Cats Don’t Like Nanowrimo!

Believe it or not, I have been writing madly away in the batcave! It's all part of nanowrimo - the National Novel Writing Month contest!
In a nutshell, every November tens of thousands of budding writers and established authors participate in this fun Internet event where you try to write a 50,000 word minimum novel in 30 days.
I've never managed to hit 50,000 words, but it's fun. I'm taking advantage of nanowrimo this year to get at least a partial manuscript done plus an outline.

I might be AWOL for a bit because of the writing, but please be patient, future blogs to come! So please enjoy these cute pictures of my cat Oreo for now - he's found a new home in an empty Barnes & Noble shopping bag!

Hi! FYI, I'll be in Austin, TX for a Nov. 1 panel at the TEXAS BOOK FESTIVAL with YA authors Jennifer Ziegler, Lauren Myracle, and Melissa de la Cruz. For more information, please visit my website here at:
PANEL: "How Not To Be Popular" DATE: Saturday, November 1, 2008 TIME: 2:00 - 3:00 LOCATION: Family Life Center (1300 Lavaca) PANEL DESCRIPTION: "It's hard being a girl. And being a girl in high school? Like, omigod! This panel of young adult authors will lead you through the minefield of life as a teenage girl. Whether it's the hunt for popularity (and some girls will do the darndest things to get it) or an existential journey of self discovery, these writers cover teenage girl angst in poignant, hilarious, and horrific ways.
"With more than 20 years' experience in the field of children's books, moderator Jennifer Brown started her career at what was then Harper & Row (now HarperCollins). During her nine years there she worked in both marketing and editorial, before moving to Madison, Wisconsin, to become editorial director at Pleasant Company (known for their American Girls imprint). Homesick for New York, she returned for a position at Scholastic, and then moved to Publishers Weekly, where she worked as children's reviews editor for 10 years. She now reviews children's books and writes about the publishing industry for an e-newsletter called Shelf Awareness.
AUTHORS ON PANEL: Paula Yoo, Jennifer Ziegler, Lauren Myracle, Melissa de la Cruz (Moderator: Jennifer Brown)
The Texas Book Festival was established in 1995 by First Lady Laura Bush, a former librarian and an ardent advocate of literacy. Mrs. Bush created a task force to plan the book festival to honor Texas authors, promote the joys of reading and serve to benefit the state's public libraries. The first Festival took place at the Capitol in November 1996; the Festival has quickly evolved into one of the premier literary events in the country, annually hosting over 200 Texas and nationally known authors. In 2006, more than 45,000 visitors participated in a week-end of author readings and presentations, panel discussions, book signings, and musical entertainment at the State Capitol in Austin.
Stay tuned for live blogging on the road in Austin, TX where I hope to find some good Tex Mex food! Any suggestions from Texas natives are welcome in the comments section of my blog!
I had to post this - it's from the writer/director of the iconic "Wassup?" True advertising campaign for Budweiser. This is a great balance of playful humor, social satire, and heartfelt patriotism. Bravo!
PS. Here is the original WASSUP? commercial for Budweiser - it's so funny to compare these ads side by side!
More Book Fun! (Speeches, parties, it’s been a busy week!)
