Update 2008
it is the day after st patrick’s and i am resting up after 3 nights of seeing the pogues. it seems to be an annual tradition, and an envy-inspiring one at that. but if you lived in nyc and experienced its gradual decline in arts, culture music, clubs, people and generally all things of good quality the past 10 years, you’d be sympathetic, i think. shane was in great from, looks healthier then he has in the past 10 years. he was up and dancing this time! so each night they closed with fairytale of new york. they did most of my favorite songs and it was such a treat to see them, i’ve loved them since i was a 13 year old squatter. i met some cool people at the show, too.
at the end of february through the begining of march i went to mexico city again, which was wonderful. i had been wanting to go and could not get away last year, and there was a last-minute flight in a price range i could afford so i said fuck it, i need to get out of nyc. lucha beckoned, among other things. the match of the year, hijo del perro aguayo contra hector garza was scheduled for the first night i arrived. but since it was so big and i did not really plan ahead it was sold out by the time my 3 hours delayed flight got there. not to be dismayed, i managed to get to 5 nights of lucha libre in my 13 days and 12 nights there. as you can see in my pic, there were photo-ops with luchadors. i also have a pic with mr. aguila where i look like a zombie and he is all sweaty post-match, but i need to scan it. i went to frida kahlo’s blue house in coyoacan (again!) and some other museums. i saw hummersqueal (hi salvitore!) at a showcase, they’re talented guys! i went to see dagger and dammas and el diablo and a few other interesting bands at the alicia, which i am told is mexico city’s cbgb’s (at least there’s still one somewhere!) with a alice in wonderland flair. it was right next to two strip clubs, one with dudes and one with chicks. i kept wanting to yell "take it off" at people but i did not want to embarass kike, and some woule not have nown what i was saying. we went to veggie taco, my favorite place to eat in mexico city, and had delicious mock meat dishes which my stomach is yearing for.
i stayed with and subsequently got to spend lots more time with my friend spike/kike (hi sweetie!) than last time. this made me incredibly happy. he’s my favorite guy! and an excellent host. i miss him lots and can’t wait to see him again.
last week i went to b-day lunch with my best friend maria, whom i had not seen in awhile. it was so terrific to see her and spend some time with her. we had yummy healthy food at tiengarden on allen off houston, a vegan asian fusion place that is yummy even for meat eaters! i will definitely not let so much time go by without seeing her again.
the sideshow starts next weekend. there is still some uncertainty about the cast but we definitely have some excellent performers confirmed. i am psyched about this season, i think this year everyone is gonna really step up and that the bossman will be more involved. which is good, we missed him. i’ve expanded my repetoire to bed of nails and light contortion to be of more use on my inside days. this week i’ve been trying to get firecracker, the little bastard baby snake, ready for the season. but he is a wild one and it is tough. i’ve been bitten twice! i am excited about burlesque at the beach this year, lucha muerte 3 will be awesome. all-around great performer and new sideshow star nic sin will be in it this year. yay! (hi nic)
soon i’m buying a laptop and hopefully can get some tech help setting it up. my lack of access has been quite frustrating, i really can’t deal.
that’s it from the weird wild world of dillon (aka remy vicious) for now. hope you guys are well.

