Think Pink Slogan Contest -- Winners Get Autographed Copies of my Books!
Current mood: creative
Category: Writing and Poetry
Hi, guys! As a few of you might know, I'm a member of NorCal Think Pink. Y'all know what a great organization that is and WE NEED YOUR HELP.
October is Think Pink month. During that time we plan to post slogans on signs around town. Slogans like: No Lumps are Better than One. Okay, that's really lame, but you get the drift. We want clever little sayings that are short, but will get people thinking about Think Pink, and more importantly, checking their breasts.
Anyone who provides a slogan (that's approved by our Board) will receive autographed books from me. This includes Total Control. The board will vote on the matter next week and so time is of the essence.
Have at it, girls! Pam

Total Control an RT BOOKclub Top Pick!
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Writing and Poetry
The AOL gods have decided to shine down on me. Gasp! I can actually dial up the Internet from home. Even better, AOL is allowing me to browse Myspace. My sun, moon and stars must be aligned. And thank god, too. I was really hoping it'd work because I wanted to share the great news…
TOTAL CONTROL is a Top Pick! Golly gee, you'd think after--what?--fifteen published novels--and a few books that are written but not published yet--that I wouldn't care about great (or not so great) reviews. Nope. I still get all jazzed when it's a good one. And I haven't been a Top Pick since my last historical. Frankly, I'd given up hope of ever being one again, LOL.
Anyway, here's what they have to say... _______ This new installment in Britton's NASCAR series is the best yet. It not only brings alive the sport but also the emotional roller coaster of those who have a loved one suffering from cancer. The story is heartachingly real but also wonderfully hopeful. It's an incredible read. _____ Summary: NASCAR bad boy Todd Peters meets his match when he disappoints one of Indi Wilcox's clients. Indi works for Miracles, an organization that grants wishes for seriously ill children. Determined to get Todd to fulfill his promise to meet with one of her kids, Indi is surprised when he not only does but becomes involved in the boy's life as well.
Todd also tries to involve himself with Indi -- but she refuses to let that happen. She thinks she knows all about egotistical jocks, but Todd is about to teach her not to judge by appearances. (HQN, Sep., 384 pp., $6.99) MILD
—Susan Mobley
Thank you, Susan! Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! You have no idea how good it feels to know that TOTAL CONTROL hit the mark—for you at least. Here's hoping it'll work for others, too.
This must be my week for good news. Finally. Jeesh, I was starting to think the black cloud following me around would never leave me alone. Bippy--my baby horse--won high point open English horse at his first full-fledged show. I'd only ever done walk/trot classes on him before. To be honest, I was nervous about cantering him in an arena full of horses. Plus, his canter transition (that's when a horse goes from a walk to a canter) leaves much to be desired. He's still learning how to keep his head down and how to pick up the correct lead (that's, well...never mind. Too hard to explain.). But he was such a trooper (it was HOT). He won just about all his classes. Jeesh. I'm starting to think I just might have a star on my hands. Who knew the little colt I found on-line would turn into such a good horse?
So that's it from me. Thought I'd post my GOOD news...for once. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the old black cloud doesn't return. BWUAH, just as I typed that my AOL booted me off the Internet. I had to log on all over again. That's hilarious! Guess I shouldn't get too cocky;)
Hugs, Pam

Wass Up?
Current mood: relaxed
Category: Sports
Well, I've been writing...and RIDING. LOL, this still causes much confusion amongst my friends and family. Lately, I've been doing a lot of both. My paint mare has been kicking a@@ at the horse shows. On the local level, she won EVERY class she was entered in week before last. I was so proud. I'm trying to win a series high-point (a belt buckle) and so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll continue to do well. On the National level--those doube judged paint shows--she's doing well, too. We won our hunter under saddle class--under both judges--and I somehow managed to stay on when I rode western. Unfortunately, that show was marred by tragedy.
My little dog, Amber Rose, was trampled to death when her leash became entangled in my horse's legs. My little girl was the one walking her, and so you can imagine what a horrible thing it was for her to go through...and a horrible thing to watch. We were so griefstricken that we almost left the show, but in the end I decided to stay. I knew I would cry the whole way home (I'd had Amber for eight years) and so I wanted to delay the enevitable. Somehow I managed to win my class--how I'll never know. And somehow we managed to get through the next few weeks. Poor Codi was devastated. She felt--and still feels--responsible. I console her with the thought that it was an ACCIDENT, and that it could have been worse. She often times wraps leashes around her wrist. If that had happened, she'd have been jerked off her feet and drug off with my dog. {{{{shudder}}} It could have been terrible.
So here's to little Amber Rose--a dog that was my constant companion and who I still miss every day.
Deep breath.
I think I've been riding more as a way to turn my mind from my grief. I love my dogs like they're my kids and so when I lose one, it's really hard on me. So, one day while battling tears,I got it into my head that my baby horse--he just turned four--should start his hunter under saddle career. We rode every day that week, and he did so well that come show day, I decided to take him along. I wasn't really sure if I'd ride him in a class, but he was so calm that I thought I'd do a walk/trot. We got second, but it was out of three horses. Whoop-whoop. Honestly, though, I was really proud of him. I had Classy with me that day, too, and because of the timing of the classes, there was no way for me to warm "Bippy" up. His registered name, by the way, is Bippity Boppin' Along. It's a good name for him, too, because he's soooo laid back. Anyway, after his stellar debut, I decided to take him to another show this past weekend. Helps when you can warm up! He was fourth out of twelve in his first class...not bad. Then he was second out of ten. He won his next class--out of eleven horses--and was second in his last class, again out of eleven horses.
I am one proud mama!
But the highest praise came from one of the local Quarter Horse trainers who came up to me and said, "WHERE have you been hiding this horse?" or words to that effect. She was so impressed by Bippy that she begged me to take him to a Quarter Horse show next month. Sigh. I'm committed to a Zone show on the paint circuit, but he'll be shown later this season for sure.
Anyway, I know I'm bragging on my babies, but I do love my horses. I've had Bippy since he was six months old. He's my boy, and so I'm tickled pink that he's matured into the horse I always knew he could be. I promise to post pictures of him ASAP.
Hey, I have a book out in September. Don't forget. Jeesh, that's only a little over a month away. Where has the time gone?
Speaking of books, I need to get to work. I'm trying to wrap up ON THE MOVE by next week. Wish me luck, although it's going pretty well now. I really like this book.
Race ya' later, Pam

