Death is only the beginning.
Current mood: discontent
Category: reflective Life

If i had just died today,  think there would be a few scenes that would flash before my eyes and I would embrace them fondly, knowing i just wasn’t ready for the next realm. I was always a Metacognitionist, a new word i just learned.

Even as a child i always though that if i could stay in the middle, do nothing, be staunch, i wouldn’t have to choose between light and dark, good and bad, yhin and yang. So i established myself a haven. a choice that wasn’t really a choice, staying in the middle. being undecided. not participating. by doing this, i would neither have won or lost. I would’ve been no more happier than i was sad. forever comforted by the apathy that was forfeit, nothing could ever be worse or better, because i abstained from the selfishness of choice.

However, over the years, Daoism, Peer-Pressure and life in itself have all taught me that choices will be made no matter what. Its in every situation and every choice that yin extends her cold, black hand and yang shines brilliantly upon you. The craving for knowledge has never been more powerful than letely and before i forget, these lifedefining moments must be recollected as best i can.

I like this about my blogs, they can always be updated. :-)

Age 6. This is about my seventh time running down the jagged cement sidewalk sloped down to about a 45 degree angle. I trip and scrape a chunk of flesh off my knee. I cry like all hell. I scream, because this isn’t the first time its happened, (actually it’s been happening all week that week.) " Why me? What did i do to deserve this?" and My mother scolds, "it’s because God’s punishing you! because you never listen to me." The explanation i never heard. All i heard was that god was punishing me and i didnt know why. I believe i had flown into some sort of tourettes. " I hate God! He would never do this to me if he loved me!" My mother looked at me as though i was not her kid. " You take that back." she said in the most fluent spanish. " god won’t let you into heaven if you don’t." I could care less about that at the moment because i always had my doubts about things I could not see. "whats wrong with you?" my brother aaron was always too late with his inquiries. That night, i prayed for a good four minutes, scared that i had provoked divine judgement.

And with a scrape on the knee, atheism was born.

Age 8. My sister Jenny, had lost her job and couldn’t afford her House in Rockaway and had to relocate to Manhattan, my house, to be exact. Theres where i met Loudy, my niece and potential confidant. I dunno why we call her loudy, her names Laura. ONe day i wake up at an early 5 AM and she was already awake and sitting on the couch. She asks what anybody would ask a twin, "which one are you?" i had become used to the alientation this questipon would propose, sometimes embrace it, playing pranks on the occasional person or two. So after discussing the earliness of the day we decide to do what kids do best, trouble. We thought it would be a good idea to climb the fire escape to the last (fifth) floor. I wasn’t as scared as i would’ve been because i had done this once before, only I was naked(Age 5). SO then, Loudy leans on over to look down and decides to spit all the way to the pavement. watching that spit splatter, some odd sensation came upon me, and I felt changed, as though something was proved. We were seen by some old bag and we ran for our lives back into the living room of my mothers apartment. we jumped on the couch till Bill nuy the science guy aired.

And with spit and gravity, Metacognition was alive.

I have more life defining moments but, it’s late and i have to call it a night.

CB9 Committee Votes Down Expansion Plan

By Anna Phillips
Issue date: 8/16/07 Section: News
The members of Community Board 9's Urban Land Use Review Procedure voted Wednesday night to oppose Columbia University's West Harlem expansion plan unless certain requirements were met.

The resolution, passed five hours after the meeting began, laid the groundwork for further negotiations between the University and CB9 and cited specific conditions under which the community board could come to accept the plan. The conditions-ten in total-range from insisting that Columbia take eminent domain off the table and withdraw the proposal for a 7-story bellow grade structure, to provisions for affordable housing, and promises that what is built will be done so as to minimize pollution and maximize sustainability.

"It's not a vote against [the plan]. It's a vote to negotiate," senior executive vice president Robert Kasdin, said.

