stuff and things

Man I'm tired. I don't remember a time when fatigue showed this strongly in my body. My brain is addled by it. I haven't slept for more than 6 hours at a stretch in almost two months; usually it's as little as two hours before I am up again. My son came home from the hospital on August 1st, and he needs special attention since being born premature in May. You don't just plug a bottle in this kid's face and then lay him down again 20 minutes later. You have to coax him to take the nipple, and then stop intermittently to burp him (burping can take anywhere from 1 - 20 minutes) then what food he hasn't eaten must be pushed through a tube that goes down his throat via his nose. Then he must be held upright for at least 30 minutes so he doesn't puke. One feed can take up to two hours, and he eats every four. Whatever expletive you just uttered is exactly how I feel.

The great part about this is I get to spend an incredible amount of time with my kid. He is this perfect example of pure essence. Uncorrupted by anything or anyone he has no idea what is going on or how to do anything about it.

That's all for now.

My premature child and my badass wife.
Category: Life

My wife gave birth to our son via c-section on Wednesday the 3rd of May. He came into this world weighing one kilo; so small in fact, that he was able to wear my wedding band around his wrist. He had only gestated for 27 weeks, which is 13 weeks short of his due date. That's 3 months and a week for all of you who can't figure out that there are 4 weeks in a month.

The most amazing thing to me is that my wife had a rupture of the amniotic sac at 22 weeks, and was able to stay still on bed-rest for 5 weeks before going into labor. Day after day of barely moving so she could keep this precious cargo alive and well. I am in awe of this woman, not to mention eternally grateful.

Our baby boy Cash is in intensive care at Seton Medical Center, and is faring well. He has gained weight, and has been weened off of almost all of his meds. He had chest tubes in the begining to relieve pressure from pnuemo-thorax; now those are gone. He is off of the ventilator, and now has a device called a CPAP to help him breath.

Cash still has a long way to go, and he's not out of the woods just yet, but things are looking good. My beautiful wife Gretchen is making a speedy recovery from c-section, and has a great outlook on all of this.

I have truly been blessed.
