WMGK Houseband/The Rigbees

Yes, we are an original band that happens to do some tasty covers and WMGK picked us to be part of their Houseband Competition.
We are going to be playing our set of songs on August 21st at a yet to be decided on venue.   Check back here or go to their site to keep up on the details....
www.wmgk.com

You can check out our cover of Springsteen's Rosalita at our song section.

Also, if you havent seen Steve Brown's transformation for this show, just go to our pictures page.  You will see how science and rock and roll have come together to create a new look for the 21st Century.  This is a trend that we are sure is going to stay around for awhile.

Sat. 10/28: Tin Angel w/ Frank Brown (Buzz Zeemer/Flight of Mavis)
Category: Music

Just a quick reminder about this Saturday's big show at the Tin Angel.  This will be a GREAT night of music.  We're really excited to be sharing the stage with one of Philly's best songwriters, Frank Brown (of Flight of Mavis and Buzz Zeemer fame).  Truly, you don't want to miss this one.  Take advantage of that extra hour of Daylight Savings time!  Come rock with us late night in Olde City.  Get your tix here and save $2 on admission: http://www.ticketweb.com/user/?region=penn&query=detail&event=675898

P.S. Dinner reservations at Serrano downstairs get you primo reserved seating for the show.  Great grub too—make a reservation at 215-928-0770.

See ya there.

Oh, and check out the nice article the good folks from the Philly Inquirer ran on the Rigbees this past Sunday: http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/15803274.htm

It's good to know that—and I quote—"despite the suburban setting (i.e. the dungeon where we rehearse) and the band's gracious manner (hey, people seem to think we're good guys), the Rigbees most assuredly rock."

Thanks and see you soon…

Where Summer B?

Man, summer is flyin' by...we hope yours is going well.  We've got a
few quick updates for ya, so here goes:

1) We're very psyched to be back in the intimate surroundings of the
Tin Angel for a headlining gig on SAT. July 29th.  This is an EARLY show
(7:30 opener, Rigs go on at 8:30), so forget the "I'm not in for a late
night" excuses.  Call your dates/friends, update your personal ads
and/or reserve the sitters for a fun-filled night in Olde City.   Oh, and
be sure to reserve your tix now by visiting
http://www.ticketweb.com/user/?region=penn&query=detail&event=682011
(Psst--here's a hint, but don't tell anyone: if you're planning on
eating beforehand--recommended as the food is excellent--call (215) 928-0978
and make a dinner reservation AND they'll save you PRIMO up-front seats
while you casually dine downstairs avoiding the first-come, first serve
sitch-e-a-shun upstairs.)

2) For those of you who are lucky enough to be availing yourselves of
the Joisy Shore on the weekends (the ONLY reason you'd miss the Tin
Angel show eh?), we've got two weeknight shows coming up:

- Wed. July 19th at Sellersville Theater in--you just can't slip
anything by you, huh?--Sellersville, PA opening for The Young Dubliners with
a set beginning at 8 pm sharp.

- A WXPN/Courier Post sponsored show at the Promenade in Marlton, NJ on
Wed. July 26th, featuring a full 2-hour Rigbees set.

3) Hmmm--it feels like time for a summer special (or maybe that's just
the fifth Lord Chesterfield Ale of this evening kicking in?)
Regardless, if you haven't yet picked up the new CD or gotten in on the new
Merch, have we got a deal for you: place your order online at
http://rigbees.com/store.html by July 21st and...

a) Save $2 on the new CD (pay only $10 + s/h)

b) Save a WHOPPING $7-$9 by ordering the CD and any t-shirt of your
choice for the basement price of $20 + s/h.

(We've never done this before, but you should be able to alter the
pricing directly within PayPal when you're placing your order--just
reference this email and adjust the math accordingly and we'll take care of it
for ya.)

Okay y'all--enough for now.  Things are heating up for the band, so
please stay tuned for more important news soon.

Be well, be kind, be cool...

Thanks for your support,
Steve, John, Mitch & Kevin

Many Thanks & Many Updates
Category: Music

First off, thanks to everyone made it out to the sold out CD release show at World Café Live a few weeks ago.  We had an absolute blast and can't thank you enough for helping us celebrate the recent birth of our second shiny, circular, digital child, which weve named Treading Water in an Angry Ocean.  Check out photos of the big night here: http://www.rigbees.com/media.html (click Launch Rigbee Image Viewer); we'll be posting some very cool video clips in the coming weeks.  To pick up a copy of the new CD, visit: http://www.rigbees.com/store.html

For those of you that missed the big night, never fear--plenty of opportunities to catch a show coming up, including a very busy next two weeks:

This Friday, June 16th we're at The Puck, a brand new music club in Doylestown, PA.  Stephen Parker Band opens the show at 9 pm; Rigbees go on around 10:30 pm.  $7 cover charge at the door.  Please note that no advance tickets will be sold, so please get there early to make sure you get in and get a table--this show is likely to sell out.

On Tuesday June 20th we're excited to be headlining the Eagleview Concert Series in Exton from 7 to 9 pm.  This excellent outdoor series typically draws ~ 1500 people.  Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and friends & family to catch the Rigs in a beautiful suburban setting.  Free admission; attendees are encouraged to bring canned food items to support Safe Harbor of Greater West Chester, Philabundance and Chester County Cares.

