Calling Reverend All Green: Come Sing a Song at the "Al Green Theatre"!
Category: Music

Now here's  a coincidence:

The same night Ron Davis is playing at  The Al Green Theatre, Thursday June 19, Reverend Al Green will be singing in Toronto!

The Theatre is not named for the celebrated 70's singer of such R&B hits as Let's Stay Together. Still, his name does come to mind.

So, we thought we'd put out the invitation. Reverend Green- we'd love for you to come sing one song at the theatre that bears the same name as you, with Ron Davis! We start at 8:00 o'clock. There's time before you go on stage elsewhere.

If you're reading this Reverend Al, we hope you can make it. It'll be a blast. And if you're reading this, but you're not reverend Al - pass it on!

Thursday June 19. 8:00pm. It's going to be an evening of music and enjoyment. Why buy your tickets now? Because, we don't want you to miss the fun!

Ron's return to downtown Toronto's Al Green Theatre at the Miles Nadal JCC, at 8:00pm on June 19, 2008 is much awaited. His last concert there, in 2006, was a full-house triumph. Now, he is coming with a unique sextet. Two first-call bass players: Mike Downes and Drew Birston--  giving new meaning to "double bass"! --join Ron, Richard Underhill (sax), Sasha Boychouk (sax, clarinet) and Ted Warren (drums).

You'll hear Ron's original songs, and not-so-standard jazz standards. You'll hear music from Ron's fifth CD, Subarashii Live (soo-ba-ra-shee - Japanese for "great"). It was 1 on Chart Attack's college chart.  Wholenote Magazine called it "Awesome". And of course, you'll hear Ron's engaging audience talk. Expect to be entertained.

Kick off the summer with this concert at the Al Green Theatre. We're expecting a sellout, so order early! Tickets are available by phone 416-924-6211 ex.0, or in person at the MNjcc. It'll be a sizzling evening.

Critically acclaimed jazz pianist Ron Davis ("One of Canada's A-list Pianists"- CFRB) returns to the Al Green Theatre at the Miles Nadal JCC with his sextet on June 19th, 2008.  Always looking to expand the musical experience and enjoyment, Ron's unique sextet features TWO of Canada's top double bass players, Mike Downes and Drew Birston. The group wil be   playing original compositions as well as jazz standards.  Rounding out the superb band are Richard Underhill, Sasha Boychouk and Ted Warren.

Ron's fifth CD, Subarashii Live, (pronounced:  soo-ba-ra-shee - Japanese for "great") has received fabulous response on radio, reaching 1 for two weeks on Chart Attack's college radio chart.  Wholenote Magazine called the CD "Awesome" and JAZZ FM Host, Jaymz Bee says 'I Love this CD'.

Lawyer, turned PhD graduate, turned professor, metamorphosed into full time pianist, composer and arranger, Ron has traveled a long path to find his life's passion. Throughout his many professional incarnations, jazz was never far from his mind. His extensive body of work points to strong musical roots in stride piano and swing, while retaining a clean and straight-ahead style. The Toronto Star compared Davis' technique and enthusiasm to a young Oscar Peterson, and his compositions to early Dave Brubeck. Other critics likened his virtuoso flashes to Art Tatum.