Independants 2 second Cameo!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tXnvZgIlkw
At exactly 1:22 in the video, It's a younger, less tattooed platnium blonde version of me at CBGB (R.I.P) seeing The Independants play. Ronnie Spector and Joey Ramone (R.I.P.) went on later that night. It was the last time anyone saw Joey Ramone alive at CBGB, as a matter of fact.
Joey's not in the video, but he did manage this band, who are a really good horror-punk-ska ensemble. Check their profile out on myspace. This is the video for their song Death Notice.
Brought to my attention by Heavy B studios. Thanks Pete!
Why should I call your attention to a 2 second clip in an obscure video? Believe me, there may be more forthcoming. I'm in the Toilet Boys video Another Day In The Life as a cheerleader, some Deviant Behavior videos and lots of weird punky shit and sundry artsy and sometimes very crass crap. I miss S.C.U.M.-rock. That's an acronym for Social Conscious Underground Music, if'n ya didn't know.
*sigh* I miss certain people and to some extent "the scene", but there were lots of assholes, egos, users, rip-off promoters, sociopaths, drama kings and queens, nazi bouncers, wanna-bes, washed-ups, liars, date-rapers, fake-lesbian misogynists, women-hating homos, cock-rock cretins, and hot but unremittingly destructive crazy chicks.
*Ahem* Again, why??? It's kind of like the 3 second pose thing that Edge and Christian used to do when they were a tag team (and somehow they were collectively less obnoxious then they are respectively). But I digress....
I'm a cunt.
Watch or die!

Sensational Sherri Martel Winebath Memorial
So as some of you may know, last year my Burlesque At The Beach was Lucha Libre themed. And as some of you may know, this year it is indeed Lucha Muerte Atomicos- Dos! I am a big Lucha Libre fan, the acrobatics, the style, the flair... But as a little girl growing up I loved the WWF, especially the bad guys. Heel Rowdy Roddy Piper, evil Macho Man Randy Savage, bad guy Undertaker... And I wanted to grow up to be a combination of Cyndi Lauper and "Scary" "Sensational" Sherri Martel. Because there has never been and there never will be a better Heel Manager/Valet. The former women's champ was one tough cookie, and what style she had! She exuded that meritricious glamour, that ostentatious glee, that tough and tender impishness she brought to her character still brings such warmth and fondness to my heart, to this very day. I was and am in awe, she was my fantasy fairy godmother, with scandalous gowns and gloves and heels (stiletto off the top rope!) and crazy sparkly theatrical makeup. And yes indeed, I will chime in in accord with the 2006 WWE Hall Of Fame audience, "You're still hot!" Too young and fierce and beautiful to go so soon...
I've posted a bulletin that went a little bit into how much Sherri Martel means to me...
My first Burlesque At The Beach, *Pirates Of Pulchritude And Sultry Sirens* took place the same year as the passing of Hasil Adkins, so I had a HUNCH of a time having the Hasil Adkins Mermorial Winebath and having Hasil's friend and pallbearer Joe Coleman drink wine from my boobs.
My "Bloodbath"/Sangria bath from last year will not be recreated this year, nor will the virgin sacrifices that I had in mind, and I do hope they (the virgins) won't be too disappointed. Because this one's for Sherri, the woman who made the prospect of "growing up" into a significantly less horrific prospect for one weird little girl, the best bad role model a gal could ever have, and I'm the only one in the tub. I'd like to think she'll be smiling down, appreciating the bawdy burly-q tribute to honor her inimitable, incredible self.
R.I.P. Sensational Scary Sista Sherri Martel. I love you!

yippie!
Current mood: optimistic
looks like i'm going back to sideshows by the seashore next season. i am so glad to be going back, whatever is required, i'll do it. door wench, fill in performer.... i'm game!
for those that do not know, the of summer 2007 is astroland's last season. it is very sad, as it's where i went when i was a little girl for grand adventure and happy times in an underprivileged childhood and it has so many special memories.... i love it's ghetto, tawdry carny splendor in ways i am incapable of articulating. coney island, it is unique unto itself, a very important place in the u.s.a. with a magnificent, complicated and tragic history and present. astroland is a big part of that, and i can not stand to think of it being torn down by people who are unable to appreciate it, it's a piece of my soul and essence. i am a brooklyn native and i've worked in coney island on and off since i was just 16. hell, my grandfather worked in coney island, it's a huge part of my life...
but last year many thought it would be our last season ever, and it's no deathbed reprieve, sideshows by the seashore is a valuable institution and it is even recognized by the city of new york! so the sideshow, along with the cyclone and (i believe) deno's wonderwheel, will still be there, even though everything else will start being ripped up (i think the go karts already have begun being torn up, wah!) after the 2007 season.
so yes, the heart and soul of the artistic and creative community with it's own very carny realness will still be there. the mermaid parade, the sideshow, the coney island museum, the indy film fest, the creepshow at the freakshow, the sideshow school, all of these wonderful things will stay. i am so happy! there will be some tough times, but there is a future.
mahalo!

