Hi everyone!

I just got back from the L.A. Shorts Fest in Hollywood for the latest screening of "Exact Change Only"....it was very well-received and got alot of laughs!!

More acceptance news, too!  "Grim Fetch" will
be screening at the Temecula Valley International Film Fest this fall...the same festival where "Exact Change Only" received its "Best Animated Film" award!  So good luck to "Grim Fetch"....I am hoping to attend the screening, since so far I was only able to catch it once, in Newport...

Lastly, "Flightless" just received its THIRD award in
festivals!  It was awarded "Best Student Film" at the OC County Fair last month, and, as a reminder, it's also currently posted on my myspace...so if you haven't check it out yet, DO IT NOW!

Thanks again for all of your support, guys...and please keep in mind that my performance at the Feel Good Film Festival this Saturday at 4 pm is FREE....I hope to see you there!

Greetings everyone!

August is upon us and SO much has happened....so here's the scoop!

1. "December Eyes", which I composed and performed for America Young's short entitled 'Deja Vu", has received a nomination for "Best Original Song Written For a Film" in the Feel Good Film Fest at the Egyptian Theater!! This is my first ever film music nomination (the past awards received have been for the films, but not the music specifically) so it is a momentous occasion!  In addition to entry in the festival, I will also be performing at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood as part of the event, on August 23rd at 4 p.m.  I will be performing "December Eyes", of course, as well as two other original jazz pieces including my original song "Distraction", which was recently licensed into episode 207 of the Here! TV series "The Lair".  Visit www.fgff.org for tickets and info....it's going to be a delightful warm fuzzy festival, since only "feel good" films are allowed in!

2. Ironically, the very same day I am playing 5 minutes down the street from the Egyptian at the Stone Bar!  Each month they have a really terrific night of eclectic and international music, and this month I will be one of the featured arists!  I don't have my precise line-up in the show yet, but the event starts at 8 p.m. and all of the acts are going to be very worthwhile...I went last month and was very impressed by the variety; some of the featured acts were a rock band where the lead instrument was an orchestra-sized harp, as well as a blues group and a duo of classical guitar and gypsy violin!  We should fit in nicely.  I'll be playing with Nicole Campagni on hand drums (of course), Jackie Bell as back-up vocals and percussion and Leo Barnhart on acoustic guitar!  I've also posted this event on my myspace page, so check it out for more info!  I will also be debuting some new music....

3. "Exact Change Only" at the L.A. Shorts Fest is coming up on Tuesday, August 19th!  Since "Exact Change" has been touring for over a year now, this will probably be the LAST screening....so do remember that it may be your very last chance to see it on the big screen!! I just found out that "Exact Change Only" was also screened as part of an outdoor film event at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, where they have been trying to bring back the tradition of screening animated shorts before films. That little film has certainly gotten around...

4. I am not teaching art anymore...I just finished up my very first week at my new job as musical director for the Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts in L.A.!!   As many of you know, I used to musical direct for a small children's theater company before running the art school in Palos Verdes, and it's very exciting to be involved in such a thriving program!  Y.A.D.A. actually owns it's own theater and functions as a year-round theater educational program instead of a seasonal company, and our last summer session ends next week with weekend performances of "Alice in Wonderland"!  So if you're local, come check us out!  I have been very happy so far and am looking forward to a long relationship with the kids, families, and fellow teachers at Y.A.D.A. in continuation of my music pursuits here in L.A!

L.A. Shorts Fest and "In Prog" songs....

Bonjour!!

I've already posted it in the events section of my myspace, but be sure to take note that "Exact Change Only" by Chuck Grieb (featuring the original score that I composed for the film) will be screening as part of the L.A. Shorts Fest on August 19th at 7:30 pm!  The L.A. Shorts Fest at the Arclight in Hollywood is one of the few shorts festivals in the country that is recognized and sponsored by the Academy, so I'm very excited...not to mention nostalgic, because several years ago the L.A. Shorts Fest was the first festival I ever attended as a filmmaker...and ironically it was yet another Chuck Grieb film I had composed for.  Good old "Roland's Trouble".  Be sure to check out the embedded movie file at www.myspace.com/rebeccanorris!