In his comments for the record, CB9 chair Jordi Reyes-Montblanc supported the idea that both sides would have to give on certain issues and compromise was desirable. "The community must get over its suspicion and dread of the Columbia expansion and Columbia must overcome the feelings that they know better what is good for West Harlem and our people," he wrote.

The full board, whose vote is a nonbinding step in the city's Uniform Land Use Review Procedure, will vote on the plan on Monday.

But for many in attendance, the resolution was an afterthought to a long and chaotic evening.

Confusion began before the public comment period, when participants in a program calls the Addicts Rehabilitation Center-run by Rev. Reginald Williams of the United Missionary Baptist Association-stood outside the community center, handing out leaflets supportive of Columbia. Few knew why they were there or what they were doing.

"I just came for some fresh air," said one ARC member who would not give her name. "I don't know why I'm here. What are we doing? Supporting the projects?"

When the public comment session did begin, over 50 people were not allowed to enter the Manhattanville Houses Community Center because the auditorium was at capacity and, by the time they did gain entrance, had missed speeches by President Lee Bollinger and former New York City Mayor David Dinkins-both of whom voiced their support for the plan.Dinkins, like many others who spoke in favor of the plan, was berated by a pocket of West Harlem community members-mostly members of the Mirabal Sisters Cultural and Community Center and the Coalition to Preserve Community-who shouted and booed at speakers while waving maracas.

Resident Mario Mazzoni, like many others, addressed President Bollinger on a personal level. "If you're uncomfortable, I'm glad you're uncomfortable," he said. Others approached the microphone only to walk away seconds later, unable to make themselves heard over the din.

In total, 22 people spoke in favor of Columbia's plan, a larger turnout of support than the University has ever had at a community event.

Many of those who came to support the University's 197-c were members of the Coalition for the Future of Manhattanville, created by Bill Lynch Associates, a consulting firm that Columbia hired in April of 2006 to encourage more vocal support from people in West Harlem. A press release from the group lists 19 members, though Kevin Wardally, a consultant at Bill Lynch Associates, said more names would be released shortly.

"There's been a lot of miscommunication," said Rev. Williams. "People get hung up on eminent domain. If they [Columbia] haven't used it on 90 percent of the land, why would they used it on 10 percent?"

Another member of the new coalition, Hazel Dukes, the New York State Conference President of the NAACP, said that she believes the community board's plan, the 197-a, and Columbia's plan can be combined. "There's always room to negotiate," she said.

Despite this showing of support, opposition to the plan was overwhelming-73 people spoke against the plan's various elements and the disintegrating relationship between the University and the community.

"The expansion plan that Columbia has created makes me ashamed to say that I'm a Columbia student," said Desiree Carver-Thomas, CC '09.

Other speakers voiced disapproval of the new coalition of supporters for Columbia's plan.

"I really do think it's a travesty that Columbia should have bused in people here-people who have not been involved-to be a part of a dialogue about the future of our community," said Cecil Corbin-Mark of West Harlem Environmental Action.

CB9 member Dr. Vicky Gholson admonished both sides for their behavior. Those against Columbia's plan, she said, were being disrespectful. And to Columbia:

"I don't think you understand just how angry this community is," she said.

The Law
Current mood: blah
Category: Life

you know. the other day my friend got into an accident.  he was in a fist fight. it was with another guy.  he was rich and shit but he decided to get drunk on the other side of town. so my poor frined beats him up because he starts doing this racist skit and points my friend out. my friend got 3 months but the other guy got off with community service. DRAMATIZATION. LMAO but seriously, this is why humans shouldn't make law. emotions are the enemy of justice. i personally think they both should've got three months or atleast be charged similarly, because they both broke the same law. just a note.

other poem
Current mood: blank
Category: Music

this poem is a sadder one but it still sounds like a spell XD

I try in vain , to ease my pain but all the while it stays the same.
the evil stain, on this terrain, is stronger than the crooked rain.
the evil strain upon my brain, i try in vain. it stays the same.

o.o what should i call it? leave comments(and kudos) at the bottom.
