Hi

I have recently come across a riddle which is the epithat of the Greek mathematician Diophantus who lived in the 3rd century AD.

The riddle is as follows:  'Here lies Diophantus,' the wonder behold. Through art algebraic, the stone tells how old: 'God gave him his boyhood one-sixth of his life, One twelfth more as youth while whiskers grew rife; And then yet one-seventh ere marriage begun; In five years there came a bouncing new son. Alas, the dear child of master and sage After attaining half the measure of his father's life chill fate took him. After consoling his fate by the science of numbers for four years, he ended his life.'

This is for fun only however if you enjoy a puzzle work out how old Diophantus was when he died.

He parecido recientemente una criba que es el epithat del matemático griego Diophantus que vivió en el 3ro ANUNCIO del siglo. La criba es como sigue: "Aquí miente Diophantus," la maravilla behold. Con el arte algebraico, la piedra dice cómo es viejo: El "dios te dio su adolescencia one-sixth de su vida, un twelfth más como juventud mientras que las barbas crecieron el rife; Y entonces con todo un séptimo ere la unión comenzada; En cinco años vino un nuevo hijo que despedía. Alas, el estimado niño del amo y sabio después de lograr mitad de la medida del sino de la frialdad de la vida de su padre lo tomó. Esto está para la diversión solamente sin embargo si gozas de un rompecabezas te resuelves cómo viejo Diophantus era cuando él murió.

'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.

It is amazing to realise, however tomorrow Friday 1st June marks the 40th anniversary of the release of The Beatles' groundbreaking album 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.

This was a fantastic album full of great songs some of which have become classics like 'With A Little Help From My Friends' and ' When I'm Sixty Four ' although I think 'A Day in the Life' and 'Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite' were the real showstoppers.

Any views?

Il Divo

Went to see Il Divo at Wembley Arena 16 May, they were fantastic.

The final rendition was Somewhere from West Side Story. It was mind blowingly brilliant and the boys fully deserved the standing ovation accorded them.

Hopefully they will be back next year.

Another major plus for me with a DSLR is the ability to alter the ISO shot by shot if needed.

Increasing the sensivitity as light levels change is a fantstic tool. So much easier than changing film part way through or push/pull in the darkroom!

For over 30 years I used film SLRs even manipulating images in the darkroom both B&W and colour. Oh the fun with smelly chemicals and wasted paper trying to achieve the results I wanted.

All through my professional years I firmly stayed loyal to film.

To this day I have a photo taken in September 1973 and burned and dodged in the darkroom on display in my spare room.

However I am now the proud owner of a Nikon D40X and am overwhelmed and wish I had jumped into digital earlier.  

Using Capture NX and Paint Shop Pro XI means I can finally get the images I visualised before pressing the shutter.

Black kit revisited

The only good thing about Pompey's game with Everton last Saturday was that will be the final time they wear the awful black kit.

We have lost loads of points wearing that terrible kit.

Good riddance!

As soon as I saw the black kit my heart sank. And so my worst fears were justified.

Why were we wearing black against Watford anyway? Surely getting into Europe is more important financially and prestige wise than selling a few more funereal shirts?

Let's start a campaign to bring back the gold kit from the Division 1 championship year.