Dallas Wrap Up -- And a Shout out to My Peeps
Current mood: loved
Category: Sports
Alas, it's back to work for me. Wait a minute, I don't think I ever stopped working. I got an e-mail from one of my editors while in Dallas which basically asked if I'd received the page proofs for the NASCAR Christmas anthology out this November. Picture Pam thinking to herself, "Say WHAT??" Obviously, I hadn't, and so I got a special delivery from one of the *other* Harlequin editors (mine wasn't in town). You guessed it. My page proofs. I must say, though, working on page proofs while drinking Mai Tais in the bar is the way to go!
I just want to say how nice it was to hang out with everyone. Rae, it was so fun plotting with you (just ignore Rick;). Gena, it was fun dirty dancing. You can slap me anytime. Tracy, your chicken story made me howl. Thanks. I needed that. Kristina Cook, so good to finally put a face with the name. Tina-weena, you better not spill the beans about my crush. Last time I went public with one of those, the guy ended up sitting next to me at a bar. Not good. (Or maybe it WAS good;) Aimes--always great to see you again. Dan and John, if you're lurking, it was fun "picking you up" at the bar. We were the envy of the conference while sitting with out "Amazon guys". Who else...who else. I know I'm forgetting some of you. Sorry. Give me a shout out to jog my memory.
Lastly, let me just say how much I appreciate each and every one of you. It was so nice spending time at a conference with some truly wonderful people. You all rock!
xxox Pam

Dallas Again
Current mood: mischievous
Category: Writing and Poetry
It's Saturday...and I'm pooped.
Last night was Harlequin's annual party. Ohmygosh. I danced and danced and (dirty) danced, mostly with my pal Gena-Bo-Beena-Showalter. That girl is NASTY. Of course, I'm one to talk because I was her peep out on the dance floor. I think we scandalized everyone, and all I've got to say about that is FUN.
It's been an interesting conference. News from the front is that historical romance is making a return. Vampires are done. Nobody wants them anymore unless they're incredibly different or unique (but isn't that always the case?). Paranormal is still going strong. The booksellers told us that sales are up. A Books-a-Million rep told everyone that erotic is also doing well in their stores. And the two Amazon reps are guys and they're HOT. (LOL. Just had to throw that in.)
Gossip being tossed about is that Gena and I are a couple (giggle). RWA National has made changes to their PAN (published author network) recognition status which means some upcoming Red Sage and Ellora's Cave authors won't be eligible for PAN anymore. They are also requiring PAN recognized publishers to pay their authors a minimum of a $1000 advance. As we all know, there are a few publishers out there who don't pay that much. Lastly, I've heard that Lara Adrian will be the next BIG THING.
So that's it from me. Tonight is the big RITA/Golden Heart ceremony. I can't wait to cheer my good friends on--and wear my sparkly dress. I'll report in on the event tomorrow.
Until then, Pam

