I Met Bill Clinton, and Limozeen is Opening for Of Montreal!
Yay! If I could choose to meet 3 living people Bill Clinton would be one of them. CHECK. I met him last Thursday, read about it in the latest installment of PleaseBarack. I've been doing more blogging there than on MySpace of late, so check up on it...
In other news, LIMOZEEN will be opening for Of Montreal in Atlanta on November 8 @ the Tabernacle. That's gonna be a load of fun.
Yacht Rock and Tupperware Party have been working their butts off to fund the new Y O U records, both of which have been moving slowly but should pick up now. Gotta run, be good...
We had an awesome time last week playing Governor Perdue's Reception at the Republican National Convention. We swing to the left politically, but out differences didn't stop us from having fun together. Some of our friends asked us to play, and their actions promoting the cause in which they believed inspired us.
So we came home and started a new blog - PleaseBarack.com. You can read all about our adventures, find out how to help with our upcoming efforts to promote change, and check out sweet photographs of us with the governor on that blog. We'll keep this one focused on the music! Peace off...

the creative loafing’s BEST OF ATLANTA party tonight
hi friends - sorry for the promo blog, but we're slammed in all areas with gigs and the new record so please come see why our blogs have been so sparse and crappy lately...
the old loaf is throwing a voting party to determine everything that's best in atlanta, because those kind of subjective judgments are best decided by the democratic process.
we're not angling for any votes, we're just in it for a good time bill clinton style. so we're headlining the party TONIGHT at the star bar. our future friends winston audio and cassavettes are joining us.
come mingle with the CL staff and tell them who you think should win:
- "diner most likely to cause explosive 2"
- "most hyped atlanta celebrity who is a member of oukast"
- "best singer songwriter who wears sweatpants and tends to get himself into jazz situations"
while politicking, listen to our new tunes - the big band with a horn section and backup singers.
Y O U and the PleaseRock Revue Creative Loafing's BEST OF ATLANTA Voting Party The Star Community Bar in Little 5 Points - Atlanta, GA Wednesday, July 9 @ 8 pm - Y O U @ 10 pm
So should we change our band name to "The PleaseRock Revue" so everyone thinks of us as a new band? We do have a new sound and lots of new members... I think that qualifies.
But what if we lose touch with those who liked the old Y O U? Which old Y O U did they like? Every time we take another drastic turn, there are lovers and haters.
Alias rock. Chameleon-ism. Bands within bands becoming new bands with new names. That's how we've always done it, and we're staying true to our game.
The only thing that matters to me is having fun making music. And that's DEFINITELY the case with the soul vibe on our new record.
It's more upbeat and less introspective, at least on the surface. Sometimes the happiest songs are cloaked in darkness, and the saddest songs shine like a smile through the pain.
Playing with a horn section and choir not only fill out the sound during the live shows, but double the positive energy on stage. When the train gets rolling, it's REALLY rolling.
So if you haven't heard us yet, you should come check us out on Thursday night @ the 10 High. It's all Y O U, all night, and anything goes.
Y O U and the PleaseRock Revue 10 High Club - Atlanta, GA Thursday, May 22, 2008 Early Show: Doors @ 8:30 pm, Music @ 9:30 pm Sharp!
the new y o u record, which we're not even sure is a y o u record, is more than half way done. due to the time drain of the weekly residency at the 10 high, things have moved a little slower than we would have liked. but now we've made a couple moves to make sure we get it done asap.
to hear a preview of "the pleaserock revue" (that's what we're calling the group), come check us out on thursday night. it's only our second gig with the horn section and the back-up singers, and the nervous energy should make things interesting.
"honest man" - the newest song up on our myspace player - is one example. for old y o u fans: think how it would sound if every song was more like "la lindsay" or "physics of giving," that blue-eyed soul vibe. high-energy, i promise. not the indie-art-gaze stylings.
