Get our 22-song final album for free

Yup! Since we arn't playing anymore, we might as well just give it away. Besides, none of the songs are ours anyways, so how could we rightfully sell them!?

Just send us a message with your address and you'll get the 22-song CD in the mail as soon as we get around to it! We'll cover the postage as long as you live in the good old Unites States. If you live anywhere else, sucks to be you!

rich people vs. The Professional Superheroes
Current mood: annoyed
Category: Music

Those with money are those with power, and we're broke.
Last night at Arts Alive, someone called Old Town security to make us stop playing our music. A permit is required to do anything out of the ordinary, and we certainly didn't get one. "Permits are $30," says the rental cop, "and insurance is $300."
We already knew all this, but we were hoping that since we were on a street that no one uses during Arts Alive, we wouldn't be bothering anyone (at least, not anyone that has money and power.) Apparently we were wrong.
So it costs $330 to excercise our rights to free speech in a public place, not to mention that we also have to get permission from those in power (Eureka Main Street.) I have a feeling that the founders of this country would be apalled and outraged that a price tag has been put on the right to free speech.

The sad truth is, that as long as everyone in our society is content enough with their lives (television helps a lot), people won't care enough to demand their basic constitutional rights. And slowly but surely, our rights will continue to be taken away from us.

I'd stage a protest, but I'm pretty sure that we'd have to get a permit and insurance.

The Unsettling Future of TPS: Countdown to Doom, 2007
Category: Music

Citizens of the world, behold!
A yet-to-be-declared forced is planning the ultimate destruction of The Professional Superheroes! "NOOooooo...." When will this destruction occur...? We have intelligence reports that state the following: "The Professional Superheroes will be destroyed no later than this June, 2007" Yes, it is sad but true, and we have already begun to accept our sad, disgusting fate.
In the meantime, we plan on finishing our double album (we have 24+ songs), taking two short tours (one to SF, one to WA), putting out our final shirt design, and of course, playing as many good shows as possible.
I know this may come as shocking and horrifying news to some of you, but do not despair! You will have many more chances to see us in the upcoming months. If you must, please post your "no, don't die!" / "you still suck" comments on this blog.
Justice lives on!

In memory of Logan Whitehurst and the Junior Science Club
Current mood: sad

Brace yourself.

Many of you (hopefully) are aquainted with the music of Logan Whitehurst, either through his Jr. Science Club recordings or the Velveteen or one of the other many bands he has played with or the songs of his that we cover ("Volcanoes," "When Werewolves Colide," "The Villian Who Wears No Pants"). Just a few days ago, he passed away due to a cancer that was eating his brain and the world is a worse place because of it. I urge you all listen to the man's music as often as you can and let his genius live on through your ears.

CLICK HERE to either discover Logan's music or pay your respects.

I found out about Logan from El Blanco Niño and was completely blown away by the sheer awesomeness of it. For those of you who haven't heard the album "Goodby My 4-Track," immagine the best possible children's musician of all time writing an album for adults. Every song sounds completely different and in every respect--instrumentally, lyrically, thematically--each song is a masterpiece. And I mean EVERY song on the album. Not nearly every song. Not almost all the songs and one that kinda sucks. But EVERY SINGLE SONG.

Most "comedy" musicians write music that is funny (or maybe just kinda funny) but isn't all that great (for reference, listen to about every parody-ist other than Weird Al). Very few musicians can write music that is not just silly, but hillarious on multiple levels AND musically brilliant. Whether its singing about plate tectonics ("Volcanoes"), planetary domination via robotic felines ("Robot Cat"), or pet store escape artists ("Lizard and Fish") his music melds science, humor, and intricately constructed tunes together to create a musical experience that only gets better with repeated listenings.

Superfly and I were talking about Logan tonight (before I found out that he died) and about how incredible his music is. He is one of those musicians who made you thankful for the fact that you have ears and makes you want to make as much music as is possible in the hopes that it makes at least one person as happy as Logan's music makes you. This is the reason why ProHeroes is covering about half a dozen of his songs. Every time we hear one of his songs, it reminds us not just why we cover his music, but why we play music in the first place.

--The Admiral, Rashaad Jones

P.S.: A few favorite lyrics to turn your sorrow into joy

"Every time you tie your shoes/Everytime you put on your hat/Every time that you wash your face, it matters/Every time you simply go outside/It means a very great deal"

"...this way we both get a good night's sleep and wake up rested and without any lower backpain or the need to think for ourselves..."

"There was a bag of nuts and bolts and screws/It didn't say which screwdriver to use/I don't know what the radiation warning's about/But that's okay, I can figure it out"

"T-E-C-T-O-N-I-C/the plates are moving under me/the mountain used to be a sea/geothermal energy"

"Aaron (give me some respect), you're only here because of me (I'm such a hero, Aaron, they'll name a street after me)/and if I hadn't grabbed your hand, you'd have washed out to sea"
