MUSIC AWARDS BALLOT IS NOW ONLINE!
Please go here and vote for your favorite local artists! Voting will continue right up until the day of the June 3 showcase, so spread the word!
http://www.riverfronttimes.com/poll/musicawards07
As I noted in my column this week, the awards ceremony -- yes, we're having one this year -- is going to have a twist: The top three vote-getters overall are going to perform at the shindig, which will take place on Tuesday, June 12, from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Pageant.
So start posting MySpace bulletins, tell all your friends, and make plans to log on and make your voice heard. (And remember — we can catch ballot-stuffers, so don't even try it!)
All information, including a link to this lovely MySpace page, can be found here: www.riverfronttimes.com/php/retail/stl/musicawards/2007/

Voting Is Just One Week Away!
Yes, that's right! We'll be putting the ballot online the RFT Web site NEXT WEEK! That's where you'll be able to vote for your favorite artist in twenty nifty categories.
The incentive to get everyone to vote is rather sweet: The top three vote-getters across the board in any category will be performing for the adoring masses at the Music Awards presentation on Tuesday, June 12, at the Pageant -- a shindig emcee'd by yours truly, Annie Z.
Remember, the music showcase is June 3! From 2 p.m. to midnight in the Loop. We're finalizing performers as we speak, with the full line-up and schedule set as soon as we know it. Check out this page or over on our blog, STLog, found here: http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/stlog/
Cheers!

For everybody!
1. Voting is going to start online in the next few weeks. Once I know the date when the ballot goes live, you better believe everyone here will be the first to know. I expect a deluge of MySpace bulletins at least every other day. There will be pop quizzes.
2. Please add the myspace, myspace.com/rftmusicawards2007. i have tried to add as many people as i can, but it's time-consuming. :-/ it doesn't mean i don't love you.
For nominated bands!
1. WE ARE HANDLING THE BOOKING IN-HOUSE! please, please do not contact venues yourselves and start setting up anything. this makes annie a cranky music editor.
2. PLEASE EMAIL ME THE BEST CONTACT INFO, PHONE NUMBER AND EMAIL, FOR YOUR BAND, to facilitate booking. BY 5 p.m. THIS FRIDAY! THIS WILL HELP ME OUT GREATLY AND WILL HELP YOU WHEN WE PUT THE SHOWCASE TOGETHER! annie.zaleski AT riverfronttimes.com.

Music Awards Nomination Ballot -- Coming April 4!
Current mood: good
That's right, folks: The music awards nomination ballot for 2007 will appear on our blog (and in the paper) on Wednesday, April 4! Get excited! For more preliminary info on the proceedings, please see my column here, with text reprinted below for your perusal.
I'm not exactly good at being on time. I don't wear a watch, never really pay attention to what time it is and figure that time is an abstract. It's not that I'm being rude, exactly. I'm just sort of spacey.
But I do live up to my nitpicking astrological sign — Virgo, thank you very much — in that I'm a meticulous planner and a scheduler. All of which means I'm excited to announce that our 2007 RFT Music Awards showcase will take place on Sunday, June 3, in the Delmar Loop. I've already set up a MySpace page (myspace.com/rftmusicawards2007), which is again going to be the best place to find out about bands, nominees, showcase times, voting procedures and anything else awards-related. I'm also pleased to announce that we're bringing back an awards-presentation ceremony, a shindig that'll take place at the Pageant on Tuesday, June 12. (Details forthcoming.)
The format of the awards showcase will be slightly different. Unlike last year, we won't be having any national acts performing — it'll be all local bands. And because the 2006 version of our music awards was only about six months ago, I'll be implementing some new categories this year to perhaps (gasp!) inject some new blood into the proceedings.
Why the changes? Well, consider this us deciding to focus on and celebrate what talent St. Louis has to offer. Anyone who's read my column or the music section since I moved to town knows that I love music and am genuinely excited about so many people creating tunes in town. I've been told that perhaps I'm too positive sometimes; and while that might be true, I'd rather write about people doing cool things then dwell on the negative. As the Spice Girls say, "All you need is positivity."
