The Characters
Steve– our fearless leader
The founder of SPIT, he assembled this intrepid team to achieve his life's dream: to produce scientifically verifiable evidence of paranormal activity. Steve is the straight man, the glue that holds this ragtag bunch together. He is a reasonable, practical and intelligent ghost investigator who shares the audience's point of view – we are in this world where we don't see ghosts every day, and are only willing to believe if provided with proof. Steve is a believer because he got personal proof when he and Josh had a vivid paranormal experience as teenagers, but he certainly doesn't expect anyone to believe his word – because he wouldn't.
Steve is in an unhappy marriage and is clueless that Annabeth, who he also works with at the County Morgue, holds a torch for him. He is our hero because he triumphs over his miserable life by throwing himself into his passion and in so doing leads a creative life.
Josh – the sidekick 
Steve's best friend and Kathleen's brother, Josh is basically a giant, freakishly strong and athletic puppy dog. Like a dog, he has an unusually strong sense of smell and claims he can smell spirits. Not only does he have boundless energy and enthusiasm, he is an impulsive risk-taker. More than outgoing, he is crazy about people and can sometimes overwhelm them with affection. He loves toys and gadgets, which makes paranormal investigating the perfect job for him. He sees himself as an adventurer and loves the idea of "catching" ghosts. SPIT's investigative methods sometimes makes Josh impatient, but he does his best to follow them because Steve is his hero. Josh tends to get ahead of himself, jumping to conclusions, but this sometimes results in brilliant insights. Kathleen – the psychic 
Kathleen, however, prefers to call herself "merely a guide." It's not that she is arrogant about her special abilities, it's just that she understands alternative realities others can't possibly fathom. Mixing together bits and pieces from many different faiths, practices and cultures, she often tells stories that have no meaning to anyone but her. Seeing the physical form as merely a container for the spirit, she is very comfortable talking about and touching her own and other, more reluctant bodies. She doesn't see this as being sexual, or can't understand why it makes others uncomfortable. Clients often like Kathleen better than Steve, because she validates their beliefs while Steve is the skeptic. She and Steve conflict in the fundamental ways they look at the world, but she believes she can one day persuade Steve to open up to the more spiritual aspect of ghost hunting. Josh, Kathleen's younger brother still pushes her buttons like he did when they were kids and had wrestling matches. She won those matches using telekinesis, and they still wrestle today. Annabeth – the office manager 
Annabeth is so awkward and shy it can be almost painful to watch. She is the ultimate people-pleaser, nervous and eager. Probably the smartest one in the bunch, sadly no one, herself especially, appreciates it. A self-proclaimed "Jack of all trades," Annabeth has many hobbies, including whittling, glass blowing and chemistry. As the newest member of the group, she does her best to fit in, since Steve, Josh and Kathleen grew up together. She met Steve at their job at the County Morgue, where she developed a hopeless crush. So when he seemed to need help in his new investigation business, she jumped right in. She had never done any paranormal research, but she was hooked right away. The SPIT office and files were a mess when Annabeth joined the crew; it now runs like a well-oiled machine, or would if anyone followed her efficient office systems. She is the first person the client speaks to and is in charge of research. Annabeth, or "Nibby" as Kathleen refers to her, did not have any siblings growing up, so this group has become the closest thing she has to a family. Scarlett – the homeowner 
Gentlemen callers don't come around as often as they once did, but Scarlett still makes the best of it. An award-winning beauty queen and actress, she has starred in several one-woman shows at The Backwash Theatre – in fact, it's the only place she has performed in years. She is excited to have SPIT investigate the troubling ghost sightings she has had in her house. Her fans would want to know, so it would be helpful for all concerned to publish some hard evidence. She is sure that SPIT will provide her with some tantalizing video or audio recordings.