Dallas - Day One
Current mood: chipper
Category: Writing and Poetry
Well, we've (Rae and I) been here for a day and so far no bail money needed. What the heck is wrong with us? I keep hoping Rae and I will get into some trouble, but that's kind of hard to do since it's a conference full of WOMEN. We need some men around here. Seriously, the year we shared our conference hotel with the California Police Association was bliss. Men everywhere. Sigh.
We have a spotted a few 'celebrity' authors. Nora Roberts is here (as she is every year). I spotted one of my very favorite authors: Susan Elizabeth Phillips. She was having dinner right next to me and I had to resist the urge to go over to her and make a complete (gushing) fool of myself. I just love her books. I think Danielle Steele will be here at some point. She's getting an award. I've never seen her up close and personal before and so I'm looking forward to that. I have to wonder if she's as stunning in person as she looks in her photos. Doesn't it just throw you when you meet your favorite author and they look NOTHING like their publicity photo? Men always seem to look the same, but not women. I swear most of them Photo Shop themselves until they're unrecognizable.
So tonight's the big autograph session. I hope to see a few of you there. Remember, the proceeds go toward a really good cause.
I'll try and check in day after tomorrow. Thursday is a really busy day for me and so I doubt I'll have time to do much other than run around. Take care, everybody! Pam

2007 "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing
Category: Writing and Poetry
Here's information on the RWA Booksigning that I mentioned earlier:
Romance Writers of America is proud to host the "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing at the 27th Annual RWA Conference in Dallas, Texas, on July 11, 2007, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Hyatt Regency hotel. Over 450 romance fiction authors will be signing books donated by publishers with the proceeds of the sales going to literacy charities. RWA has raised approximately $500,000 for literacy since the inception of the "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing event. Check out the list below to see if your favorite authors will be there, and then join us at the event! (This event is open to the public.)
Please note: Since this is a literacy fundraiser, please do not bring more than a total of five of your own books for the authors to sign. We want to raise as much money as possible to help fight illiteracy.
As of 06/18/07, these authors will be signing books at the Literacy Autographing:
Shana Abe C.T. Adams C.H. Admirand Lara Adrian Jami Alden Lacey Alexander Victoria Alexander Renee Alexis Elizabeth Amber Karen Anders Jessica Andersen Bella Andre Gina Ardito Kelley Armstrong Judith Arnold Keri Arthur Jennifer Ashley Kate Austin Lori Avocato Jina Bacarr Kathleen Bacus Judy Baer Roz Bailey Mardi Ballou Nina Bangs Jill Barnett Jo Barrett Linda Barrett Gerry Bartlett Beverly Barton Shelley Bates Elizabeth Batten-Carew Alexandra Benedikt Jules Bennett Renee Bernard Heidi Betts Elizabeth Bevarly Jo Beverley Jenna Black Shayla Black Sandy Blair Toni Blake Stephanie Bond Lori Borrill Marie Bostwick Elizabeth Boyle Eden Bradley Shelley Bradley Shelley Brannigan Jean Brashear Cynthia Breeding Helen Brenna Allison Brennan Dee Brice Kate Bridges Terri Brisbin Pamela Britton Suzanne Brockmann Connie Brockway Gemma Bruce Nina Bruhns Niki Burnham Monica Burns Jaci Burton Nancy Bush Gayle Callen Candy Calvert Dawn Calvert Anna Campbell Linda Cardillo Opal Carew Kathy Carmichael Teresa Carpenter Robyn Carr Dixie Cash Kathryn Caskie Mary Castillo Maureen Caudill Michelle Celmer Victoria Chancellor Janet Chapman Layla Chase Lisa Childs Ann Christopher Cathy Clamp Pamela Clare Jaycee Clark Debra Clopton Kresley Cole Debby Conrad Kristina Cook Jerri Corgiat Nicola Cornick Leigh Court Tami Cowden Gretchen Craig Susan Crandall Megan Crane Susan Crosby Claire Cross Melinda Curtis Victoria Dahl Claudia Dain Jacquie D'Alessandro Margaret Daley Kathleen Dante Kay David Patricia Davids Stephie Davis Geralyn Dawson Alyssa Day Sylvia Day Gail Dayton Annie Dean Kimberly Dean Cindy Dees Ann Defee Robyn DeHart Claire Delacroix Jana DeLeon Janelle Denison Kathie DeNosky Anna DeStefano Thea Devine Delilah Devlin Lori Devoti Helenkay Dimon Christina Dodd Susan Donovan Kate Douglas Cheryl Dragon Dianne Drake Isabelle Drake Laura Drewry Eileen Dreyer Judy Duarte Michele Dunaway Natalie Dunbar Diana Duncan Kathleen Eagle Jennifer Echols Anne Elizabeth Simone Elkeles Suzanne Enoch Jennifer Estep Wendy Etherington Anna J. Checking in :)
Category: Writing and Poetry
Hi, guys! Just coming up for air. I'm still around. Still checking my messages from time to time. Be patient if you e-mail me 'cause it might be awhile before I can get back to you.
I'm still working on ON THE MOVE. The book's coming along nicely. Can't say it's one of my favorites so far (like the upcoming TOTAL CONTROL), but that's probably because I need to step away from it for awhile.
Hey, I'll be in Dallas, Texas July 11-15 for the Romance Writers of America national conference. Drop by and see me if you've got the time. Look for details on a booksigning I'm doing on the 11th.
In the meantime, take care! I'm thinking about you guys.
Pam
