Presenting some of the best in new Jewish music from Israel and the USA, Jewlicious Festival is bringing an international cadre of talented musicians to Long Beach, March 9th-11th, 2007. A music selection committee composed of students and grads met over several months to pick out the music for this year's festival. All Dynamic, exciting, and indie, these artists represent a milestones for the three year old Festival. Eight separate acts over two nights, in a feast of great music.
Jewlicious Festival started three years ago, and has grown into the largest Jewish student festival in the United States. Students from a dozen states and over 30 schools are gathering for the weekend at the Alpert Jewish Community Center.
The current line-up includes Eastern European folk-punk band Golem, lower east-side folk-rocker Rav Shmuel performing with dance-pop fusion band The BloodSugars, Israeli indie band missFlag and the unique sound of Soulico Crew from Tel Aviv, the heavy metal band The Makkabees, "Jewish-indie-ska mashup" band Shankbone, and DJ Eric Rosen & Twelve Tribes Live Percussion Ensemble.
Recently added new artists are JJ Keki, Grammy Award nominated musician from Uganda, and My Second Surprise, whose debut video won the Israeli Video Awards.
Jewlicious Festival is adapting a recently vacated prayer house with amazing acoustics, to house the festival concerts. So, if you cannot make the entire Festival (which is a bummer because it will be amazing) then you must at the very least come and see these shows. We will be selling a limited number of tickets for JUST the concerts starting today. For those over 21, there will be bargain beer and wine.
As with all Festival tickets, these are heavily subsidized by our sponsors and patrons who want you to enjoy an amazing festival. So the costs to you are very affordable: $15 for general admission and $10 for students for both nights. Please consider coming for the whole weekend even if you can't do everything. This is the most amazing program ever!
Just returned from PJA/REBOOT/JDUB's Festival of Rights at the El Ray on Wilshire. A talkative and mixed crowd or highbrows and lowbrows and piercedbrows. Highlight of the night was the marvelous performance by GOLEM, part of the JDUB Family. PJA created a very high-profile candle lighting, with Mayor Antonio the most popular man in LA. There were TV Cameras filming his every move, he used the words mitzvah AND tikkun olam. Gd he's good. There was R' Sharon Brous of IKAR, labor leaders, politicians, and a Muslim, some Jews, it was very progressive, at times even inspiring, as they turned the bulbs on the electric menorah.
Reboot's Julie Hermalin read a fantastic retelling of the Chanukah story, Eric "Smooth E" Schwartz laid down some fine grooves and performed his latest song about Chanukah Gelt. Beverly and Ronna hilarious! Oy I can't remember everyone. Heaping Hanukah...
Shmoozing with Aaron Bisman, sporting a very fine new kelly green JDub shirt, he told me they about their Nationwide JDub Chanukah tour: 12/ 14 San Francisco, 2/ 17 Great Barrington, MA, 12/ 20 Chicago, 12/21 Boston, 12/ 23 Brooklyn, NY
Golem remind me of the cabaret acts in Krakow I watched as a graduate student, but hyped up on lots of red-bull. Great show.
Bumped into Ruthie Andrew Ellenson, one of Jewlicious 2.0's stars, Craig Taubman, Jon Fischel. The Jewish world is getting smaller each day.

Hello I am Dan T. from New Paltz. Well any way in 2003 we created Yarmulke Day. Yarmulke Day is on the day before Winter Break when students of all races and religions wear Yarmulkes or Yamikas it sounds better. It all started when teachers waved the no hat policy for those Santa hats so I thought well then I want to wear a hat to. This year in New Paltz/The World Yarmilka day is December 22nd. The best part of this is Yarmulke are not considered Holy items like a Torah, and legally they can't tell you to take it off. So show some support and add this profile to your top friends list! I am not sure how you want to look at this holiday, its ether school rebellion or a peace statement or both Thanks.
Make sure to add him as a friend, and check out his gallery of famous folks in yarmulkes!
