Dr. Horrible and surgery and Aug 30 in Groton MA w/Buffie G.
Current mood: working
Dr. Horrible & surgery & Buffie Groves and I are actually rehearsing to do some shows together.
Not at all connected.
But I did have the surgery on my left hand and all is well. Yeah!
Now both hands are carpel free.
Well I still have my carpels but they're freer.
And my back up boys are freer because they won't have to watch for when they have to cover for me because one of my hands went dead and I can't play the guitar for 30-90 seconds.
A long time considering the 240 second song.
Of course now I have no excuses left for not getting back to the work of playing better guitar. Oy.
I do have arthritis to look forward to.
But that's a little way off so there's at least 10 years where I will have absolutely no excuse.
So I've signed up for lessons with a very amazing - I mean AMAZING - musician. I am very excited.
I will not name him until I have mastered something really cool on just one of my songs though - so as to shield him from misplaced blame for my lack of learning ability.
But look for me taking the leap into new things at gigs - and not really making the landing correctly until about, say, January 09.
Until then though you'll get to see&hear Buffie and I playing some gigs together! Yeah! Check the sched!
PATTY'S POP CULTURE TIME WASTING SUGGESTIONS
Since I have had so much time to fill while I've been hurting and/or healing
- lo these last 2 years! -
I am so appreciative that the entire entertainment and artist industry has stepped up to the plate to entertain me. GREAT stuff on TV (not the 457 except of course Craig!) and on line.
So - as my usual "here's how to waste some time" public service to you - here's some new and still hanging in there stuff I'm watching.
My newest (and I'm always at least a few months behind with this stuff so you're probably all on board with the coolness already) things are:
Torchwood - John Barrowman yum
Show also has given me my new favorite new word: snog As in:
I'd like to snog him or He snogged me or We were snogging.
snogging.
Dexter - pc bloodletting. Dr. Horrible - fabulous. Neil Patrick Harris' Old Spice Commercial Neil Patrick Harris
Still obsessed with:
Monk Monk Monk Burn Notice - 2 yums Bruce Campbell and Jeffrey Donovan. Monk .
Thank you for checking in!

BEWARE reunion.com
Current mood: productive
Category: protective Web, HTML, Tech
FYI ALERT - do not be fooled by reunion.com. DON'T open and don't sign up.
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-lazarus16apr16,1,4041604,full.column
http://consumerist.com/380751/reunioncom-will-scrape-your-address-book-then-spam-your-contacts
Reunion.com dupes new members into signing up by sending them an email that pretends to be from an acquaintance who's been looking for them (on Reunion.com, naturally). After signing up, the site sucks in your contacts and immediately begins spamming them to join by sending out a similar email. If one of those people then signs up at Reunion.com, their contact list is scooped up and the cycle starts all over again, like a social engineering version of a virus or parasitic infestation. Maybe this is why Reunion.com can claim to register about 1 million new members every month. The LA Times traces how the process works through one accidental member's experience: West L.A. resident Elaine Schmidt experienced Reunion.com's aggressive marketing for herself when she received an e-mail the other day that appeared to be from a longtime acquaintance. It said: "Hi, I looked for you on Reunion.com, the largest people search service — but you weren't there." The e-mail instructed her to click on a link to see who else has been searching for her. Curious to see if her acquaintance had left a message, Schmidt, 44, clicked on the link and found herself at Reunion.com's site, where she was prompted to register so she could see who'd been searching for her. You know the rest. Elaine had to end up emailing 250 people to apologize for the intrusion. She also discovered that she'd been spammed by Reunion.com because someone she knows had fallen for it earlier that day: In Schmidt's case, the e-mail that prompted her to open her address book to the company appeared to come from Vera Eck, a Santa Monica psychotherapist whom Schmidt has known for a while. "I wasn't searching for her," Eck told me. Just an hour or so before Schmidt received her e-mail, Eck, 46, said she received a message from what appeared to be the father of one of the kids in her son's Cub Scout pack. Curious to know why he was searching for her, she registered at Reunion.com to see if her acquaintance had left a message. Eck provided access to her Gmail address book as part of the registration process. And so it goes.

