videos galore!
Howdy Friends, Rhett here. I realize that sometimes - especially when I'm on tour - my "people" send out notices/alerts/messages or whatever. I hope you don't mind the marketing. But just so you know, if it's from me it will say "yrs, Rhett" on the bottom.
Here's my news... Obviously the new Old 97's video is out in the world. It's a hilarious nerd-boy fantasy (secret nerd alert for yours truly) wherein our unexpectedly ass-kicking protagonist pursues the lovely and talented Tricia Helfer. I love that lady - super-nice and real and sweet! The video is like a little movie. Keven McAlester, the director, outdid himself. Go check it out.
The other big news is that the lost video for "Fireflies" is out in the world finally. Directed by Keven, the same guy as the new "Dance With Me" clip, it features Rachael Yamagata and I as star-crossed nightclub singers. The video was lost to time due to the unpleasant machinations of my former label, but it's back baby! I hope you enjoy it.
The 97's have been kicking ass across America (and Canada) and will continue to do so until it's time to go back into the studio for another record. I hope we come to your town. I can't wait to see your smiling face.
yrs, Rhett

Xmas gifts for you!
Howdy y'all, Rhett here. I posted some new songs on my MySpace page as a Christmas gift for you. First up is the new Old 97's recording of our song "Here It Is Christmas Time". We cut this during the sessions for our upcoming album which is being mixed as I write this. I posted "Meteor Shower" in response to requests that popped up after that song was used (in splendid fashion) by the TV show October Road. I also posted "World Inside The World" in memory of a young woman who passed away a year ago this month - Amber Kaufman, you are missed. I might have "accidentally" checked the box that makes "Meteor" and "World" downloadable. Merry Christmas. While I have your ear, I need to tell you that rhettmiller.com is finally up and rocking. Check it out. I would love any feedback you might have about the site. I hope you all have a great holiday. yrs, Rhett

RIP Carter Albrecht
The world lost a special person this week. Carter Albrecht was killed. The details of his death are confusing and horrible. His life was glorious but too short. I can't even begin to process the reality of his death. If you ever sat in the audience and watched him play, you know... He was touched by god. Gifted in a way that you almost never see. I miss him. The city of Dallas misses him. We will remember you, Carter. With love. And some sadness. But ultimately with joy. My three year old son Max found me reading the newspaper story again about Carter this morning. I was crying. Max put his arm on my shoulder and looked at Carter's picture and said, "It's okay, Daddy. Your friend is heaven now." I think Max is right.
I am posting a recording I made of "Ain't That Strange" featuring Carter's guitar work. I can't believe he is gone.

Malibu, baby!
Hello MySpace Cadets, Rhett Miller here. I will be playing a special gig at the Malibu Inn on Saturday June 2nd. I haven't played this room before, but Lucinda Williams and Aimee Mann enjoyed their experience there. That is enough recommendation for me. I go on at 9. See you there. In Old 97's news, my band will be on tour for the better part of July. We are gearing up to record a new album at the end of the summer. Advance word is that it FREAKIN' ROCKS. yrs, Rhett

97 reasons to be in Texas in the Spring!
Hello MySpace cadets, Texas in the springtime is undeniable proof of the existence of a higher power. The Old 97's will be celebrating by playing two shows in April (Houston on the 12 and Austin on the 13th), and one in May (the grand opening of the new Dallas House Of Blues on May 11th). Book your flights, buy your tickets, inflate your inner-tubes... Whatever it takes, just get there. I hope to see you all soon. yrs, Rhett PS (If you live elsewhere and can't make it down, we are lining up shows all over the country. 2007 will be an active year for the 97's!)

short story on fivechapters.com
I have a short story up today (11/22/6) on the literary website fivechapters.com. After today it will remain in their archive. It's a few years old and very short, but I'm proud of it. There is a missing comma and a typo towards the end wherein the word "pack" appears where the word "back" should, but that's just picking nits.

Oh yeah, and have a happy Thanksgiving!
