Friday Night-Aint a Damn Thing Funny. Weekends Here-Bitch Better Have My Money.

It's cold as a mother.  That never used to stop us up in the north country.  Feelin' nostalgic.  I'm gonna call some homies.  No words will be spoken.  Hold the phone up to the speakers.  Remind 'em that it is Friday night.

Jase- Face to Face-Disconnected

Lora- Pennywise-Bro Hymn

Pat & Paul- Bad Religion-Stranger Than Fiction

Rafe Balls & Amy- NOFX-the Brews

Scrubs- Rancid-Timebomb

That ought to do it.  Now I'm gonna go to the bar.  By the time I get back, I assume I'll have a few songs in my voicemail.  It is Friday night.  I am 34.

Pot legalized in Mpls for one night only-Tonight!

…Well, not really.  It's actually pottery and it's totally legal…all the time.  But the pottery I speak of is exceptional, as is the creator of said pottery.  The name is Peter Jadoonath.  He is amazing.  Not just as a potter, but as a human being.  He is always very supportive and continually shows genuine interest in the direction (or lack thereof) I take with my own art.  Anyway, in 2007 Peter was awarded a prestigious Jerome Artist Grant to further assist in creation of his ceramics.  He is showing off some of those creations at the Northern Clay Center in Gallery M, through February 24th.  The opening is tonight (January 11th) from 6-8pm.  Come check it out!

Here are the details.  Here is Peter.  Do it!

Back Alley Gallery Fall Sale (insult free invite)

What are you doing this weekend?  "Nothing cool.  I was gonna ask you if anything rad was happening."  Great, that's what I thought…aannnnnd, I just so happen to have something rad for you to do:

It's the Back Alley Gallery's Annual Fall Sale.

I will have all new paintings on display and for sale.  Come judge the results of this fall's epic battle:  Nathan O'Brien vs. Minimalism.  I'm pretty sure I kicked Minimalism's ass.  However, the final results are up to ya'll.  In addition, I will have a stack of old stuff you can rummage through if you'd like.  Cheap!  (..free, if you ask nice.)

Also, I have invited a very special guest artist for the event.  The Skullcrusher (Derek Settergren) is traveling from Grinnell, Iowa to show some new paintings.  This is Skullcrusher's B.A.G. debut and I am psyched to have him here!

Besides Derek and myslef, the whole B.A.G. gang will be holdin' it down; rocker's style.  Here's the list of outstanding talent that will be on display (and there in PERSON!):

Peter Jadoonath
Janna Schneider (guest)
Mike Helke (guest)
Amy Conwell
DWITT
Jack Elkin
Matt Hartmann
Kate Nelson
Tim Shindler
Christopher Bowman
Molly Chandler

Dereck Settergren (guest)

Nathan O'Brien

Get all your holiday shopping done early and treat yourself while you're at it. Ceramics, handmade bags, jewelry, paintings, prints, collage, drawings, assemblages and so on.  We will also provide complementary food and beverages (alcoholic! and otherwise) to soothe the soul.

Friday 5-10 (and beyond)

Saturday 12-6

The Back Alley Gallery is located at:

 262 E 4th St., studio LL2

 in Lowertown St. Paul, MN.

(kitty corner to the farmer's market)

When in Rome...or on MySpace

Okay, I've been "tagged."  Compose a blog listing 10 things about you people may not know.  "Tag" more people when you're done.  See who plays.  This is dangerously close to bulletin status, which I fucking hate.  Awww fuck it, why not?  I'm on the clock, so I'm playing.  Better than doing actual work.

1)      I'm a little bit metro.

2)      I do believe that I have earned the right to act snobby sometimes.  I do my research.  If you think you found something pretty cool; truthfully, I've probably already heard of it, if not even invented it.  (i.e. the Shocker)  Sorry…seriously.  On the other hand: I do believe in giving credit where credit is due.  Also, you might not believe this but

3)      Surprisingly, I'm quite a decent person.  Like a really, really, really good guy; complete with emotions and a genuine concern for the rest of humanity.  It's just such an easy copout to act otherwise.  Plus, I do find comedy in portraying the selfish, cocky mother fucker that sometimes rears his ugly head on here, (as well as here) and occasionally in person.  Deep down though, I'm compassionate, forgiving and crazy nice.  So nice in fact that sometimes I can't say "no" even when I really want to.

