MP3 ALBUM DOWNLOAD OF ’MOON EMPEROR’ at CDBABY(for $8/£4)
MP3 ALBUM DOWNLOAD OF ’MOON EMPEROR’ at CDBABY
The MOON EMPEROR album is now available for mp3 full album download for $8 /£4 /5euro at CDBaby .
Indie music champions CDBaby have allowed artists to set their own price for ALL of their music. This is another great step for independent musicians and CDBaby because it means greater control and benefit for artists and also that major corporate labels who generally take large percentages and generally charge more are being undercut and thus the marketed stranglehold of mainstream media is slightly lessened .
This has become a reality through the factor of low overheads for all parties. In the digital domain obviously the absence of physical product is a big plus and also the lack of neccessity for traditional advertising and marketing by CDBaby makes their costs small whilst the shear number of artists working with them makes their takings greater.
I think CDBaby have definately got their head screwed on right, i have often wondered why a digital distributer has to take 50% of an mp3 sale, and the answer is ...they don’t. Indie artists connected with CDBaby promote themselves and as a consequence promote CDBaby who in return take a much smaller percentage than ANY other digital distributers do from the artist. This means we can decide that the listener pays less and we can still roughly get the same .( Although i did first set my album price at £5,000 but later reconsidered.....!) So if you want to get indie music you know where to go to save some wonga.
Symbiosis......

WHEN LIFE NEARLY DIED
Current mood: a slight itch on the left ankle
It has now been established beyond any doubt that for the first time in the history of mankind, human activity is responsible for the global endangerment of the environment. The questions of how this has come to be have been widely discussed, and are essential in forming strategies for action, but the answers to the question of fundamental causation I feel have not been fully clarified . The answers have understandably been overshadowed by the immediate necessity for educating the actions of the populace, for example individual responsibility towards the environment. Which is necessary.
But it is also necessary that we look seriously at the ideals that formed our previous actions , the actions that resulted in this situation. To say that each individual is responsible for the combined problem we face is correct.
Still the question must be asked ; what forms and influences our behaviour as regards consumption in the material world ?
Having existed for 200 000 years as homo sapiens why only in the past 60 or so years have people, and particularly importantly, 'westernised' people caused such a catastrophe?
When we look at the development and ascendancy of capitalist consumerism we can see a direct parallel with the increasing damage caused to our environment. It is the ideals of this form of capitalism that is properly responsible for irresponsibly jeopardising the existence and quality of life on the earth. These private organisations have acted separately from society but exploitatively and at its great expense, solely for the exclusive and vast benefit of their members.
And this system has allowed it to happen, and is now dominated by those with financial, but not ethical power.
Government although imperfect, was the forum in which the rights and prospects of ALL people were addressed. It has seeded power to corporations who are prejudiced in favour of a small but extremely wealthy minority, whose agenda is entirely selfish in nature. This is the fundamental cause of environmental catastrophe (and of course recent wars), the existence of a the corporate agenda , a powerful force of irresponsibility that has achieved the creation of a reckless consumer society through mass media and destructive exploitative mass manufacture for the goal of absolute power. The world is shaped in this form when power and authority belong to those who have no competence or aptitude for such position and have no wish to be responsible but merely wish to hold that position for it's own sake.
Why is there in this age still an ethical imperative that allows those with material wealth to be granted superiority and influence over those with less material wealth?
It is time for a thorough re-evaluation of values, we cannot afford (in a more meaning full sense) to be without the benefit of certain people in our society such as health workers and teachers and it is another symptom of corporate influence that these positions are undervalued, whilst the ability to accumulate and exploit large amounts of capital grants one high position.
If we are serious about tackling climate change and also if we wish to live in a fair world with a minimum of suffering, we have to address the true cause, the immature manifestation of the base drives of the human psyche, the large problem that has become lodged in the midst of our true natures. Capitalism may stay but must be heavily amended This SHOULD be the main objective of our generation.
That someone should gain reward for their efforts is not in question, but in the finite world of currency there simply is no right for such segregated unbridled abundance of profit, as this necessarily comes at the expense of many other's well being. A global cap on profits would be a start, with a stitching up of loopholes. As the present setup threatens our future existence, we must with haste go about making changes and demanding the right to determine our own existence and status as being equal to that of all humans regardless of wealth.
The link between consumer capitalism and environmental destruction has of course been made but the truth is that it is the fundamental CAUSE of environmental destruction, it has worked through us of all, whether we have known it or not, and has, even in the face of indisputable scientific evidence attempted to prolong and even increase activities which the profiteers were aware would cause catastrophe.
The US president only 3 years ago stated that his country (the highest polluting nation) would not differ in its consideration of the environment, because 'it is not certain whether or not human activity is to blame for global warming' which is the propaganda of the guilty, actually saying he was prepared to gamble and if it turned out bad, it would turn out really bad. We can't afford to be at the mercy of such dangerous, careless and corporately prejudiced views.
No other generation has encountered such a time as this, It is an amazing victory of propaganda that this seems for some to be just a subject, when it is in fact an object that requires immediate movement by all of us.
Before we were told we could have it all we were quite happy with enough. Now enough is too much.

