NOW Toronto : Top 25 Reasons NXNE is Better Than Ever - PPP

11. Platinum Pied Pipers
NXNE Festival Preview

Slowly but surely carving out the sounds and styles they'll unveil on their sophomore LP, Abundance, coming this fall on Ubiquity, Platinum Pied Pipers and their ultra-nouveau eclectica will reconnect well with the modern hipster/electro rock/new wave/ R&B concoctions that are escaping people's private studios these days. Usual suspects Waajeed and Saadiq (not Raphael) continue conducting the soothing sonic assault, but we can also expect to see ever-dependable producers like DJ Spinna, Kev Brown, Oddisee and Geology alongside new-bians like MonicaBlaire and Nico Redd. Added to the group between their ?uestlove-loved 2005 debut, Triple P, is Coultrain from St. Louis, chanteuses Jamila Raegan from NYC and Karma from Texas. Like Sa-Ra and Dwele before them, PPP are steadily building their foundation of Canuck fanatics, and this rare opportunity to see them alongside so many of their Toronto contemporaries should impress. Platinum Pied Pipers perform at the Sound Academy June 14, 1 am.

Triple P Instrumentals in stores now!
Category: Music

All the tracks from the Platinum Pied Pipers' groundbreaking debut as instrumentals - available on limited white label wax only.

Includes 2 exclusive DJ-friendly bonus cuts!

By popular demand, Ubiquity is delighted to announce the release of the Platinum Pied Pipers debut album in instrumental DJ friendly vinyl format. Included are all of the album tracks PLUS two bonus cuts from beat-maker extraordinaire Waajeed.

The Platinum Pied Pipers debut album "Triple P," and subsequent tour dates, have earned them praise from all corners of the world. Smashing any current musical pigeon holes, the PPP team lead the charge of a new generation of hip-hop and soul producers. Their sweet soul music rides on bruising beats and rude bass lines and chunky hip hop tracks bump without all the bling and bragging.

Platinum Pied Pipers' "Triple P" was nominated for Album Of The Year and the band's live performance earned them a Session of the Year nomination from listeners to BBC Radio 1's Worldwide w/ Gilles Peterson show. This past year they played live with Roy Ayers at Summerstage in Brooklyn, completed a mix for Triple 5 Soul, and remixed The Herbaliser & Jean Grae for Ninja Tune and Marvin Gaye for Atlantic Records. They've also played live dates worldwide from Detroit to Toronto, Amsterdam to London.

Main man Waajeed is no stranger to those who know their hip-hop and dig for instrumental beats. Teaming up with production guru Jay Dee in th
e early 1990s, he helped form Slum Village and contributed tracks to their "Dirty District" compilation on Sequence/Kinetic as well as their critically acclaimed "Trinity (Past, Present, and Future)" album released on Capitol. He also worked with Jay Dee co-producing on the instant classic, "Welcome To Detroit" (BBE) as well as co-producing songs with soul sensation Dwele. Waajeed's Bling47 label provided the launching pad for "The Official Jay Dee Instrumental Series" and the first installment of his own popular "BPM" instrumental series, and will be releasing albums from Tiombe Lockhart, Invincible, and Waajeed & The Jazz Katz in 2006.
