A fancy party
If you live in Salt Lake City (or thereabouts) you really should come to the show on Saturday, February 2nd. We'll be opening for Ego Likeness and Redemption. It starts early, so come early; I'm told we'll go on about 7pm. Don't miss it!
This show will mark the end of a season for QsfQ. It's been a beautiful evolution (to date). What began as me, overly drugged and under confident, alone in the corner of a coffee shop in *UrbanWastelandUtah, is ending with a full band of like-minded comrades. We buzz off the collective sound-making and it elevates us.
I'm aware of just how much of a full circle this evolution seems to have come in. I wouldn't have thought as much... but it's unmistakable how the energy we create as a band rekindles the energy that surged through me as a young musician. Once I decided I wanted to be a musician (and wanted to share music)- I would scream it from the rooftops. Over time the screams quieted to whispers and now they're more like screams yet again. It's electric.
I've had so much fun playing music like this. I can't wait for the show on Saturday to do this for you. It makes me so happy to play music and to have friends' energy to feed from and to feed.
This show will mark the end of a season for QsfQ because I've decided to focus on other important pursuits for a while. I try to multi-task but in the end I always fall short. This year I want to see a few things through.
In many months, there may be new shows. It may be near the end of 2008 or they might come later. And those will most likely be more like early incarnation of this band we've all come to know as QsfQ. Just Sara and me playing with a few toys and singing to galaxies as they pass in perfect orbit. Time, no doubt, will see another evolution and there may yet be another loud, full band incarnation. Who knows? That will be another story for another life.
If it pleases you, massa, please join us for a fancy party on February 2nd at Area 51. 'Twill be a wonderful night.

---- *Ogden, UT (...but before you take that as an insult. It's one of my favorite cities in this fair state. I just like to refer to it as such because of my grand fantasy that someday, after the fall of humanity, it will be a mecca of strange clues to strange lives and of concrete pastures. A place I'd surely like to spend some time wandering.)

Saturday, Jan 12th (SLAMMYS)
We were honored to be asked to be a part of the Goth/Darkwave showcase that the Salt Lake City Weekly is putting on. We're really excited for the show, Saturday, Jan 12th. Domiana and Carphax Files are also playing and they are SMOKIN'! This is gonna be a show to remember...
There are a lot of really awesome bands playing throughout the next month or so as part of the Slammys. If you live in the Salt Lake area and are into good music, do yourself a favor and see a show or 8. If you choose the right bands you will be translated henceforth and may have to get special permission to visit people who were not so fortunate. You really aughta think about that.

About "4 NEW SONGS"
I decided to post a little taste of what's been recorded since "in dreams awake". The songs are unfinished and only roughly mixed but I hope you'll enjoy what we've got so far.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of what's going on in the four songs (and their titles):
1- Star Shining Brightly
This is (very loosely) based on the LDS children's song of the same name. I like the idea of letting one's inner light shine and started writing the words around that idea. The music just kind of fell into place and I recorded it that night. Decided to add a little bit of bass and some synth for good measure ('cause that's how I roll). So far it's all just little ol' me.
2- You are everything (which may become "Everything")
A song that came about like a lot of others songs, a piece at a time. I can't really remember but I believe I started with the guitar part and built upon it. It's been a work in progress but I like the feel. This one will really blossom (just you wait)...
3- Just believe
I was playing around on my (I mean Sara's) banjo and liked the sound of this simple song. Decided to add powerfully positive, spell binding words to it and had sara sing the lead. It definitely doesn't feel done to me... but there's something beautiful about the simplicity of it all. We'll see what comes of it...
4- Emile of the lilacs
This song features the lovely Rebecca Vernon (of Subrosa/Violet Run) on hammer dulcimer. She came over to our place late one night and we played around for a few minutes before coming up with what you hear here. I have mixed feelings about the drum machine in the mix (though, I do like the distortion)... but it's just a little too bare for my taste without it. In the (near) future this one will most likely have vocals and (real) drums (of some kind).
That's all for now!

Pink ladies of light and delights of all kinds
Much has occurred in the way of lovely shows recently.... Cabaret Macabre, a show with Carphax Files, and one with Bombs & Beating Hearts.
Fortunately, the pink lady of light has been present and relevant at them... (unfortunately, only I can see her). But her presence has made these shows even more magical and fruitful than before... many friends have been made, & much sharing of visual and auditory delights...

About our "friend", Tom
Last night I thought I spotted our good friend, Tom, sleepwalking. He was a great distance from me, perhaps 100 yards, walking through my grandfather's field. It was dark and the moon was full, covered by thick storm clouds. I watched as he walked into a cave we haven't played in together for years. I was sure it was him, totally unaware of me. I screamed his name and ran to him.
I entered the cave; listening intently, I could hear Tom deep and to my right. Alternating running and listening, I followed him in the dark. Just as I came upon him, he slipped and slid down a steep incline.
Into the blackness I screamed his name.

In retrospect (Dark Arts 2006)
QsfQ played our first Dark Arts Festival in SLC, UT last night. It was a dream. We were very warmly received and for that we are and were so grateful. If you were there we THANK YOU so much. It really means a lot to us to get the kind of response we got from people last night. It's why we do what we do, actually. So much of what we do as musicians and artists is fueled by sheer passion. Please don't take that as me being pretentious or full of myself or something. It's just the truth (as I see it). Almost everything about what we do keeps us in the red and it sucks. We put out way more money and time than is wise. From a "rational" point of view we're probably seen as foolish or just plain stupid. But what choice do we have? We have only to choose to do it better and learn from our mistakes. Because we CAN'T give it up. Last nights experience at Area 51 was an amazing one. We had a great time performing and had an overwhelming response from the crowd. We were recharged and refueled by the experience. Our spirits are high enough now to weather the storms and fly. Thank you again for your goodness. Onward and upward, friends. xojasonxo

On a jubilant note...
Current mood: jubilant
I just wanted to thank all who came to tonight's show. It truly was a lovely experience...I couldn't have asked for a better one. Everything went wonderful...and I felt truly inspired and enthralled by what we were creating. Lovely. And the company was lovely too. I am sorry if I was not the best conversationalist, or may not have spoken for as long as you or I would've liked. Or maybe if I missed you entirely. I apologize. I was in the clouds. It was the best night EVER. Now you'll all have to rent "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" to find out the ending....It is a fabulous show.
Kisses.
Sara
