Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) Slams Poison!
Joe Elliot Slams Poison!
I know, it's kinda old news at this point, but I must say a few words about Joe Elliot (Def Leppard) talkin' some smack about Poison and Motley. Mainly because he is continuing to talk smack in other interviews as well.
Some of Joe's commets >They (Motley Crue and Poison) didn't have any substance musically, I don't think, in comparison to us, so we didn't feel we needed to do it. Bands that do that are doing it to cover up the fact that there is no substance in their music.< ( More can be found at: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=100855 ) Now, I'm sure Motley can defend themselves, so I'll leave that alone and Bret did cover it rather well. However, I was talkin' with some friends last night and we were shaking our heads wondering when Joe became a rock historian. Well, Joe, when did ya? Do you think saying bad things about another band makes people like your band more? Oh, no. Can't be it. Let me guess, "You were JUST being honest." Look, I have always enjoyed Def Leppard. But, as of late that pre-programmed, Mutt Lang live record you guys are doing out there on tour is anything but "substance". JUST being honest.
Joe! I'd be hurt if this were coming from John Lennon. Listen up, you are not quite that important there fella! Ya know, just like you I put my pants on one leg at a time, but when I put mine on Joe, they are cooler than yours! But, does it really matter? So it takes about 1 minute and 45 seconds to put on eyeliner. I suppose during that same time you were writing the next "Imagine". In the words of the great Aerosmith, "Get a grip!" Oh, and by the way, just to add to your royal information pool of rock history, Sir Joe, in the 70's it was "Glitter Rock", in the 80's it was Glam Rock.

Poison Drummer Rikki Rockett Opposes Rodeo Animal Abuse
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For Immediate Release 7/1/08~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Poison Drummer Rikki Rockett Opposes Rodeo Animal Abuse When Poison drummer Rikki Rockett signed to play a July 5 show in Greeley, Colorado, he wasn't told that the venue was part rock show and part rodeo. Rockett, a dedicated animal advocate for over sixteen years, was shocked to learn the truth. "I had no idea that this gig included a rodeo. I have a huge problem with animal cruelty at rodeos. Greeley is a huge rodeo, which means an enormous amount of animal abuse! I am blown away that I missed the description of this show on our touring schedule printout." Working with Los Angeles-based Last Chance for Animals (LCA), Rockett has worked with LCA founder Chris DeRose to expose the Animal "B" Dealer Rings and Puppy Mill atrocities. Rockett returns to his native state of Pennsylvania every September to help rally support to stop the puppy mills around Lancaster, PA. "You don't have to be an animal rights activist to see how these rodeos hurt the animals. It isn't a matter of perspective or opinion – animal suffering, injuries and death are all part of rodeos." Rockett specifically decries the use of electric shock, buck straps, and spurs regularly used in rodeos, known as "Tools of Torment" to animal advocates. As the rodeo industry has attempted to expand, the need to put on a more exciting show has resulted in more abuse, especially since some events are partly scored on how wild an animal acts. When asked if he will perform with Poison that night, Rockett stated, "I represent one quarter of Poison, not Poison as a band. My band mates do understand my feelings about this. I don't own the band, but Poison isn't Poison without me. I have decided to keep my commitment to the fans and educate them about rodeo cruelty at the same time. However, this is the last gig like this, and the rest of the band agrees with that."
"Rodeos, often advertised as an American tradition," Rockett concludes, "so I am asking the promoter of this "American tradition" to also honor another American tradition, Freedom of Speech. I want people who oppose rodeos on the basis of cruelty to be able to distribute information at the show. It's only fair and hopefully it will help better the treatment of the animals." Rockett heard about the Greeley Rodeo from Steve Hindi. Hindi is the president of SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness), an animal protection organization with fifteen years of experience investigating rodeos nationwide. In just the last year, SHARK has exposed animal abuse at over a dozen rodeos, including such major events as the Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Denver Stock Show and Rodeo, the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, and the Tucson Rodeo. The Tucson Rodeo was produced by Bennie and Rhett Beutler, the same stock contractors who are producing the Greeley Stampede Rodeo. In May, the rock band Matchbox 20 withdrew from the 2008 entertainment lineup for the Cheyenne Frontier Days, citing concerns about rodeo animal abuse. Carrie Underwood withdrew from the Cheyenne Frontier Days lineup in 2006.
Exoneration Party A Success!
I couldn't be happier with the benefit/party yesterday. Starting out the day, the Ride was a perfect combo of twisties and long curving roads with beautiful scenery. Kudos to my Brit Iron Rebels club brethren for putting it together!
The party was as fun as I pictured it to be, but the surprising thing was how well the charity auction went. We raised several thousand dollars for Centurion Ministries on the auction alone! This money and other silent contributions will go directly to help those who are innocent and do not have the resources to get decent legal help. Many of these people are on death row awaiting execution for a crime they did not commit.
Thank you to all who helped with contributions: Off Broadway Bistro, DW Drums, Red Monkey Designs, Toni from L'Oreal, High Desert Animal Clinic, Sweetwater Cafe, Street Sports Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Glory Sales and Service, Rockett Drum Works, and the numerous individual contributions both monetarily and otherwise.
This party was simply a kick off to an idea. I hope to do this annually as a benefit while maintaining the spirit of the excitement of a party. after all, we are the lucky ones with the freedom. Celebrate it everyday.
Rikki’s Benefit This Saturday!!!
The RIKKI ROCKETT
is Exonerated Party
|
You Do Not have to ride or even have a motorcycle to come to this event, but
if you do ride and want to join us we would love to have you!
| | RIDE INFO:
10:15 am
The plan is to meet at the Arco station at the corner of Irwindale Avenue and Foothill Blvd in Irwindale.
Irwindale Avenue is the first exit off the 210 freeway
east of the 605, then go one block north to Foothill. It is right across the freeway from the Miller
brewery. There is a Farmer Boys restaurant, kind of a high class (?) hamburger place that serves breakfast just south of the Arco if anyone wants to get there early and eat before the ride. Bikes should be gassed and everyone ready to ride at
10:15. The route is great! There's everything from ultra tight twisties to wide open stretches of Old Route 66. The plan is to get to the intersection of Mt. Emma Road and Angeles Forest Highway at around 2:00. A quick lunch stop at a taco stand in Wrightwood is planned.
