Just to let you know, it's now officially on. The new record is under works! It started last week and 2 songs are now (more or less :) ) done. It's too early to talk about releasing dates etc. but it should come out next year.
NEW VIDEO - BEAT OF THE WEEK 6 with Felix Zenger !!!!!
Category: Music
Cowabunga!! It's time for the all new Beat of the Week!
Aaaahhh, back in the day...
It was the careless summer of 2007 and we were chilling at a rooftop near the Koff -park in Helsinki. Man, playing footbag on that roof was a thrill! It was me, Felix (before hitting over 6 million views in YouTube, that's ssssick! :D And he's all the way down-to-earth guy to this very day), DJ ÄssäMix and the almighty blues boy Alaska Kalanen. It wasn't purpously meant to be a BOTW clip but as you can see it might as well can continue the series :)
It was a stunning surprise to find this clip in the YouTube! The finnish BB group FLO-MO Rockers showed off some hip moves and they're dancing on Prime (0:55 & 2:50) and James Brown, it's a must see!
It's sooo cool and uplifting to see people dance on that stuff. Thanks guys!
We met again with Seth Horan (long time friend / the ultimate bassvirtuoso-singer/songwriter -man-thing) at the dark alleys of Frankfurt Musikmesse, we discussed the meaning of life and he-man (they're the same thing, right?) and we ended up at his hotel room... which was nice. We passionately wiggled our instruments together (we've known for 3 years but this was the first time), got it taped and here's the result = Beat Of The Week 5!
Check out Seth's work: http://www.myspace.com/sethhoran
I'm still hyped out of our jams in Frankfurt, it was such an eye-opener!! I've played a lot just solo the past year but the jams with Seth & Martin Harley (check out "beat of the week 4") just swept me away. Those guys are masters in what they do and you could throw anything at them and the results sounded so great. In other words - I didn't even know that playing with such great people could feel so good. Thanks guys! More feature -sessions guaranteed in future.
Finally! "Silence!" was released in Japan 26th of March by King Records!(www.kingrecords.co.jp/)
Yay! I’m just exploring the Japan-print CD. It features the lyrics, lot’s of symbols that I have no clue about and one extra song (U2’s "Where the streets have no name").
By the way, Silence is still available! Only the FIRST print was sold out last year, sorry for the confusion.
Special thanks to Kotaro Oshio (big Japanese fingerstyle-player) for his nice words. Check out his work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaoq01CA0DI&feature=related
This is really exciting! I’m in Tokyo for the last week of May. I don’t know the venues yet but I’ll put ’em up here ASAP when I get the info. I love sushi & Miyasaki films. And man, if I get the right moment I’m definitely going to steal this kick-ass CD-stand they’ve done. Dude, that’s just something else, damn! :D
Although that would be a bit freaky to be at home and have a cardboard figure of yourself in the corner. Well, Andy Simmons could maybe pull off that kind of thing. But it’s kinda arousing idea…Simmons, my cardboard face, uuh…
...sorry for giving that image.

P.S. Hah!! And in case you haven’t checked it out yet - here’s the the Beat Of The Week 4 with Martin Harley from the Frankfurt airport. Aaand remember to stay tuned next week... for BOTW 5 with SETH HORAN!!!
The fourth episode was done with my new friend, the almighty superman/half-genie/all-around-awesome-person/fingerstyle/slide-virtuoso Martin Harley (UK). Check out his new album "Grow Your Own", it’s hip!
We did this clip at Frankfurt airport lobby just before we had to run to our planes and continue to our separate adventures (sob!). We had done shows for Cuntz Guitars the past week (check ’em, they’re fantastic!). Now I got massive sexy abs, thanks to Martin. He just kept cracking me up every 5 minutes the whole damn week.
Stay tuned, part 5 is on the way, featuring the bass phenomenon Seth Horan (USA)... iiiih!
Oh dearly dear, I'm so thrilled that I have to change pants every two hours. The Frankfurt Musikmesse is around the corner! That means it's time to meet the old friends again after waaay too long time. I'm anxiously waiting to hear the rough musician humour (that will leave you chuckling on the floor). Seth Horan, Andreas Cuntz, Roland Joubert & Ralf Jung and the other guys, aaaaah!!! I either have start to control myself or reserve lots of pants for the messe..or just go with wild card of having no pants at all.mmm…. yess, pantless…
But meanwhile here's a little selection from the pants…past investments:
Bootsy – this boot is made for fonkin'
It's the very first P-funk record I ever heard. I borrowed the CD from the library mainly for the dope coverswhen I was 15 or so. The superb, chaotic vibes and hooks drilled straight trough the forehead. The P-funk stuff is unfortunately quite light sounding in general and especially on the remastered CDs didn't do much justice for the music but fortunately there's "bass", "treble" and "volume" knobs in most stereo systems, so don't hesitate to tweak 'em rough and nod that head forth and back, forth and back, forth aaaand back back back back…
Here's "Roto-Rooter" from Player of the year (1978), gotta love that moment around 3.40, it's a killer!
J Dilla – Shining
RIP J Dilla. This is a must mention but I'll keep it brief cause there's so much crap to talk about the other stuff (I'm such a pro critic-guy). It's full of overwhelming beats, some MCs don't fit so well here and there, D'Angelo throws astonishing piano solo in "So Far to Go" and blaablaa.. The point is this: the last song "Won't Do" is worth each and every cent. Enjoy the video!
José Gonzales – In Our Nature
After listening it trough dozens of times…it's… I just can't understand how one man is capable of doing it. His tone, sense of melody, rhythm and arranging are so clear and detailed. Everything is stripped to the bone and lined up by his ability to hold the tension. The result is powerful. Many songs are surprisingly short and it works fantastic. The lyrics touch the whole scale of inner dissonances and modern day politics at the time. His singing and melodies are full of "aaaaaahh.." moments. To put it short; he's assets are the things that matter the most - good music and good takes.
And on top of all this he recorded and produced it by himself. For crying out loud dammit!! Phuuh…This record went instantly in to the "this record changed my life" -section along the side of Primus' "Brown Album" and Michael Hedges' "Aerial Boundaries" for example.
Here's Gonzales' version of Massive Attack's "Teardrop":
So that's it for now, hope to see many of you guys at the messe…
...ah wonderful, it's time for new pair of trouser again! Yay!
peace. -pez
P.S. It's just too much... damn, it's just... this is the shit! Roger Troutman knew how to drive people craaaazy! To hell with the trousers, must boogie NOW!!!!
Wonderful surprise! I got the Honorary Price in the Funk Awards of 2007 for getting the most votes as an unnominated artist. Thanks to all the fans and voters for diggin' it!!!