Happy Birthday to me!!!!!
Here's to living long enough to start having to lie about my age again....
I drank quite a bit at the Womanizer film exhibition, which was amazing. World Famous *Bob* and Bunny Luv put on some titilating and thought-provoking burly-q, and Viva Knievel's Monja Satanica/Sister Satan is a tella novella (sp?) that I am just dying to see the next sexy instillation of... Joe Coleman's short was a real blast from the past, hahaha, and of course I conferred with him afterwards about my piece "You're The Fucking Terrorist" which will get me banned at a burlesque event and venue near you, someday... I also drank quite a bit afterwards at dinner with Bambi, Whitney and Joe, and new friend Eric. Good times.
For friends that will see me later and in their generosity try to buy me a b-day drink, thanks, but no thank you. I am STILL drunk and sick from the amount of tequila I imbibed last night, puked and lost my gloves in an inebriated cab ride (and I ALWAYS take the train home, ask anyone, so I was wasWASTED!) and I don't think I need anymore. Of course I am working at Dirty Bomb and probably heading to Duff's afterwards, where there will be liquor and temptation... So people, get your spliffs ready, I wanna smoke! Hahaha!
Oh, in more Happy B-day to me news, I'd like to give a warm welcome to new cyber friend and living Goddess the incomparable Miss Tura Satana....

Viva Mexico City!
Yes, I have finally procured my round-trip plane tickets, and am slated to depart New York on November 30 and return December 8th. I decided on Mexico City because there is so much about it that intrigues me, the overall mystique, the birthplace of one of my favorite painters Frida Kahlo, the cabaret, the Lucha Libre, the open markets, the Sante Muerte statue, the pyramids, mountains and (gasp!) active volcano!
Part of Lebanon is bordered by mountains, I believe it's the region my family comes from. There are allegedly a band of mystics that reside in the mountains. Speaking of family, my great auntie Barbra just paid me a surprise visit. She'd taken her sister to Lebanon while she (the sister) was terminally ill, so she could visit the homeland once before she died. After the Israeli military bombed the airports, who could really assess what is left of the beautiful land? It isn't good from what I've heard. The olive trees, the tree of peace that serves a cultural and pragmatic function, has also been routinely torn up to demoralize and deny this. The Romans used to tear up and burn Druid Groves, too.... But back to auntie Barbra... she used to pretend she was Italian so the neighborhood wasn't cruel to her. She's a straight-up Irish and Lebanese mix, more apparent than I am. She has beautiful gold eyes and light carmel skin. She's a dance teacher and specializes in bellydancing. My Great-grandmother bellydanced into her 70's up till when she passed. She was awesome. Auntie Barbra was actually in the movie West Side Story as one of the backround "Spanish" dancers, (due to her complexion). She invited me to lunch, but I haven't showered and do need to run some errands, but it was a nice, albeit brief, visit.
And I am looking forward to a nice visit to Mexico City! Aside from all the local things I want to see and do, there are people I am happy I am going to get to meet in person. So for my NYC friends who worry about me traveling alone, don't. I feel I will be in good hands once I arrive. ;)
Now it's time for a shower, some yoga and a bike ride to the beach, where I will brave the rough tides again, even if only for a bit. I can always do more yoga, because beach yoga kicks your ass, it's so challenging! I'm so happy I've been getting back into it, but I know that bellydancing is calling me too, it's in my blood! I will start working at this again, too.
A good day to you all....
