Notes on the LA Ramoniacs Event.
Just want to say the outdoor event on Friday August 1st at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery was a gas. This was my second year at this event and I enjoyed every moment, my thanks to Linda Ramone for making it a special night.
It was great seeing Tommy, Marky & CJ there, a rare event indeed. Visiting Dee Dee's grave and the Johnny Ramone monument is always a special moment for me. The turn out was terrific and the fans didn't disappoint. I sold all the books I brought with me, I'm sorry I didn't bring more. I shared the signing table with the great photographer Jenny Lens who was selling her book "Punk Pioneers" a great book with spectacular photos from that exciting period in history. The Ramones live concert show from the Provinssirock Festival in Finland 1988 was introduced by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It has great live footage of the band in their prime and brought me back to the good old days of being "On The Road With The Ramones". I got to do a live on air broadcast with Joe Escalante for Indie 103.1 my favorite radio station in LA. To top off the night the movie Freaks was shown and introduced by Tommy Ramone.
I want to thank Kim Rabaglia of Music Sales - Bobcat Books for helping me get the books, Noelle Potvin of Hollywood Forever for her hospitality and John Cafiero. All in all it was a super night and I hope to do it next year.
Rock On!
Monte

SPECIAL OUTDOOR SCREENINGS FOR RAMONIACS EVENT AUG 1ST IN LA.
Hey Ho!
Here is some more info on this event on Friday August 1st at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery - 6000 Santa Monica Blvd. LA.!
FULL- LENGTH RAMONES CONCERT & 1932 CULT CLASSIC "FREAKS" TO BE SCREENED AS A DOUBLE FEATURE!
The movie screenings kick off with the RAMONES LIVE at the Provinssirock Festival in Finland. The 1988 performance (featuring Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee & Marky) originally aired live on European TV over twenty years ago and has not surfaced in its entirety since. The show also features a unique appearance by the Red Hot Chili Peppers who were slated to perform later that evening. The Chili's decided to make a "special" on stage appearance during Cretin Hop and got an earful from Johnny after the show! Ironically, years later, Johnny & the Chili Peppers would become close friends. FLEA (of the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) WILL APPEAR IN-PERSON to introduce the concert and tell you the "naked truth" about what went on behind the scenes that rainy night in Finland over two decades ago.
Immediately following the full-length concert, the double feature continues with the legendary cult classic "FREAKS" courtesy of Warner Home Video. "Freaks" is highly relevant in Ramones culture having served as the inspiration for their classic song "Pinhead" (on the sophomore album 'Leave Home"). The wedding cup scene in the film spawned the lyric "Gabba Gabba we accept you, one of us" (originally "Gooble Gobble" in the film) and the mutated Ramones tag-line "Gabba Gabba Hey" was born! Plan on being there and be, One of Us...Gabba Gabba Hey!

The Legendary Jeff Salen
I'm very sad to post this blog; Jeff was an old friend of mine and a part of my early musical history. Tommy Ramone and I had the great pleasure of playing in the band Butch with Jeff way back in the early years of NYC rock.
Tuff Jeff Salen, one of the pioneers of the downtown ....New York.... punk music scene of the 1970s, died of a heart attack on Saturday, January 26. ....
As founder and lead guitarist for the band TUFF DARTS, ....
Jeff wrote their biggest hit single, "All For The Love of Rock and Roll." In recent years, Jeff and his wife, Diana, had opened two hugely successful boutiques in ..Manhattan.. — one on the ..Upper West Side.. and one on Madison Avenue. But Jeff never stopped his love and need for the music and continued to play local gigs either sitting in with blues bands or his monthly shows with a reformed TUFF DARTS. He became one of the most sought-after session players in the blues genre and released his first album after a 20-year hiatus, 2005's "The ....Endless Road...." ....
Jeff is survived by his wife Diana and their daughter Sofia. They have released the following statement: "We will miss him for his great heart and his tremendous talent. We love him very much."
....
Also please read this Punk Magazine tribute.....
