Our Drive Home
Current mood: calm
Category: Travel and Places

Ok let's see if I can get this whole thing out, but I think it was funnier in person.

So when driving from Squamish to Issaquah you must change freeways after Vancouver from driving east to driving south.  My sister and I were having such a good time chatting, singing to music and talking about camp we didn't think about exiting the freeway at all.  We did stop for lunch and decided on sushi.

As soon as I walked in I thought oh no, no one is here, the food is going to be terrible.  And there's that power of suggestion and we manifested terrible food!  I don't know if you're a sushi eater but my tuna sashimi tasted like tuna from a can, the rolls were plain with a fishy taste.  If it is fresh it should not taste like that!  We were greatly disappointed and on the road again.  We saw the signs for the road we had gotten off and got back on continuing our drive east.

We drove for a long time not recognizing the scenery but enjoying it.  We saw cows, a water park, a miniature golf course which lead us to a 30min+ conversation about miniature golf.  There was a truck driving right behind us and Mck said "get off my ass Bitch!" I guess she manifested some room and the truck got back about 10+ feet and never came up close behind it again!  By that time we were well on our way to Hope.  We saw a sign for a toll booth coming up and realized we had somewhere made a mistake! We had never gone through a toll booth and we didn't want to.

The exit we took, took us to a dead end road that had signs saying "no exit" and "car theives work here!" I guess those are common signs in Canada but we had never seen them before. We were scared!  We wanted to take a picture but we locked the doors and drove away from there fast.  We called our dad and he said to ask someone where the closest border crossing was.

So we headed to a gas station. I called Julia and she said the traffic at the border was terrible, they left before us and they were still at the border!  The guy at the gas station was not very nice but he told us the border crossing was in Sumas!  As we got back on the freeway we realized that was were we had lunch!  It was nearly and hour and half east of Vancouver!  We were having such a great time we forgot all about directions.  I asked Mck if there were raindrops on her window and she said no, and a few seconds later it starting raining! Did I manifest rain?

We thought about how the ways of the wizard could be shown in how we reacted to this mix up.  We were calm, centered and focused in the eye of the storm.  We corrected and continued.  We went with the flow.  We weren't mad, we thought it was funny and we turned around and found the right way.  I always find of create a way.

We got back to Sumas, and under the freeway there was the sign for east (that we saw earlier) and right next to it was a sign for the USA border crossing! haha it hadn't even crossed our minds 3 hour earlier.  This time we headed straight, south toward the border.  Since it was a smaller crossing away from Vancouver, the line was short and we got through right away.  This took us to highway 9.  We stopped a gas station again because our dad told us to get a map.  We also got some energy drinks and some popsicles.

Highway 9 is east and somewhat parallel to I-5 so we decided to stay on it as far south as it would go.  It was not so parallel and was downright twisty and turny some parts.  But the speed limit was 50 so we figured we'd be going faster here than if we were on the freeway stuck in traffic.  We had a few other adventures on the way home but for the most part knew where we were and knew we were heading home.  When we were about an hour north I called my boyfriend to tell him we were almost home.  He said it sucked that we still were over an hour away.  I was frustrated because I had seen the whole day in such a positive light, it was a fun adventure with my sister and we bonded.  Maybe we weren't ready for the week to end.  Maybe it's natural to sympathize with someone when they have bad news, but I wasn't upset about the situation, I was happy and I didn't see why he was upset!  But then he hadn't been to Wizard!

We finally got home and were so happy about our adventures and about all we had learned and done at camp.  And all we had manifested on our way home.  Sounds like traffic at the border and going south on I-5 was pretty bad. It took us 9+ hours to get home.  But it was worth it.  Since we kept driving east, we took another border crossing and road and skipped all that traffic on I-5, the normal traffic through Everett and Bellevue.  Instead we drove, sung, bonded and had a great time together.

Everything happens for a reason and that reason is here to serve me.

Coming home!
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Travel and Places

So.. I'm coming home!

I couldn't stand being here any longer.  I need structure and routine.  I need family and friends and laughing smiling faces.  I need familiarity.

I need a doctor who speaks english.  I need clean dry clothes. And for all those reasons and more I am coming home.

I seemed to have lost myself somewhere over the last couple months, and my options weren't looking good.  I wanted to get away before I put myself in more harm.

I am coming home on friday night.  Let's all get together over the weekend?

I left the lodge this morning and will be in San Jose til Friday.  I am having dinner with some friends tonight and going white-water rafting tomorrow, thursday I plan to relax, watch tv, hang by the pool and do some laundry. and friday I fly home!  I'm staying at my friend Hilary's apartment in Escazu, but she has to work all week!

I am so over being here.  I'll tell you all about it over a cup of coffee.

Love you and miss you, and see you soon!

San Jose
Current mood: hot
Category: Travel and Places

So this weekend I finally took some days off and took a 7 hour bus ride to Costa Rica´s capital San Jose.  I stayed with my new friend Hilary at her corporate apartment and we hung out with her coworkers.  I had a great time!

I arrived at her office on friday around 4pm and hung out til she got off work.  That night we went out to a bar and ate some dinner and had a few drinks.  One of her coworkers was leaving to go back to the states and it was another one´s birthday.  The birthday guy suggested we go to a lebanise bar that he liked.  We went and I smoked my first hooka! (Caroline you´ll be so proud of me! It was about time right!)

The next day we went shopping, Hilary got a swimsuit and I got a really cute white and yellow sundress!  I never wear yellow and I never wear sundresses so this is a change!  But it´s so dang hot here!

I also got my haircut and Hilary got a pedicure!  Fun stuff, and a nice change from the jungle.

