The OHSRA-ORA Marathon

A precedent was set in 2007. The Canadian May "2-4" Long-Weekend, celebrating Queen Victoria's Birthday becomes a Marathon as the Ontario High School Rodeo Association Finals and the Roping Association of Ontario Finals' take place on the same weekend. Fortunately one ends before the next begins, however it leaves no room for relaxation if you're working them. Last year they were both held at the same venue, and in '08, they were 10 minutes apart from each other, which wasn't too bad.

From Stratford Rodeo...I don’t BS!!!

I freestyle a lot, and I HAD to do what I said...I came up with this bad boy on my own...thanks!
So, as part of the "Great Refrigerator Round-up" across Ontario, you buy a new fridge (a more energy efficient one, which is any fridge/freezer), and call Hydro...they take your old one away at No Charge, and you could save up to $150/year...
In Stratford, they had a mascot...a Fridge.
Announcer Joey says, "Hey, if you have a digital camera, be sure that you get a picture of yourself with the Fridge, and where will you put that picture? The picture of you and a Fridge?.... c'mon, play along....ON YOUR FRIDGE"
So, never a hypocrit, and always the one to take it to a new level...
here's a picture of a picture of me and a fridge ON MY FRIDGE.
The only way you can trump that one is to...well, I don't think you can!!!!

though it was 3pm on a Sunday, it was like 3am on a Saturday..."the Fridge was Talking to me, Man!!!"

"Vwat are you doing der?"...I got hit by a car...

So, I Super Dave Osbourned it today.
If you've been reading my notes: http://blog.myspace.com/rodeoannouncer... you'll have read about my rodeo adventures, cooking experiences, and now....the I got hit by a car story.
They say you should get your eyes checked every year. I call BS on that, especially when it's the optricians who recommend it. Oh yeah...I'm a conspiracist...like dentists tell you to brush 3 times a day...I think Toothpaste causes cavities...of course they want you to get those...but I digress...
Anywho...
I go in for my eye exam, 4 years since my last one. My perscription has moved up just a lil' bit, but, it's good to get new lenses with the current needs of my lookers, so, I upgraded. My lenses were scratched baaaaaad anyway.
So, they dilated my eyes. They warn you not to drive for 3 hours. Once again, I call BS on that, because I have a slogan..."I'm Joe %$'n Scully, mo fo!"
I purchase my lenses...and of course, have to wait an hour, and I go shopping. I'm a little freaked because I can't read my Blackberry clearly. I go shopping for my sis' bday present. The item selected from her list is NOT AT THE MALL, however, I find out that there's a nearby store that has it.
So what does the Dilated Dummy do? Prepares to drive.
Well, apparently, the pupils are sensitive to light (hence the Blackberry problems...it has a bitchin' bright screen)...
I stroll out of the mall...through the side exit by Mall Administration...open the door, it's WAAAY Bright out...two steps across the sidewalk, across the street/parking lot....WHAM!
I walked into a moving taxi cab.
Yup. I didn't see it. I habitually glanced left and right, but, the sun was bright, and I guess I saw White, and that was alright...
luckily, I'm spry, and instead of Super Dave Osbourning it across the hood, I was able to do a lil' spin and stop myself with my hands.
Ol' Tajhinder Taxi-guy gets out, "Vwat are you doing der?"
and I said, "directing traffic, you didn't see me?"
It didn't hurt, but it scared the heck out of me.
Then, I proceeded to go to the truck and drive to the store...Nyce! I almost wrecked about 6 times across my 4 turns and 1/2 mile trip.

Into the store I ventured...wearing my huge-ass Sunglasses, as my eyes are burning...my pupils were dialated, and my eyes were WIDE OPEN from freaking out....and I couldn't see a thing...
But, Ray Charles was able to make his purchase and return to the mall without accident...ok, without more than one accident.
So, let me hop on a soap box...don't drive with Dialated Eyes. Don't Shop with Dialated Eyes. But if you do...wear a helmut!

The Popcorn Incident

So, the other night, I kinda head home after having a few Keith's with an old friend, and upon arrival back at the homestead, I'm craving a few more.
Chatting on the phone, I down a few more, (it's like 1am Sunday Night...), and then I get a lil' hungy.
Scanning the cupboards, Bachelor Joey didn't purchase any snacks on his last few grocery excursions...however, ex-y left some popcorn behind. So, I think, BONUS!
Now, if it was Joey, it would be simple Microwave Popcorn, but ex-y decided that popcorn made on the stove was better for some reason...so, I try to figure the mess out.
I get directions off the phone.
"use oil"
"ummm, no oil. Corn Starch?"
"no, oil"
"there isn't any. Soy Sauce?"
"no, oil"
"this will work. Balsamic Vinegar?"
"no, you need oil, otherwise it'll burn!"
"oh, ok. I'll use PAM"
"ummmm, maybe not a good idea. But, if you must, use A LOT"
I spray away, load 'er up, and of course, go to the other room. Why? I have no idea.
All of a sudden, I hear, BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP...a nice Fire Alarm at 1:30 in the am...
I go running down the hall...

I'm a little gunned at this point, so, I'm about to Stop, Drop, and Roll. Not on purpose either...hahaha, I'm like "Oh, MY GOSH! hehehe...hick"
I grab the smoking pot and take it outside

Coughing, I assess how much popcorn is edible...

about six kernals, and I eat those bad boys.
And the most upsetting of the entire ordeal?

My clean stove got wrecked. Who knew me and the appliances had so much in common????!!!!