Baltimore Hon!
Current mood: exhausted
Category: in a good way! Parties and Nightlife
So I'm in Baltimore.
I used to come down here a lot but haven't been back for a while.
Forgot how great it is.
I sped in here this morning so I could catch the Kinetic Sculpture Race.
WAAAAAY to much fun!!
I seriously easily walked 15 miles.
Then I stopped for food and beer and almost got carried away with the $1 beers.
This is why you'll see a lot of drunk people from Massachusetts in cities that can have alcohol specials. Massachusetts prohibits ANY kind of alcohol specials - like 2 for 1 or free alcohol. I don't think I could think of a place that has dollar beer back home. Wasn't too bad either.
Then remembered I had to work later that night - and stopped drinking.
My first gig tonight was at Read Street Books - imagine this - on Read Street.
Now these folks are the best. I have the whole second floor of the book store as my apartment for the night. Lissette and Chris got me food, made me up a pull out couch. Go HANG at this place. FYI it's bigger than it looks. The second floor has some nice space AND they've set up the two tvs up there w/feed from the first floor so folks on the second floor can see the show.
Now there were 5 people total there - you know I DON'T CARE because I had a great time - and besides they were 5 great people who were really nice. AND the owners actually sit and listen to you and pimp the room for your tips which really is so nice. I want more people there for the business. It's a really great place run by really great folks that really treat their musicians WELL. Lissette had me call her when I wanted to come home - I had another set at Mum's - and she didn't care that I wasn't getting home until 1am. And I hear I'm getting french toast in the morning. So I call her and she waits in the street for me to make sure I'm ok.
Are you kidding me - schweet!
Baltimore is a tough town but ya know I lived in Dorchester (MA) so I can hang.
Anyway I also got to play back by the incredible Stalking Horses and got to see my pal Sarah Pinsker. Got a chance to sit through her set and hear her and her Stalking Horses.
Listen ya'll know I hate everyone - but man I love what Sarah does. Great writing and great music. And tight tight band.
All that and I still have two days to go!
Out for now! pk

Got Bats?
Current mood: amused
Category: Pets and Animals
So right now I'm living in a big old b&b - which is headed down hill fast. I came here to help a friend of mine see if we could fix it up but unfortunately it's not going to fly.
But there is something flying.
4 floors 25 rooms - and this little bat is sleeping in the kitchen over the door jam to my area. LOL.
I walked into the kitchen this afternoon - let my cat (Le Monstaire) in there because no body else is around now - and I got my stuff from the fridge turned around and went to come back into my area and there he is - this cute little bat - sleeping on top of the door molding. LOL!
He's so freakin cute.
Four hours later I just went back out there - from the front door of course - and he's still sleeping there.
LOL. I'm like dude really if you're there in the morning I'm charging you rent.
At least I know why Le Monstaire decided to sleep out in my old bedroom area last night - she was sniffing around in the bathroom all night - when she's sniffing around there's a mammal somewhere that headed for a baaaaad death.
Anyway I successfully retrieved my wine from my fridge and after another glass I'll probably want to go get him and give him a little pet - but I won't....really....but he's so CUTE!

Sister Jeanette Normandin
Current mood: happy
I have been meaning to research the further story of Sister Jeanette Normandin for years. After reading the article in 2001 regarding her being asked to leave the Catholic church for a small ridiculous mistake, I wrote the aptly titled "Sister Jenette Normandin".
I've thought about how I should google her to see where she's at for years.
Finally did today and I was so happy to hear that she continued with her calling and her spirit until her passing in 2006.
http://www.peaceabbey.org/abbey/sisterjeanette.htm
I didn't know her personally at all. I just was moved (from frustration and anger) to write a very sarcastic (and blackly humorous) song about her, the Catholic church and the priest scandel and faith. It's become one of my more requested song. Of course I don't do it everywhere. Some audiences don't appreciate it's - ah - clarity...
I was concerned that maybe I should have sent it to her and asked her permission or feared that I might offend. But I'm happy to say that, from all I've just read about her, I'm guessing she just might have liked it quite a bit.
Sister Jeanett Normandin Sister Jeanette Normandin Well there you go again Thinking that we're all children of God.
You must have been crazy Baptizing those two babies Surely girl you know that's not your job.
After 50 years of service You started making the church nervous They said you had to go, and go today.
Sister, I tell you what, No ifs, ands or buts I'd follow, if it's you who leads the way.
Cause Jesus chose Mary Magdeline and Twelve relatively unknown fishermen And paupers and lepers to be his friend And spread His Word Or haven't they heard?
No I don't mean to cast aspirtions But have we not yet learned that Pride goeth right before the fall.
And current events have shown Maybe some ideas need to be overthrown Maybe that "all boys" club wasn't such a good idea after all.
It might be point fingers But the stigmata lingers Maybe we all should just get out and have some fun.
And realize it's not just guys Who are precious up there in God's eyes and Girls, don't just wanna be nuns.
Yeh Jesus He chose Mary Magdeline And twelve relatively unknown fishermen And paupers and lepers to be his friend And build His Church Right here on Earth And spread His Word - Or haven't you heard?
Alleluah Alleluha, Alleluha.

Pepperell, MA animal shelter closing - 100 cats need homes.
Current mood: blah
Category: Concerned Pets and Animals
Got this email today. Call Martha if you can help - take 1 cat at least if you can!
The Fund for Cats and Dogs, a shelter in Pepperell, is in the process of closing due to the death of the shelter manager. They have over 100 cats that need homes. None of the cats will be going to a kill-shelter, but the ideal situation is the find a permanent home rather than another temporary one. All of the cats are spayed and neutered and up-to-date on their shots. Most are house trained and some are de-clawed. If you know anyone interested, they can reach Martha at 978-433-0404.