That night (Saturday) we went to the soccer game.  It was two rival costa rican teams.  I was so excited, I hoped my coworkers would see me on tv!  Hilary and I really got into cheering along with the crowd and I had a blast.

On Sunday we took it easy.  We went to the grocery store to get some snacks. we did laundry and layed out at the pool.  We out to dinner for italian with her coworker.  And went to bed early.

Oh we also watched lots of television through out the weekend.  I don´t watch any here so it was a real treat!

Overall I had a blast and I was disapointed to come back to the jungle. My bus left San Jose at 5am this morning!  I realized costa ricans don´t get my humor, probably cuz its not their native tounge, and I don´t know enough spanish to really get to know the other staff.   And when I ask questions it means I´m intellegent and want to know more, to them it just comes off as being annoying and frustrating.  So our different cultures are getting in the way.  I´m having a hard time finding a good balance for me.  Where I can enjoy the location and the people and my job why focusing on both myself and our guests.

My bosses are not my main concern but they always seem to have something new for me to work on or do differently.  Working here is super hard.  I´m trying to way out the pros and cons of being here and each day they change.  We´ll see how it goes.  I´ll stick it out for another month.

I really miss my boyfriend and best friend and everyone and everything familiar.  Life is so much easier in my own language.

Wish me luck! I love you all

crazy adventures in Drake Bay CR
Current mood: cheerful
Category: Travel and Places

Well my mom came to visit me in Costa Rica after her yoga retreat.  She had a rental car so I wanted to go some place far that was hard to get to.  We decided to go to Drake Bay.  We stayed at a place called Pirate Cove.  Most of the hotels there you either have to walk to or get picked up by a boat.  But ours was still on the road.  From the road we walked about 3 hours on the beachside trail.  We went swimming on some sandy beaches, snorkeled, saw some beautiful scarlet macaws that landed on the tree over our heads.

Yesterday we went on a tour up the Rio Claro.  Then we swam in some pools at waterfalls.  It was pretty awesome and special.

Today we took the bus at 4:30am from our hotel to La Palma.  From La Palma we wanted to take a taxi to Puerto Jimenz.  We took a ride from a man for 3 bucks a peice and it ended up being in the back of a truck!  He picked up some other people along the way.  It was quite an adventure and an interesting way to see some of the country.  I think my favorite part of traveling are the new smells.

Now we are waiting in Jimeniez for the boat that doesn't come until 11:30 and it's only 8am.  We've got a while to wait.

If anyone wants to come visit, I would love to see you.  When else do you get the chance or excuse to come to Costa Rica?? right?

I love you all, take care.

Costa Rica
Current mood: happy
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Haha I didn´t know if I should choose job or travel for the category.

Anyways this is my first post for Costa Rica

It has been a hard first couple weeks.  The lodge I am working at has been pretty empty and slow, leaving me nothing much to do.  And if I´m going to be thrown into something new, I want to be busy!  Instead, I had lots of time to sit around and miss my boy, my friends and family

But, now I had some chats with the owner and she gave me a lot to do.  And deadlines!  I like some direction!  That is why I´m here (at the internet.. to research code of ethics, because I thought the lodge should have one! go ecotourism 479!)  In the mornings when nothing is going on yet, I go for a hike or kayak up or down the gulf.  Rough huh.  Still homesick? you bet, just trying not to dwell on it too much.  Instead I´m learning about the area and working on my spanish!

But boy I miss you all so much and wish we could chat on the phone and catch up or when I need to hear a far away smiling face.  But no, that costs too much.  I hardly make anything, and half that is going towards some medical insurance my mom insisted I get.  Ugg. so I´ll be coming home with less than I started with.  But all the experience I will gain! for my resume and my future!  I have to keep reminding myself that this is worth it, even thou I want to be snuggling with my boyfriend watching a DVD haha.

So my plane ticket home is for June, I hope to make it that long, I´m just taking it day by day.  Trying to stay strong and enjoy myself.  Please come visit me and we can do some traveling around the country or hang out at the lodge.  They will give you a discount!

My mom is down here at a yoga retreat and then coming down here to hang out with me from saturday to wednesday.  I´m excited but I hope I´m not even more homesick when she leaves!  She will be bringing my USB cord for my camera, which I forgot! so after that I will be able to put some photos up, although I haven´t taken many yet.

If you know anyone down here let me know.  I´m going to try to get ahold of some classmates who are in the area.  I think Heather is somewhere on the other side of the gulf and Aaron is in Panama, hopefully close to the boarder!

Well I better get started on my research.  Later I´ve got to pick up a new yoga instructor from the airport.  Wahoo!  Good to chat with ya all. Hugs and kisses to everyone!

BELIZE!
Current mood: excited
Category: School, College, Greek

ATTENTION!!

In case you did not know, I am moving out of my house at 1104 High Street during Finals week!  Then I am putting my stuff in heated storage (if you know of a good one, plz let me know) and moving home back to Issaquah.  I will be in Issaquah for about a month.  Then in mid-April I am going to BELIZE! for my Rec Internship.  This will be the equivilant to taking classes during Spring quarter.  I will be there for 10 weeks and will recieve 15 credits!  During that time I will be learning and experiencing how an ecotourism lodge and spa run and operate.  I will get to be a part of everything that makes it run, especially fun excursions and programs!

It would be awesome if you wanted to visit me while I am there.  In case you do not know where Belize is and I didn't til I got my internship, it is below Mexico next to Guatamala.  The main language is English.

Well I will try to keep in touch while I am there but I would like to see you all before I go!  So let's make plans for this weekend or next week.  My 1104 High house might be having a Going Away Party for Jessica and I since we are both moving out to do internships!  I will let you know the details of that later, along with the exact date that I am leaving to Belize!

Thats all for now!