Y O U and the PleaseRock Revue The Surprise Party @ the 10 High 816 N Highland, Atlanta, GA 30306 Doors @ 8:30, Show @ 9:30 sharp!!! w/ Special Guest Ray Don and the Backwash Band
in other news: fresh off a very successful showing of the lite brite video at the atlanta film festival, gina and i are heading to indiana for the first week of may to do the primary filming for our new concert film / feature -length documentary, "the magical history tour." for 23 years our dad has been doing a classic rock history lesson / concert in our hometown of columbus, indiana. it's grown into the most important cultural event in town by bringing together students and parents and grandparents and community members, all of whom attend and perform in the sold-out show. 16-piece horn section, 6 violins, 5 guitars, choirs... it's a big show. when we play sgt. pepper's, it sounds like sgt. pepper's.
every student who sings a song has waited all year to sing in front of this fervent audience, and the energy on-stage is electric. so the movie is about the process of preparing for this concert, the concert itself, and my dad as the lightning rod of it all. he's a very unique character himself: he performs native american dancing, leads local environmental initiatives, has painted the entire history hallway with a timeline of the world, impersonates soviet generals for other schools, leads tours of the american west, and puts together this concert. so it should be a good movie. we'll keep you posted. see you all thursday?
Moviekiss: The Lite Brite Video makes yet another film festival appearance on Friday night, this time right here in Atlanta for the Atlanta Film Festival. We're part of the Animation Extravaganza at the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema on Friday May 18 @ 9:30 PM. So this will be the first time Gina and I will get to see our work on the big screen! We're amped, and we'll be celebrating beforehand at Apres Diem (next door to the theatre, if you haven't been.) Get tickets and join us and Ben H. Allen to celebrate...
Yacht Rock reappears this week for our Surprise Party. You know the drill by now. We're gonna be giving away 3 pairs of tickets to the next Yacht Rock, shwag from our friend Ella Guru CD's in Decatur, and a whole boatload of smoothness. Come dressed appropriately and we all win...

we set a record for y o u busy-ness in the last couple of weeks. long stories very short:
we backed up emily kate boyd for her sold-out cd release @ eddie’s attic. the dark sunday morning album joni mitchell never made, you can get the live tracks from emily’s myspace.
we backed up big mike from kingsized and francine reed at an atlanta fashion show.
we laid down five songs worth of horns for our new record.
i’ve spent three days in indiana working on a new documentary film about my dad’s crazy rock concert, the magical history tour.
we backed up our buddies crawford, brian, and tim for a night of g-lee produced lovin and petty tomfoolery at last thursday’s surprise party.
the thursday before that we played as limozeen. ’nuff said. the entire show is on t.dougland’s youtube page. now that’s a lot of views...
TOMORROW NIGHT: the indie rock transformers return with three of atlanta’s finest AV-system-usin’ bands: the lord is my shotgun, warm in the wake, and (now of nashville) harrison hudson. nicholas (me) will be opening the show with some new y o u tunes on solo acoustic guitar with harmonicas.
also, i’ll take requests. the idea is to get some folks in the room early and drinking some drinks, especially since several of us will be coming from the private acoustic whigs appearance at an undiscolosed location and looking to hear (and make) some more acoustic beautifulness. see you tomorrw night fools...
ESPN e-mailed us last minute and asked to use "Second Chance" for a college basketball highlight reel during today’s programming on ESPNews. The coolest thing is that Dick Vitale even does some voice-over at the end - we’re diaper dandies, baby!!! I guess it’s an appropriate tune for the Big Dance, considering we’ll all dance...
SOUTHERN ROCK FOR ENGLISH NICK tonight, featuring a guest appearance by Jeff Carlisi of .38 Special. Be a part of the magic, and help Nick out with outrageous hospital bills. I interviewed him on camera today for some video footage tonight, and I also got to speak with his alter-ego Nicola Aeriola... a fascinating lady. See you all tonight, go watch sports highlights...