MORE IMPROPAGANDA
Category: Pets and Animals
The rise of neoconservatives was marked by further media coverage of David Horowitz .In an interview given to Danish journalist Clement Behrendt Kjersgaard, Horowitz stated that the governments of Syria and Iran must be 'destroyed ', adding that the reason Iraq has not been what could be called a success is because there should have been half a million troops sent over . He went on to say that the 'dropping of neuclear bombs upon Japan in WW2 was the best thing that could have happened for the world'. He expressed the view that muslims were sick, siting the actions of fundamentalists - beheadings and desecration of Buhdist monuments, overtly suggesting that domination is the only course of action to defeat what he percieves as a huge threat not just to America but to Europe as well, who he believes behaves like a spoilt child in that it will not raise an army to rise up and defeat this evil enemy , instead Europe hides behind USA and as in the 2 world wars expects to be bailed out and liberated by the USA whilst indulging in left wing critisism of the USA. He remarked that this era shared similarities with 1938 and spoke of his concern over the possibilities of a 'nasty' fascist leader acheiving power through manipulation of a mass of people who are unable to have 'sophisticated' debate.
You could be forgiven for thinking that he is refering to himself in the last comment.
From his unlikely begginings as a communist David Harowitz has undergone a complete transformation - bordering on the wilfully perverse - perhaps driven by a personal event that has sent him off on a crusade, which would be fine if it did not entail the neccessity for other people's destruction.
A mistake i beleive he is making (deliberately?!) is to assume that the Islamic world, if left alone from outside involvement and invasion would intrinsically pose, and seek to pose a real danger to the existance of the western world . We likely would have lived in a continued global and cultural segregation until one or other of us evolved ! But this segregation has been brocken by the USA in order(we must be honest) to persue it's own imperial agenda , the wasps nest has been disturbed so to speak and we now live with the consequences of these actions.
I'm not sure how someone who endorses the use of neuclear weapons (knowing what this means to the innocent men women and children killed and also those effected for generations after) can make an accusation of moral superiority labeling anybody sick whilst endorsing mass sickness. Terrorists are in the tiny minority and those that exist, it can be argued do so because of American overseas aggression and ignorance of foreign cultures. His inflamatory retoric focuses on the guilty minority and exposes the vast majority to the threat of anihilation because of the actions of the few. There is not space to go into the attrocities of US govt foreign actions, which would make USA worthy of destruction based on it's own criteria.
Europe as Horowitz seems to overlook, has for better or worse been established on over 2000 years of war but undeniably on the misdeads of that past it is truthfull to say, that we now have a deeper understanding of the value of peace and generally the maturity to seek diplomacy . It has been the work of EU diplomacy that has given us a more possitive footing with Iran . If there is, as has been demonstrated, the possibility of peace with reasonable terms then it must be sought , otherwise we have to question the value of always aggressively upping the anti and pushing for war, and if we question it we find the answer is (as it was in Europe 200 years ago ) about adding to the value of the empire. Unfortunatly Mr Harowitz would like to be that dangerous (but powerfull) character he professes concern over, as he himself attempts to manipulate an 'unsophisticated masses' with this propaganda.
I am in favour of freedom of speach , but in the present climate it has become clear that these signs of overt propaganda and media manipulation have seriously undermined and hi-jacked democracy. If David Horowitz is in a possition to speak on behalf of people (some people ) then we must all begin to speak for ourselves.

