What is 'RA' ?
It's been a while since I answered some basic questions that a lot of you have and since so many new people are with us now I think it's time I did so again. It's a little long but I'll try to keep it an interesting read and should answer most of your questions.
In the Beginning.....
The original Rock Angel page went up on Valentine's Day of 2006, not as some well thought out concept but half as a joke for some of my female rocker pals who complained about being alone on V Day.
The other reason I created this page was that I noticed there were plenty of places on the internet that showcased beautiful women but not specifically the rocker and metal babes, the only kind I've ever been into. In fact, no other kind of chick even comes close, no matter how 'hot' they are.
So I put a page with 8 of my hottie rocker friends on it and called it 'Rock Angel'. I bulletined my myspace friends to check it out and a few more girls asked to be put on the page, who in turn bulletined their friends and even more girls wrote in asking to be put up. And the cycle continued.
After a while I added a RnR questionaire and had them post their 'application' answers as a comment on this page. Go ahead and go back to the first several pages of comments on this page and you'll see them.
You've no doubt seen countless 'contest' type myspace pages by now, but at the time there were none, not that I was aware of anyway, so we just made it up as we went along. It was all in fun and becoming a great way for RnR and Metal people on here to meet up.
I didn't have a screening process per se, everyone who 'applied' got an RA picture frame on their picture but I posted the best pics on the page and called it 'Heaven'. That's why you'll see so many RA pics out there on people's myspace pages but they don't appear anywhere on this page. There are over 600 of them. Many of them are hot hot but lacked the pic quality to get onto the front page. They are free to submit new pics at any time.
As this page, traffic and friend's list grew I got more and more strict on the requirements, even trying an experiment in 'democracy' and letting everyone else pick the 'Angels'. All of you who were here for that must remember the CHAOS that ensued. Entertaining and busy, but also drama laden and some people were outright crude, rude and mean to some of the applicants. So I created the 'hottie scout' profile to make submissions private and let in the 'mob' only in the final stage of choosing new Angels.
The RA Rock N Roll Pimps
The 'Pimps' page started as a blog on this page in an effort to show off some of the most pimped out RnR myspace pages that I came across and thought I'd share them with all of you along with letting everyone submit their page for 'review'. In that blog Jilly and Stacy took upon themselves to be the judge, jury and in some cases brutal executioner (if their page was NOT Rock/Metal) and did it so well that we created a new page and I turned it over to them completely. You'll find that page in the top friends.
The RA Bands Page
Hot rock chicks are great of course, but what about the bands? There are no rock chicks without rock bands and I wanted a place to give the bands some exposure while letting some of you write the 'reviews'. We had a great run of several months and found some amazingly talented and funny writers but I just don't have the time anymore to keep it going, which is why it's sat idle for the last several months.
Rock Devil
Ok, I have no interest in 'hot rock dudes'. It's the straight in me I guess but I couldn't ignore the girls call for the guys to be showcased so I posted a few 'Rock Devil' blogs on this page and let the guys submit themselves for review by the ladies. Lamb for the slaughter is more like it =) But it turned out so popular that it needed it's own page, so my good friend and partner FJ made 'Rock Devil'. Like the 'RA Bands' page, we had a great run but he's been so busy with other projects that we just haven't been able to keep it going. That may change at any time, but for now 'RD' is on hold.
Why is it so hard to become a Rock Angel?
You may have seen all of the RA knockoffs and copycat pages, and it is flattering, but in a sense there are no Rock Angel knock offs because RA is the only one that sets high standards, or any standards at all. And that's ok, seriously. All of those other sites are just for fun and I encourage anyone who wants to to play along.
But about 6 months ago the Rock Angel mission became clear.....
Rock and Metal lost it's place as the dominant music in popular culture, losing it to that manufactured pop shit and Hip Hop garbage that surrounds us now. Once that happened, the 'Rock Chick' seemed to almost go unnoticed, in favor of those vapid, plastic pop princesses and hip hop hoes.
Fuck that. Rock Angel is here to reclaim the throne for rocker and metal babes as the most desired women in the world. Young girls should want to be the next Lita Ford, not Paris Hilton (that's NOT hot!)
In order to do that, we need HOT rocker babes with good quality photos. Period. Everyone is welcomed (and encouraged!!) to participate and even suggest the fun blogs and contests that we do here, but to 'earn your wings' as an Angel is not easy and only a small percentage have what it takes.
How are Angels chosen?
Applications open and close periodically. Check the 'RA Hottie Scout' page. Generally they open up for a couple of weeks every 2 months. They are now closed.
