh P and Lee J,  because that was some of the best House I've heard in a while (Excluding Shiloh at Cornerstone)  DJ Swamp....Crazy stuff!  Did a bit of stagediving.  Played such hits as "Smoke On The Water" and "Inna Gadda Navida" using needle drops.  Jackyl & Hyde are always amazing.  They truely are pioneers of the Live PA.  Hyde uses a vocoder to do all sorts of crazy vocals during the set.  Then Dieselboy came on,  and did a great job.  Looked to me like everyone had a good time.  Here's just a couple of pics...

The crew!  L to R,  mikey,  Rachel,  Me,  Brooks

Me with a couple of longtime friends,  Tara and Brittney

Jackyl & Hyde at work

BTU @ Rivendale......Birmingham,  AL  July 15
Another episode in the BTU Weekends Live at Rivendale series.  We had barely recouped from the night before it was time to do it all over again.  Powered by Brooks' hot dogs,  we managed to gather enough energy to go again.  I have to say that the music at this BTU party was probably the BEST EVER!!!  OMG!!  Corey Harris started out and kicked 100% ass.  Then Fitzpatrick and I did a tag set that was cool.  Zion's gate came on next and continued the kicking with some serious psytrance.  Matt Phillips closed out the official party lineup by banging out some killer house.  Looked like the night went over pretty well.  We were pleased with the turnout.  Look for the next Rivendsale party next month.  As for now,  here's a few pics from that night.   Of course,  there are more in the forums at www.btulive.com

3.  Why do I end so many sentences with the word "Though"?

4.  Kev's crazy electronic rave website of the week:  www.shilohmusic.ca

Festival Week In Review

So here we are....Removed from the Great Rave Adventure 2006.  I've had a couple of days to get my wits back (to little success),  so I thought I'd share my experiences now.  I think if I had to sum up my week in six words,  I'd say "Giant Robots,  Brain Grenades,  Roman Candles."

Friday,  June 30.....
Patrick,  Will and I leave the comforts of our Home Point at Rivendale,  board the chocobo named Zephaniah,  and depart for adventures untold.  After gassing up at a local merchant's shop,  we start our Interstate Traveling northward through Tennessee and Kentucky.  After stopping for ice near one of the most beautiful places on Earth,  Land Between The Lakes Kentucky,  we continue onward through Paducah to the lovely metropolis of......um....Metropolis,  IL.  There,  we gazed upon the Giant Superman statue, and I lost $20 playing Roulette at the Harrah's casino (after being up $40.)  We then venture further into Illinois,  into the Shawnee National Forest,  eventually reaching our destination of the  Shawnee  Saltpetre  Cave,  site of Underground  Sound 2--Return To The Freak.  After establishing Camp Buttertub (as it became known) and removing many ticks,  we settled in for the night's performances by Tom Foolery,  Unkle Ryan,  Gein,  Child Of The Beat,  SwitchFocus,  and Infected Mushroom.  Much love to SwitchFocus for extending a live PA much longer than they really should have due to Infected being held up.  Also,  ending with "Jump In The Line" from Beetlejuice is just gold!  Infected Mushroom.....Need I say more?  They opened with "Cities Of The Future" and it was on from there!  I hiked back up the hill later dubbed "Mother Of Satan" and caught some sleep to the tune of one of the worst DnB DJs I've ever heard.

Saturday,  July 1..........
Arise,  and off to Wal Mart!  I've developed a loverly blister on my heel that required attention.  We needed water and ice anyway.  So we drive to the Wally World in Carbondale,  and then head on back.  We make our way down to the cave,  and hang out that afternoon in the shade,  awaiting the night's performances.  Honestly,  the only thing that really stood out about Saturday night to me was John B.  Everyone else was fine,  but John B was the only one that really grabbed my attention... ..>..>
Side note:  Paladin 5.1,  a Hardstyle DJ,  had some guy yelling "Fake" at him.  After his set,  Paladin leaves the stage,  puts his record in the vehicle that brought him down,  finds the guy,  and proceeds to ream him out for calling him a fake.  Mind you this,  paladin 5.1 is a BIG guy in a rather elaborate robot suit with a high powered laser.  Go check some pics of him...It'll make this story even funnier.  Paladin walked around the crowd for almost 2 hours after the incident taking pics with people.  Every once in a while,  you'd see a green laser shoot up above the cave from the Outlawed Stage.  The joke was Paladin 5.1 was the final boss in front of the bathrooms,  and the laser was a sign that he'd just vanquished an enemy.

Sunday,  July 2..........
Camp Buttertub is torn down,  and we leave Will,  who was to head back.  Fitzpatrick and I travel north to the lovely town of Carlyle,  IL just in time to catch a car show.  We saw a whole buncha neat cars there,  including a '32 Dodge and a Dolorian.  We continue north to Eldon Hazlet State Park,  where Camp Buttertub is reassembled for a night, and we get a shower and hit the pool.  Other than being eaten alive by gnats,  Eldon Hazlet State Park was great!  I'm looking forward to going back there.

Monday,  July 3......
Camp Buttertub is town down yet again,  and we depart Carlyle and head to O'Fallon.  O'Fallon is home to the WORLDS GREATEST CRACKER BARRELL!!!!!!  Then we rolled through St. Louis and hit the Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell,  IL.  Camp Buttertub was erected for a final time as we hooked up with our boy Dave Richards(aka RedSavior) and started another week of shenanigans.  That night,  we heard a great set by Responsible T on the Midway.  It was then off to bed.

Tuesday,  July 4......
All is well in Camp Buttertub,  as we get a nice,  quiet night of non eleventy-billion degree weather.  Tuesday was pretty much a day of chillin and illin with the crew before heading off to see Club Worship in the Dance Barn. Excellent stuff!  These guys did a great job.  Head to their place in Reading,  PA and check 'em out sometime! ..>..>

Wednesday,  July 5.......
Shenanigans begin in earnest as the Festival kicks off officially.  We roam around the property during the day before our campmate Dimitri aka DJ Dima rocked it Tribal style in the barn that night.  Fitzpatrick followed up after that,  and he was above average.  DJ Stryke closed out the night with his insane skills and banging techno.

Thursday,  July 6........
Camp Buttertub sleeps in as to recover from the previous night,  but then heads into Macomb to hit the Wal Mart and do some laundry.  Ahhhhh....Clean clothes!  We discover the most wonderful Chineese buffet,  where we got absolutely ripped on carbs.  Adam Sean aka Zion's Gate gives us a call,  we hit Wally World again,  and head back to C'Stone...Adam takes Dimitri's place in Camp Buttertub and we head off to the Dance Barn for the night.  Opening was Jeremy Kadinger with the tech house massive,  followed by DJ Life!  Shiloh headlined the night with an insane house mix.  Then we headed back with our Shiloh Brothers for some fellowship,  and crashed for the night.

Friday,  July 7........
Back into town for more Chineese!  Then we hung out at Camp Kadinger for some wonderful Chili prepared by Heather.  After food,  fun and Fellowship at Camp Kadinger,  it was back to the Barn for Zion's Gate,  Sheltershed,  and The Enemy!  Friday was a good day indeed.

Saturday,  July 8......
Camp Buttertub is dissassembled,  and we head back to the 'Ham....Not much excitement.