Untied States
Current mood: persisting resisting
Outside of the U.S in places of soft(er) control, slightly more light is shed on events concerning U.S govt. activities. When I meet relatively broad minded Americans they are shocked at coverage of their country, for example the coverage of the aftermath of the hurricane from New Orleans and the surrounding area, not to mention the alternative truth regarding the world trade centre. The achievements of propaganda are wide ranging , 'none are more hopelessly enslaved than those who believe they are free' seems particularly poiniant today.
A distinction must be drawn between the corporate elite /govt.hierarchy and the American people .The govt. should not be considered American as they fail to embody the ideals of the American people as set down by their constitution, they are in reality a parasite on the population which gained power through a coup.
..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The population as the host, is being exploited for it's energy.Corporations have identified and developed the representation of energy by money and use this method to subtract the population's energy in the form of currency.
It is then used to persue the agendas of the elite,in this case the 'New American Century' .Which means of course that your energy is used to kill and oppress .
As a means of preventing this, it is desirable to push for a change in constitution which in times of potential conflict would require the consent of the population by vote before the undertaking of any major military activity . In this time the internet can also be utilised making this proposal realistic .
But as the corporate/military/industrial complex has a wide reach into so called 'democracy' this proposal might be presently un achievable, therefore another means of assuaging the totalitarian agenda is necessary.
This involves direct confrontation by the people against the ruling minority regarding the miss-use of the nation's wealth and institutions. In this system of currency representation of energy, we should understand that the means of dissent lies not in energy but in currency. The form of this dissent can best be achieved through organised mass with-holding of taxes or the threat of such action. When we recognise that the systems that are supposed to represent us have been high-jacked it becomes of concern to find other available methods in order to curtail the the ebb of our liberty. To paraphrase a comment made in 2003 regarding Bush's attempt to gain support for invading " Iraq made by (oddly?) director of the (libertarian)Cato Institute;
'The problem is that Germany and France have weak governments and if they go against the will of the population they have to pay the political cost.'
We must insist upon proper representation so that one day in the distant future all individuals might represent themselves within a compatable society .
The worst atrocity of corporate capitalism is undoubtably the knowing destruction of the environment . For more than 50 years we have known or had some inkling of the effects of mass production and mass consumerism which is in extricably linked to the profit motive which in turn serves the corporate undemocratic power structure.
In the face of this knowledge the degradation only increased . This side of humanity must be purged if we are to offer the other life forms and ourselves any kind of future.
But even if it were not the case that the environment was being damaged and that we were being taken to war for profits ,I would still find the mechanisms of modern urban society dull and stifling, grey and lifeless and devoid of natural vitality and the abstract. A uniformity of time and space that offers little to the possibilities of human evolution.

Pilgrim Speakeasy – Moon Emperor | ..>..>

This review was done by prog specialists - Music Street Journal ,i thank Gary for his honesty and for working so hard to tie these freaky pieces in to the progessive rock domain - tenuous , but at the same time palpable ! I call it evolution !

Overall Review | ..>..>

Prog purists will probably not embrace this as progressive rock, but as experimental and creative as it is, I think it qualifies. You won't hear a lot of traditional prog here – although the names King Crimson and Pink Floyd (and a couple others might come to mind) but the melding of funk sounds with world music and hard rock into a celebration of musical exploration qualifies it as progressive rock in my book. I like this disc a lot – and if you give it a chance, you probably will, too. For more information or to order the disc, check out the myspace profile. | ..>..>