4)      I watch Gossip Girl.

5)      One of my best friends, who makes a living selling his art, doesn't respect me as an artist.  He thinks I don't know it but I do.  His mannerisms make it painfully obvious every time we talk about it.  I suspect that a few of my other artist friends feel the same as he does.  Oh well.  I enjoy the "outsider" role for the most part anyway.

6)      I would eat human flesh just so I could say I have.

7)      I read an article in Details years ago (when it was actually a decent magazine) about Steve McQueen.  I remember that his son described him as "obsessed with falling in love but not being in love."  Interesting.

8)      I heard through the grapevine, so to speak, that a good buddy of mine described me as being "his own worst enemy."  Interesting.

9)      I actually don't really like hot dogs that much.  Not even anywhere near as much as I like talking about them and/or snapping pics of girls eating them when they aren't expecting it.  The same goes for road-kill.  I prefer animals that are living, breathing and un-mangled by a tire.

10)  You wish.  Suck it, prick!!!

Okay, that was kinda stupid, but whatevs.  Jen V2, Timmer, Vano, Kanye, Balls, Evil Twin ~ "You've been tagged!"  …Uuughhrrgghh, gross, can't believe I just said that.  Let me know...

Life is the crummiest book I ever read..

..there isn't a hook, just a lot of cheap shots, pictures to shock and characters an amateur would never dream up

Dear greatest hugger, cuddler and kisser in the world,

I woke up thinking about you.  I wish I could say it's been awhile since that has happened.  It hasn't.  I saw you recently.  I love seeing you.  I also hate it.  I am reminded of missed opportunities.  I blew it, I know.  You'd only ending up hating me anyway.  You're fairly innocent and a good person.  I'm far from being either.  I wasn't ready.  For what it's worth, I'm probably still not.  I'm a realist.  I know that most likely the opportunity will never arise again.  I'm also an optimist.  Perhaps some time down the road?

Dang man…missed opportunity…its my true calling.  Obviously, fiction is not.

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

This Weekend!- Back Alley Gallery

Hey pussies and hippies,
I imagine most of you often find yourself sitting on the couch, eating potato chips and watching The Bachelor with your significant other.  It's probably at this point that you ask yourselves "why are we so lame?"  Or perhaps you just finished your third cheesy romance novel of the month...and you're a dude, and your asking yourself "why am I such a shit head?"  Well, I hate to break it to ya but this is life you've chosen and you have nobody to blame but yourself.  However, I can help...at least for this weekend.  Stand up, brush the crumbs off of your pajamas, wipe the tears from your eyes, throw that crusty tube sock under the couch and find a mirror.  Take a long, hard look at yourself. Now scream out loud "I don't want to be lame anymore!  I'm not a shit head!  I want to do something really bitchin' this weekend...like the Original Gangsta would.  He's so rad!  I'm going to the BACK ALLEY GALLERY!!!"  That's it!  Feels good doesn't it.  You're alive again!  Now the next step is a fairly simple one.  Just follow along...

Go to the Back Alley Gallery this weekend.  It's the St. Paul Fall Art Crawl.  We will have a crap ton of original artwork on display and for sale.  Ceramics, gig posters, t-shirts, wood work, drawings, paintings, hand made bags, jewelry and much more.  10 artists total.  (Well, 9 and myself.)  There are also a ton of other galleries participating in the Crawl but we are, of course, the most eclectic, most known and hosts to the best party.  Enjoy some drinks (alcoholic or otherwise) and sample our wide variety of snacks (including the homemade hot salsa, known famously as "Skullsa.")  Then, should you find something you cant live without, buy it!  Here is the dealio:

St. Paul Art Crawl
Fri, Oct 12th.  6-10pm Opening Night(party til infinity)
Sat, Oct 13th.  2-10pm(party continues)
Sun, Oct 14th.  12-5pm(hair of the dog)

Back Alley Gallery
262 4th Street  LL2
Lowertown St. Paul, MN

*kitty corner to the Farmers Market-follow signs down to the lower level, 2*

Jokes and ridiculous insults aside, I hope to see you ALL there.  We love the support.  Thanks everybody.