Last month I finished another film project for filmmaker America Young, and just saw the rough cut today with my music in it!  It's a live-action short...don't know the title yet...but we're entering it into the upcoming "Feel Good Film Festival" in August, so I'll keep you all posted!

And our final order of business: I have added a new feature to my myspace page (again, at www.myspace.com/rebeccanorris) where I have started to post songs I am working on for various projects.  You'll know it's something I'm still working on by the "In Prog" album title and the silly picture of me with recording headphones on, denoting that the file is still being tweaked.  Feel free to rate these songs and let me know what you think!

P.S. On a whim, I e-mailed Bear McCreary, the much-admired composer for Sci Fi channel's Battlestar Galactica, to get some advice on making music out here in L.A....amazingly, he wrote back and was very encouraging!!  Take the time, if you haven't yet, to check out the show or at least the accompanying score...very, very innovative and worth your while to check it out.  The season 3 album is my favorite!

Films online and OC Fair!

Howdy y'all!

Here's a quick lovely update on a few things: in case you haven't noticed, I now have both "Roland's Trouble" and the award-winning film "Flightless" embedded as movie files on my myspace profile page, so you can enjoy these two films (and the scores I wrote for them!) in their entirety.  Please let me know what you think!  :^)

Also, "Flightless" will be featured in the OC Animation Celebration event at the OC County Fair this month!  The film will be screening in the Flash  & Focus building from July 11th to 26th, during which time audience members can cast their votes for the People's Choice Best Animated Film award!  So help us out and if you can attend, be sure to vote "Flightless!!"

Hi everyone,

More great news: I just found that "Grim Fetch" took "Best Animated Film" in the Lake Arrowhead Film Festival this past Saturday!  Along with the "Best Animated Film" awards received by both "Flightless" and "Exact Change Only" (all three of which I scored last year), my odds are pretty good right now.

Time for some new film projects....

And don't forget that Friday, April 25th, you can see both "Grim Fetch" and "Exact Change Only" (featuring original scores by yours truly) in the Newport Beach Film Festival in the 4:30 pm block...I shall most definitely be in attendance for this one...cross your fingers for more awards!!!

New song and double feature in Newport!!

Hi guys!

I just received word that both "Grim Fetch" and "Exact Change Only" will be screening in the same block of films at the Newport Bach Film Festival, starting at 4:15 pm on Friday, April 25th!  I don’t have the ticket information yet, but the cool thing is that you’ll be able to see both films in the same session if you can attend!  More info later...

Also, I just posted a new song on myspace last night...it’s a jazzy one I did for a tv project on the side.  I’m working on some others that will hopefully be posted soon.  Please let me know what you think!!!

"Exact Change Only" and "Grim Fetch" in Newport!!

Hi everyone,

I am very pleased to announce that yet again I will have two films screening in the same festival: both "Grim Fetch" and "Exact Change Only" have just received their acceptances into the Newport Beach Film Festival here in Southern California!  The dates and times I have just posted on my myspace page are an estimation, since the actual program has not been released yet...it's a huge week-long festival.  I am hoping that I will be able to attend both screenings in person, and I'll be sure to let all of you know once I know more!  Also, I just posted two additional screening dates as well, since the date and time for "Grim Fetch" at the California Independent festival has just been released, as well as its acceptance into the Lake Arrowhead Film Festival!

That's the news for now----other than that, I saw "Across the Universe" for the first time this past weekend....go see it if you haven't yet...amazing!!!!

"Grim Fetch"---the premiere!!

Hi guys!

Thanks so much to everyone who made it out for my performance last Saturday...it was good to be onstage again and I am hoping to do so again soon....so stay tuned!!

I just found out from filmmaker John Cahoon that his film "Grim Fetch", featuring an original score by yours truly, was accepted into the 10th Annual California Independent Film Festival!!  This festival will be the film's premiere, and we are both very excited to have it take place at such a prestigious festival.  I am hoping to attend, but the exact time and date of the film's premiere have not yet been released.  I'll let everyone know as soon as I have more news!

Thanks again for coming out for my performance, those of you who were able to make it...as for those of you who couldn't be there, you owe me one.