Scully: Bull Riding in Leamington, ON

This is how cool technology and rodeo fans are...
I was in Leamington, ON for a rodeo.  There weren't enough people riding the Mechanical Bull, so, I decided to "plug it"...the Scully way...
with my wireless monitors and wireless mic, I did my big plug walking over to it, hopped on, and rode it.  Buddy put it on real slow, and I was like calling him on over the mic...haha.
Fans took pics, googled me, and e-mailed them to me.
Leamington Rocks!!!!

back from the Sunshine State

A lil' suntan, and a lil' wore out, I returned from Florida.
It was a sweet trip, and definitely a memorable and rewarding experience.
Upon landing, I found out that the Dodge Charger I was expecting was not available. In lieu of it, they gave me a Cadillac DTS. Phat and Fly, I cruised in my Chris Ledoux Cowboy Cadillac. I re-adjusted the eq for some solid bass, lowered the seat to the floor, and matt'd it every time I touched the gas.....
The venue for the Rodeo Finals was pretty pristine...the Jacksonville Equestrian Center. It has like a 150' x 300' arena floor, and is designed just for horse related events. The cooling system were massive fans, ironically called, "Big Ass Fans"....that did a good job for the crowd, but the timing/announcing compound was about 15 degrees warmer...
My arch-nemesis quickly presented itself...a massive echo and sound delay. Patched into the house sound, it was almost an entire second between my voice saying "Hi", and it going to the speakers, and back to me...120' away... it made announcing challenging. I would slow down to enunciate and accentuate something, and subconsciously wait to hear if it came out right, and then...stutter. Continue on a few words, get flustered due to the stutter...then, stutter again. I overcame this by using an earplug the second performance...once I got used to focusing on my voice in my head, I hammered on...stutter free, even...haha.
The last performance ended sensationally. As there were only timed events, the show-stopper was Pole Bending. As the event played itself out over the rounds, the top 3 contestants were 4 points apart going in, and the gap spread to 6 going into the last round...and one of the 3 knocked a pole for a penalty. 2nd last to run was the new season leader who had jumped from third to first. She took the lead of the go and the aggregate. The last one to run had to "get 'er done."
Production wise, it was timed perfect. I had time to deliver the set-up to the "T".
"It comes......down...to....this". .." Win the finals, win the year." And she beat the time she needed to do by about ¼ of a second to win the go as well.
As expected, I learned a lot of proper pronunciations of Southern Towns....Kissimmee...is actually Kuh-sea-me and so on.
But the payoff at the end was the clincher...tons of congrats and a few referrals...nyce!
From the top of the Association down to the contestants, everyone made me feel extremely welcome, and I truly experienced Southern Hospitality!
Prior to my flight home, I went for one more cruise...down to the ocean. Unfortunately, I didn't really plan for this, though. So, I ventured to the beach in shorts and cowboy boots. Into the Atlantic I went...and the waves were enormous. I was giggling as I swam...so much that I choked in some salt water. Tapping on the excursion after almost being swept away in the rip tide, I walked out of the ocean, and was 4 feet from the shore as this kid beside me started screaming and WHAM, a wave took me out at the shins...good times.
The flights home were as eventful as the flights down. Flight #1's pilot was having a bad day....decided that a slow decent wasn't going to suffice, and dropped the nose without warning...and the plane sped waaaay up. The seatbelt light came on, then the no-smoking sign started flashing. The seat in front of mine's light started flickering...I thought we were going down....but, after this Top Gun move, the pilot came on and said that we were going to be early.... I was like, "are we? Do you really think so?" Early for the ultimate last ride maybe... Flight #2 was on a jet...uneventful, other than my gratis Spanish lesson for 2.5 hours between Atlanta and Buffalo.
Well, home to rest then off on the road again. I wonder what kind of an adventure I'm going to go on next?!

Every day is an adventure....(cue "Welcome to my life")

Yesterday (Wednesday), I was in Ottawa.  Good times.  Got a Flat Tire, and had to replace 2 tires, due to my previous frugalness....nyce.
On new rubber, I whipped over a hill into a speed trap.  Ticket....down from $200 to $50.  Buddy must have like me.  Nyce again!
Now today, Thursday, I embarked on my Florida Trip.
Leaving Buffalo....held on tarmac for 40 minutes.  Not too bad...other than I'm with Bertha and Bessie.  I don't think the lady at the front counter liked me...stuck me with a heifer and her baby heifer....
Mamma sat in her seat, and 30% of her girl's.  Her girl sat in 40% of my seat.  Almost in my lap.  And she was like, "I'm hot.  I'm hungry.  I'm thirsty.  I wanna go.  I'm hungry."  the whole time...we were on the Tarmac.
So...always trying to wage a battle....once we were in the air, I pulled out the ol' Laptop, and would do a few ctrl-C's....which meant left elbow attacked massive roll stage left.
I thought she was going to cry when all they gave us for a "snack" were pretzels.  THEN...my ears went all over-pressure....and I could still hear her chewing her cud, I mean, gum.  Ok....she sounds like she was 10...she was atleast 25.  Yummy.
So, the whole while I was flying into our connecting city, Charlotte, NC, I was wondering, "is that where the NASCAR Race is"?  I wanted to ask the Blubber twins, being how close we were...but, I decided to sleuth it out by preening my neck around during the approach.  No dice, couldn't see it.  But, there are a ton of themed restaurants and shops in the Airport, so I'm guessing....yes.
Oh, and connecting flight?  Delayed 2 hours.  Nice. Atleast they have internet...now...where did my watch go???
Adios!
