6:30 AM - The Iron Monger abides.

Probably the most interesting (and last) thing to come from the Iron Man movie toy line, is this Iron Monger figure with "opening cockpit."

2008 seems to be a big year for Jeff Bridges figures. First there is the Dude (Big Lebowski) figure from Bif Bang Pow, and now we get a bald-headed Bridges wearing a giant metal suit as well. All I need now is a Flynn figure from the old Tron line, and I'll have a complete set.

8:47 AM - Display stuff: "Multi-Level Doll Exhibit BOX" part 2.
In an earlier blog I'd mentioned a display box from The Container Store that was very cool. They also have another version in a different size, that works great for smallish (3 to 4 inch) figures.

The great thing about this one, is that it comes with an adjustable base that allows you to create steps for the figures.

Pictured here with my humble (and incomplete) Kubrick Alien collection, if you leave out the rear top step, it also works very well for Star Wars figures and the like.
Retailing at $9.99, if it's not available anywhere on The Container Store Web site, you can more than likely give them a call (1-888-contain) and have one shipped to you.

11:36 PM - Dork Alert: Cute robots make me happy!
Out now from Thinkway Toys (a Canadian company that seems to do a lot of roleplay toys mostly), comes a line of figures from the new Pixar film WALL*E.

As it turns out, I'm not only a sucker for robot toys, it seems that I'm also a sucker for animated films about cute/funny robots that fall in love with other robots and have robot adventures--blah, blah, blah. What it amounts to, is that without having even seen this film, I know that I'm going to love it, and will probably cry like some big moron when the little robots do... whatever little robots do in Pixar movies.

The toys themselves are very simplistic, but are also very well made, with some really nice attention to detail. These smaller basic figures don't have a lot of articulation, but Thinkway has come up with a decent spread of more complicated WALL*E toys as well, so I'm sure my need for more detailed cute robot toys will soon be met.

8:44 PM - Kubrick Chestburster.
If back when I was a kid, someone had told me that someday there would be "cute" Lego-like versions of the horrible bloody baby monsters from the movie Alien, I would have called them crazy.
Back then it was more than enough to grab a peek of the thing in a Fangoria magazine (maybe), but for sure you'd never expect anything like this...

But that's where we're at today, and though I appreciate that a company like Medicom puts out these fantastic Alien Kubricks, just the same, I'm more than aware of how weird it is.
Series 2 of the Kubrick Alien figures turned up near me recently, and I was able to (blind pick) score a Chestburster alien. Great stuff!

1:22 AM - Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Maybe it's time for me to admit that I've always found Mr. Potato Head to be somewhat creepy.

I was never a big fan of the little brown guy growing up, as the '70s version was probably one of the weirdest versions made. Those before that, dating back to the '50s, all share a similar kind of surreal design, that ultimately make me uncomfortable.
The idea of a vegetable with human features is creepy in the same way that I find the movie "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers" to be creepy. Vegetables should not have a mouth, a nose, or heaven forbid... arms.

But if you're going to break that rule, the best place to start is with the now classic 1983 version of Mr. Potato Head. It sported the first ever "trapdoor" back side, rubbery parts that could be mixed and matched (something that you couldn't do with the '70s version), and some very fun bendy wire arms.
1983 was just before Hasbro switched over to using the Playschool logo, and was briefly using a Hasbro Preschool logo instead. It was also a few years before '87 when Mr. Potato Head forever gave up his signature pipe, turning it over to (then) surgeon general C. Everett Coop.
I'd be willing to say that after this version, things have gone downhill for Mr. Potato Head, as we've since seen the world flooded with a never ending variety of uninspiring potato headed items.

12:46 AM - Is that a Simon in your pocket, or...
I celebrated "Earth Day," by doing something that I always do: I wandered down to a local thrift store, and bought something colorful, noisy, and made of plastic.
Often imitated, but never duplicated is the mind numbingly hypnotic Simon game from Milton Bradley.

What I ended up bringing home, was yet another (because I'm pretty sure I own two or three of them now), lovely boxed version of Pocket Simon.

It should be known that Pocket Simon is in fact far too big to fit in your pocket. I love the look of these toys though--as well as the Super Simon, which I know I've got around here some place--so I'm probably going to continue buying them when I find them for a dollar or two.
The same goes for most other old hand held electronic games I suppose.

10:52 PM - Iron Man Slurpee cups... more.
As it turns out, yesterday when I wrote that there are three Iron Man Slurpee cups in all, I was wrong. There are four, including a cup that features images of the "Mark 01" suit.
Shown below also, is one of those Slurpee straws. This one with a little removable figure of the Mark 01 suit attached to it. They'd run out of the other straws, so maybe next time. (Not that my body can handle much more Slurpee this week... or month... or year.)

1:25 PM - Iron Man Slurpee cups.
Speaking of Iron Man, our good friends at 7-11 have put out the latest in Slurpee cup fun. There are three different cups like the two shown below (missing is the "Iron Monger" cup), as well as a more expensive ($3.99) cup shaped like ol' shellhead's helmet. Also available, were a few different collectible Slurpee straws with little figures on them.
Fun stuff!