Track by Track Review | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Radiators: Shakers begin this and then other instruments join in a tentative sort of arrangement. It powers up into a funky sort of arrangement that is both psychedelic and prog-like in its approach. It drops later to a percussive sort of tribal rap. Still further along we get a more straight rock approach that takes it forward to the reprise of the earlier modes. This one is an uplifting sort of '60's influenced hippie music with more experimentation in the mix. An exceptionally tasty guitar solo makes its appearance amidst the vocals near the end of the track. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
The Experiment: A bluesy acoustic rock mode leads this one off. The cut moves out into a weird sort of jazzy excursion that is quite cool. All sorts of textures and sounds merge and coalesce on this unique piece. There is some killer guitar work swirling around the top of much of the later portions of the track. A full-on prog break takes it over later with some rather Yes-like lines of melody. It drops to acapella at points. This is a killer track. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Impropaganda: Here we get a psychedelic number that is more hard rocking in texture. This one might be a bit odd from a prog rock perspective, but I don't think many out there would dispute it being included in that genre. It drops into a more gentle, retro sounding segment later in an interesting twist. It explodes back out later into its earlier modes with more reckless abandon and unchecked power. Still that's not the final word as this works its way out into a more laid back movement that feels just a small amount like Marillion, Pink Floyd and Hawkwind all rolled into one. One final reprise of the final themes ends this in fine fashion. This is another strong piece of music. It is one of my favorite tunes on show here. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Afrodesiac: An acoustic ballad approach is the order of the day as this song enters. This little jam would have felt at home on the Hair soundtrack way back in the day. It has a lot of that "age of Aquarius" texture. It is reborn into a hard edged neo-prog sort of jam, still rather odd in its delivery – but in a good way. Then a new acoustic rock soloing mode takes it. The mellow hippie sounds and more heavy textures alternate in terms of control of the track and this is another highlight. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Vibrations: Percussion and world music meets space keys and other sounds on this odd mix. Various sampled spoken snippets weave in and out over the course of the track. Even laughter shows up. At times distorted vocals come in. Then other types of music (crunchy guitar riffs, world music progressions) come across the top here and there. While this one is quite strange, it's also really cool and one of the standouts. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Jack and Jill: Playful keyboard sounds lead this off. Eventually it kicks into an R & B infused sort of jam that calls to mind Parliament Funkadelic quite a bit. The smoking female vocal line on this is so tasty. This is one of the most one-dimensional pieces of music – and the least prog – of the disc, but it's still quite strong. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Black Mind: A quick bass sound is heard and then the music launches in with a weird King Crimson goes reggae kind of element. The vocals remind me a lot of Jack Bruce's in Cream. There are some spoken (but not really rapped) lines in this mix. It even turns rather metallic, but in a '60's sort of way at points, and I even hear a little Hendrix mixed in with Parliament at times. This is my favorite piece of music on the whole disc. It's a killer. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Lev': Here the funk shows up in earnest. Between the guitar and bass sounds, this one is purely funkilicious. After this introduction the focus comes onto a great retro keyboard sound – that is again quite funky. This is another that feels a lot like Parliament – but really wasn't Parliament almost progressive funk? This is another highlight. It moves through a lot of changes, but never loses sight of its soul and spirit. Still, the triumphant jam later truly brings in the progressive rock sounds. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Moon Emperor: The title track opens with a slow ballad approach and brushed percussion. The gentleness here is a nice break from the furor of the number before – and some of the guitar work feels a bit like some of Robert Fripp's more sedate moments. The King Crimson comparisons are valid in more than one way as this winds up exploding into one of the most dramatic and chaotic passages on the whole album. Varying segments appear from nowhere and run through then leave again. If this ain't prog I don't know what is. It's a heck of a ride, but a little too busy for a lowly music journalist to document in too much detail. Suffice it to say that it returns to the modes that started it for its final outing. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Minions: This has a more stripped down approach and lots of funk in the arrangement. It's not one of my favorites, but it's solid nonetheless. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
Metal Dragon/BNG: A bluesy, somewhat off-kilter acoustic mode leads this off, but there are other sounds that bring a bit of variety to the mix. After a showing of vocals in a few lines this shifts out to a powerful funky sort of hard rocking mode. This turns towards a T-Rex sort of sound later in a glam rock abandon. It's another winner. | ..>..>
..>
..>
| |
The Great Escape: Pretty acoustic guitar, accompanied by bass makes up the opening to this cut. Eventually it intensifies by the addition of layers and evocative sounds. It shifts out into a very triumphant prog rock excursion after a while. Adrian Belew like guitar lines swirl around odd spoken and sung vocals that would feel at home on a Parliament disc. Eventually, though, this runs through and drops back to the gentle tones to carry it onward. Another frantic prog explosion takes it later and alternates with a melodic segment. Then a smoking guitar solo emerges to lead this one onward. The mellower sounds eventually have the final word, though. It makes for a great disc closer. While I still think I prefer "Black Mind" to this, it's a tight race. At over 8 minutes it's the longest on show here. | ..>..>
