Straight To Video

I'll be DJing this Friday in a trendy Shoreditch venue in an all new event called "Straight to Video" which is a night dedicated to the music made for and used in the movies. I'll be playing a completely non-dance set so don't come along if you want to dance the night away. There will be lots of oddness from the likes of Goblin, John Carpenter, John Barry, Danny Elfman, Ennio Morricone, Vangelis amongst many others. The first night is going to be a fairly random affair with no real theme other than playing just soundtracks, in coming months there are plans to take on specific genres and if I have time I'll be putting together some incredible mixes that will change the shape of the music centers in your brain.

In another room being terribly clever will be my old chum The Freelance Hellraiser and to be honest I have no idea what he's going to get up to but I bet it'll be really special and something you can boast about witnessing to all your friends the following morning.

All the info you'll need below;

Straight To Video @ The Last Days Of Decadence

A night of music from the movies - from the obscure to the obvious... Expect very special guests and cameo appearances from movie-type people and film buffs.

Last Friday of every month
8pm-2.30am // £5
Nearest tube: Old St

The Quietus Mash-up

A new website called The Quietus was launched recently and to mark the occasion they asked me to create a 'mash-up' that encapsulated the sort of music that their site will be writing about which covers the last 30 years or so of popular culture. What I gave them was a 50 track mix in a similar style to Intro-Inspection. You can go and listen to it now by following this link;

www.TheQuietus.com/mashup

If you're able to work out all the tracks that feature in the mix you could win an iPod touch. I wouldn't mind an iPod touch myself but I'm not allowed to submit an entry.

I'm quite happy with the way the mix turned out. Had The Quietus not asked me to do it then I wouldn't have ventured down this road again but I'm glad they did now. I doubt I'll be doing another mix in this style or of this magnitude again but then if people like this mix then it might be worth having another go at some point. I'm curious to see if this style of mix is seen as old hat or perhaps done to death, also I think a lot of people are getting better at doing this sort of thing now and as such my mixes won't stand as much as they did say 7 or 8 years ago. Who knows? I'd be keen to hear what everyone makes of it.

Anyway, go and check out The Quietus, it looks like it's shaping up to be a pretty fine site but then I'm no expert on these matters so I'll paste someone elses description into my blog to save me fumbling around for the right words;

The Quietus is a new website that carries the best writing and cutting edge audio visual content on the most noteworthy music and pop culture from the last 30 years. In short we will be an essential read guide to the best in new albums, reissues and related books, comics, graphic novels, TV series, DVDs and the like, concentrating on quality over hype. We will inject a strong mix of opinion, humour, intelligence and passion back into journalism utilizing the best writers for the job. If you don't actually believe that Jack Penate is the best thing since Nirvana but you're still not ready to slump into yet another feature on 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' then we could be the thing you're waiting for.

First and foremost the emphasis will be on quality writing that avoids the all-filler no-killer route that so many magazines have gone down. We're just as sick as everyone else at how cotton-brained the lifestyle publication industry has become – giving more time over to pet psychology, advice on how to wear scarves and how to make free range squid marmalade than anything of interest. If these mags were any more stupid you'd have to milk them.

New music on the way.

I finished a little track today and then placed it carefully into a folder along with some other ditties I've been working on recently and it's starting to look like an album is coming together. I was tempted to release what I've got one track at a time on Bleep and iTunes as and when I finished them but now I can see an album developing in front of my very ears. So my plans to release a single next week has been canned in favour of doing an album. I'm more than aware that my previous attempts to get a collection of tunes together like this have failed, apart from in 1999 when the one and only osymsyo album was released. I'm pretty confident I can get this new one together as I'm well past the half way mark now and I'm not as precious as I used to be. I can't put a date on it but it will be this year.

Here we go again.
Current mood: adventurous
Category: Blogging

Was it really October when I made my last post, that's shocking. A total disgrace. The main reason for this is that I have another blog out there where I post things now and then http://osymyso.blogspot.com/ and thinking about it now there's not much happening on there either. Another disgrace but not a total one. I had decided to use the MySpace blog for specific announcements like a new track, remix or a gig, you know the kinds of things that a prolific musical artist would need to let his fans know about and then the other one would be a place to ramble on about anything that crossed my mind. One thing I've learned about myself is that a, I'm not prolific enough and b, I'm not especially good at social networking. I look at other people's MySpace pages, blogs, Facebook pages and web sites and wonder how the hell they manage to find the time. I think I'm just gonna have to throw things up on the web and see what happens, crap video's, half finished tracks, blurry photo's and endless posts about nothing much seem to be in vogue right now and I think I can handle a bit of that. I'll probably forget I made this post and it'll be here at the top of my blog for months and months, a testament to my poor social networking skills and poor use of grammar.

Transmission
Category: Music

My first DJ appearance in a long time will be at Transmission on the 3rd of November. I've been given control of the Gallery Bar for the evening so I invited The Freelance Hellraiser over to help me out and between about 10PM and 3AM we'll be playing whatever the hell we like. See ya there.

Chick Habit (Relapse)-NEW OSYMYSO REMIX

The new Tarantino film "Death Proof" has a brilliant song at the end of it called Chick Habit that's performed by April March. It's been looping on my ipod for a while now and I was really keen to remix it to bits and see what it can to a dancefloor full of people. I've done just that and also included parts of the original France Gall version from the sixties that's sung in French (it was written by the genius that is Serge Gainsbourg).

You can download the track right now as it resides on the front page of my site www.osymyso.com.

Archive
Category: Music

There is a new page on my website called Archive where you can download lots of old bits I did ages ago. I'll also be adding more stuff as I'm reminded about it so it will grow over time to become the definitive collection of all my nonsense. Feel free to inform me of any tracks you'd like me to upload.

A mild update.

It's been ages since I last blogged here. Unfortunately there is nothing that could be classified as a newsflash for you to read in this blog right now. I just want to make sure you know I'm still out here doing my thing and that there is new stuff in the pipe line. I've been creating loads of new music and once there is enough I'll get it up on Bleep and iTunes so you can get hold of it, I'll still be putting stuff to download for free on my site too once I've finished this latest batch of tunes.

So, there you have it. Nothing to report other than letting you know that something is happening.
