Loser Take All: Election Fraud and the Subversion of Democracy, 2000-2008
Current mood: defiant
Category: defiant News and Politics

If you think Bush stole the election from Gore, and you suspect Bush stole it from Kerry as well, it's actually much MUCH worse than that. In addition to Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, there were other rigged states in 2004. Well beyond that, were SEVERAL rigged races for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives and state governorships in the 2002 and 2006 midterms. Mark Crispin Miller is back with more documentation of these crimes with his latest book on the subject, "Loser Take All: Election Fraud and the Subversion of Democracy, 2000-2008." Hear my new radio interview with Professor Miller.

Military Religious Freedom Foundation
Current mood: fired up
Category: fired up News and Politics

If you've had concerns with Christian extremists and their attacks on the separation of church and state, you really need to hear this.  Whereas you may have seen some holes that have been made in the wall between religion and government, Mikey Weinstein (founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation) explains how in one institution -- the U.S. military -- that wall has been obliterated.  In this interview, Weinstein, more importantly, discusses how he's leading the charge in fighting back.  Yeah, check out this talk I had with him on my radio show.

Interview with the Director of Able Danger
Current mood: insubordinate
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

Able Danger is a new independent movie that uses a film noir style to tell a dark disturbing story about what really happened on 9/11 and what happens when a researcher gets too close to the truth.  It is inspired by the real-life character Sander Hicks and the research he published in "The Big Wedding: 9/11, The Whistleblowers and the Cover-Up."  Hear my radio interview with the director, writer and producer Paul Krik.

On September 13th and 14th, a conference will be held in Andover, Massachusetts, the purpose of which will be to explore legal grounds for prosecuting President Bush and top members of his administration for war crimes.  The convener of this event is Lawrence Velvel, dean of the Massachusetts School of Law.  Hear my radio interview with Dean Velvel.

Against Happiness: In Praise of Melancholy
Current mood: Melancholy
Category: Melancholy Religion and Philosophy

"Against Happiness: In Praise of Melancholy" is writer Eric G. Wilson's latest philosophical exploration.  One of the points of the book is that Americans' unexamined obsession with superficial happiness -- and shunning and denial of essential melancholy -- leaves us only partial humans and actually is a hindrance to much higher states such as joy, ecstasy and transcendence.  Hear my radio interview with Wilson.

Why Chickenhawks Love Torture
Current mood: awake
Category: News and Politics

I had these thoughts while hearing about Douglas Feith act like he was doing a noble thing when talking about the war crimes torture program he helped to implement:

Chickenhawks like Cheney and Feith feel a deep and unexamined sense of shame and inadequacy about their lack of true warrior status and experience. They feel that by ordering and promoting the unthinkable (in spite of all evidence against its value), they are somehow making themselves tough guys. They are the ones willing to do anything, they're hoping you'll think. Simultaneously, they're hoping you won't notice that that "anything" is only anything that puts them in no personal danger.

And the Neocons in general (to the extent that they are strict ideologues and not just opportunists) are suffering from what Carl Jung would see as shadow denial. They see the world in strictly good versus evil, with themselves as the good guys and their enemies as totally evil. By projecting all evil "out there," they are denying that they have any dark side. While they are obsessing on "evildoers" over there, their own shadows are mutating and growing until they come bursting forth as Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, Extraordinary Rendition, Fallujah, etc. These NeoCon chickenhawks BECOME the "terrorists" they obsess over.

Lucha VaVoom Interview
Current mood: Amused

Lucha VaVoom is a wonderfully wacky and excitingly exotic live show. It takes some of the best elements of classic Mexican masked wrestling (lucha libre) and of a classic burlesque show and creates its own updated sci-fi/hot rod/horror flick twist. What?? Well, Lucha VaVoom sort of has to be witnessed to be understood. However, this fun radio interview I did with the creators gives a bit of an idea...

Stuffed & Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System
Current mood: inspired
Category: News and Politics

Hear my radio interview with Raj Patel, author of the new book "Stuffed & Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System."  This is a shocking expose' of all the political machinations, social upheavals and murderous horrors involved in the process of how and what food gets from the field to your table.  Naomi Klein has referred to this as "one of the most dazzling books I have read in a very long time.  The product of a brilliant mind and a gift to a world hungering for justice."

Sander Hicks, 9/11, The Whistleblowers, and The Cover-Up
Current mood: energetic
Category: News and Politics

The new movie Able Danger has caused quite a stir at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and is scheduled to be released soon in the U.S. This dark tale of intrigue deals with the crime of the century and what happens when a young independent publisher and coffee house proprietor is introduced to information that implicates some of the most powerful people on earth. The real-life inspiration for this film is publisher, writer and activist Sander Hicks and his book "The Big Wedding: 9/11, The Whistleblowers, and The Cover-Up."

Hear my radio interview with Hicks.
