A New Focus
Current mood: adventurous

Greetings Po Boy Fans, supporters, endorsers, and just plain old junkies! 

I wanted to drop in today to let everyone know about the new focus we are looking at with the company! 

Many of you know, and many do not, that we have had horrific expieriences getting our goods through customs.  While it is largely bad luck in both of the last cases, we do need to take steps to assure that these things will not hold us back in the future.  It is with great excitement that we look to the future of Po Boy Drums as a true made in the USA Custom Drum house.  While we are still in the research phase of looking into this, it is looking like we will be able to offer our drums custom built at the same basic prices as the imports!  The connections we have made and support of some of the local suppliers is making this possible for us!  To all of you that have contributed to this...we cannot thank you enough! 

We will be making a limited run of hand built kits as a test run in the upcoming months.  We already have a lot of folks looking at this option, so it is looking like the turn time will be around 4-6 months per kit...but they will be true custom. 

For those of you who have been waiting for us to kick in the custom program again...please e-mail us at custom@poboydrums.com to get a quote!  We will be working with same species shells such as Birch and Maple, as well as hybrid shells of various models that we are pretty excited about!  All shells will be offered in standard lamination as well as in our Air sealed shells that Po Boy is fast becoming known for!  We can accomodate almost an size you can imagine, and will hand finish all of the drums in a limited number of finishes.  We have also teamed up with some very exclusive suppliers of artisan shells to offer more and more options to those of you wanting them!  Finally...we will be offering custom made wood hoops again...in a ton of different styles!

SORRY FOR THE DELAY ON GETTING THE WORD OUT!  WE HAVE HAD A CHAOTIC YEAR SO FAR AND ARE REALLY JUST TRYING TO CATCH UP!

PROGRESS1

The Cymbals are coming...the cymbals are coming! 

After a very long year and a very tough time getting a non-disclosure from the factory we are now in the production phase of the cymbals!  We have a shipment that is due to arrive in early December now available for pre-arrival. 

We ahve a few of the cymbals recorded and can send sound bytes for a few cymbals, namely the Fine China series.  Shoot us a message with your E-mail and we will send them on out! 

The Cymbals: 

Fine China

This is our pride and joy, featuring some pro line cymbals most similar to the dark series of other brands.  While they are darker, they are more complex and tend to shine through the mix the way they need to.  For instance, they are brighter when they need to be, and they are also dark when they need to be depending on what else is going on in the mix.  Every Fine China cymbal is hand buffed and brilliant.  Made exclusively of B20 bronze, all of these cymbals are hand cast, hand hammered, and completely hand made in the oldes cymbal factory in the world.  We love them! 

10" splash, 12" Splash, 14" Thin crash, 16" Crash, 18" Crash, 20" medium ride, 20" Crystal Ride, 22" Crystal Ride, 14' Hi Hats, 13" Dry Hats

Atmospheres Dusk Series

A much darker, partially unlathed cymbal that is all about being dark and dry.  Very dark woody, earthy tones are excellent for a huge range of music.  Preferred for jazz and blues, but definitely suited to rock, bluegrass, and much more.  All B20 Bronze, all hand made and hand hammered, and very very cool looking without a doubt!

Atmospheres Dark Series

Another incarnation of the Atmospheres series, the Dark models are completely hand made, hand hammered B20 Bronze that has been left in its natural, unlathed state.  Very Earthy and dry, and very rusic looking cymbals that are coal fired for their distinctive Dark look and sound.  Even without their lathing, these cymbals take about twice as long as others to make...so they will be very limited.  We are quite excited about this series for its broad spectrum of sound and of course...the wow factor.

Koi Series

A very cool looking cymbal.  A radial circular lathing pattern gives these cymbals the appearance of fish scales.  They are polished to a brilliant shine, and are unhammered b20 bronze.  The pattern of lathing is very complicted, and is turned by hand by only the most expierienced cymbal smiths.  We will be introducing additional models very rarely as the process of refining the sound is very complicated and takes a lot of time to perfect.  While these cymbals in this style have been made for some time, Po boy Drums is proud to say that we took the time to refine the sound.  Both the splash and the hi hats are ultra crisp and very very bright.  Very Limited initial production.

LIDS: 

We initially had this name flagged for a beginner series of cymbals, but opted to stay out of the beginner series game and concentrate on more pro-level gear.  We have now re shifted the Lids series to include a complete line of effects cymbals to add color and grit to your set up.  Here are a few of the up coming releases: 

LIDS Series Splish.  The name says it all.  A small china modeled cymbal that is very fast, very bright and crisp, and has a unique splish sound.  The secret is the unique bell shape and the thinner construction.  Our product testers went absolutely nuts over these!  8", 10", 12" Sizes. 

LIDs series Dirty Disks:  A thinner, more modern version of a traditional china.  Very thin, and brightly polished with a flatt western style bell.  The thinner casting makes these much faster and more responsive than a traditional china, and the sound is really...well...dirty and gritty.  Fast decay, and huge projection!  15', 17", 18", 20" Sizes

JIMMIE-C SERIES RE RELEASE

PO BOY DRUMS JIMMIE-C SERIES RE-RELEASE!

The 2007 release of the Po Boy Drums Jimmie-C series far exceeded our expectations!  when we originally released this series as a limited production re release the response out there was unbelievable! 

We will be releaseing two more runs of this series before the end of the year, with a total production of 20 sets per run!   The next run is due to arrive in Colorado at the beginning of September, and to our surprise there are only a few left that are not already spoken for!  with this being said, we will be receiving more over the next couple of weeks and are releasing them for pruchase now for the general public.  As a further bonus, these sets will come with a complete bombastic hardware pack at no additional charge...which is the first time we have released these unbelievable drums as a complete package! 

The first release of these drums will include 8 sets total, 4 each in natural Kokko finish and Classic Walnut Gloss finishes in standard size configurations.  The price with the free hardware pack will be 799.99 plus shipping.  Colorado residents may pick up for no additional shipping fees, but must pay a 4.6% colorado sales tax!

Po Boy Limited Releases...Here They is!

A.M.Y. CUSTOM WALNUT SERIES: 

Walnut is one of the most luxurious woods in the world.  It is featured on some of the worlds most expensive furniture, inside of luxury cars, and decks out mega resorts.  It is also unbelievable in its tone.  We like to say it is the baddest mother on the block!  Big, deep tones that are rich and sensitive.  Versatility is there too...go from a jazz gig in the afternoon to a metal gig in the wee hours without a hitch. 

The downfall?  It is very hard to get this wood in the grade we need.  With this being said...we will only be offering 16 kits total in 3 different configurations.  This wood has been curing since February...and is ready for production as of this week. 

All of the kits will remain on pre-arrival through September 20th.  As an added bonus, we will be giving away a free 12" x 5.5" Natural Maple Popcorn snare with every pre-order!  This special is good through the 20th of September only!