And for all you NYC area folks, Sat June 24th we'll be at the new Opus Theater, 20 minutes outside of Manhattan.  Come early for dinner and stay for a great night of music in this posh new venue.  Opening act at 7:30; Rigbees at 8:30.

Also, we're looking forward to our debut appearance at the Sellersville Theater 1894, in lovely Sellersville on Wed. July 19th.  We'll be opening for The Young Dubliners which will be a real treat.  This is a special $10 admission show; The Rigbees go on promptly at 8pm followed by the rocking Young Dubs.  We'd love to see all you folks in the Western burbs that usually have to trek east to see us!

Lastly, we can use your help.  As most of you know, 88.5 FM WXPN has been, and continues to be, a big supporter of The Rigbees.  XPN does a great deal to provide visibility and opportunities for local Philadelphia area artists, and we're lucky to be included in that fold.

To help us continue to build the buzz around our new CD, you can request The Rigbees by emailing XPN at http://www.xpn.org/request.php or calling the station at 215-573-WXPN.  This is member supported radioso the voice of members like you REALLY makes a big difference for us!

Another way you can support the band at XPN is to post your comments, show reviews or other thoughts about the band on the XPN Bulletin Board at http://www.xpnonline.org/bb/viewforum.php?f=17

Your support in these areas really makes a HUGE difference for the band.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Okay, enough for now.  As always, thanks for listening.  We hope you have a GREAT summer and look forward to hearing from you--or better yet, seeing you--real, real soon.

As that bizarre character called Baz Luhrmann once saidWEAR SUNSCREEN.

Cheers,

Steve, John, Mitch & Kevin

CD Release Party: World Cafe Live

How the heck ya been?  You havent heard from us in awhile.  Rest assured its not because we dont love you anymore.  Its just that: a) weve been busy working on a bunch of new and exciting Rigbees stuff, and b) we tend to live by that old email adage our mothers told us as young-unsIf you dont have anything nice to say, then dont spam the bejeezus out of your friends inboxes.  Something like that.  Anyway, its good to talk again.

So, whats new with The Rigbees, you ask?  Lets see

A NEW CD:

Uh-huh.  Our new disc, Treading Water in an Angry Ocean, will finally be released next week.  Secure online pre-orders are now being accepted at http://rigbees.com/store.html#music.  As The Boss would say, Its been a long time comin but its done and we think youll dig it.  13 new tracks, featuring guest appearances by Mike SloMo Brenner, Christopher Daniel & Rod West.  Were proud of it and are looking forward to playing these songs live for you real soonon, say, Sat. May 20th (see below).  BTW, our great friends at WXPN have already begun spinning one song from the new CD.  In the coming weeks, stay tuned for more info re: 88.5 FM and other stations where you can request The Rigbees.

A CD RELEASE PARTY:

Yep.  Well be celebrating the new CD release on SAT. NEW WEBSITE(S):

Mmm-hmm.  Check out our newly redesigned site at http://www.rigbees.com.  A bunch of new content will be added in the next few weeks, but for now you can get additional info, check out our new merchandise or pre-order the new CD (street date 4/18).  We also recently succumbed to the newfangled phenomenon that is myspace and have a few tracks from the new CD streaming for your listening/download pleasure at http://www.myspace.com/rigbees.  If youre a hipster with your own myspace page, be sure to add us to your friends, subscribe to our blog, etcall the kids are doin it.

NEW T-SHIRTS:
Indeed.  Very cool new gear for guys and gals in a wide variety of styles/colors, featuring designs by Rigbees Steve Brown and Kevin Hug.  Merch will be on sale at all upcoming shows, but to guarantee the styles & sizes youre after you can order securely online at
http://rigbees.com/store.html#apparel

OKAY, ENOUGH ALREADY

Lets face it--its been way too long.  We miss you.  Line up your dates and babysitters, forward this email to your friends, round up your posse and come rock with us on SAT. 5/20.  This show just went on sale and will sell out so we strongly recommend getting your tix in advance.

New CD Update
Category: Music

Howdy Friends,

So here's the update on our soon-to-be-released second CD.  All the tracks are now in the can.  We've only got one song left to mix, then it's off to press.  Once again, we recorded at Recovery Room studios, probably the best-kept secret in our home town of Willow Grove, and worked under the talented direction and impeccable ears of producer, former band member and lifelong friend Bruce Rogers. We're excited to be mastering with Scott Hull in NYC, who's worked with artists like John Mayer, Uncle Tupelo, Bob Dylan, Matthew Sweet, Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney to name just a few.

Anyway...the CD should officially be mastered, duplicated and available by late March (early April at the latest).  We're currently planning a number of shows, including a CD release party that will most likely be at World Cafe Live in Philly.  We'll also be doing some out-o'-state shows in support of the disc as well; if you live outside the Philly area and have a particular spot you'd like to see us play, just let us know and we'll try and arrange to come see you.  Remember, "You've Got a Friend in Pennsylvania."

Okay, that's it for now.  We'll be bloggin' more regularly once all this crucial business of finishing the CD is over with.  We're also gonna start working on our next batch of tunes right away--who knows, maybe we'll even get to releasing another disc or two by the end of 2006.  I mean, someone's gotta try to keep up with Ryan Adams, right?

Be well,
Steve
