what’s going on?
a whole hell of a lot.
check out my picture album of shots from the laughing EP release show
the new misprint magazine is almost ready to debut. it's called the grown up issue, and there's never been a more apt title. that seems to be all i'm dealing with lately.
i'm wrapping up some artwork for funfunfun fest - posters and flyers and stuff. keep an eye out in the online and real worlds
my birthday!!! this thursday at side bar, come for some free lonestar. and then on sunday i'm having a joint party with my hetero life / bocce partner bryan cirelli. 6pm and on for grilling, bocce and kegs. east side, canterbury street.
and then, after a short week - san francisco. i know i'm seeing bad religion, but other than that i'm wandering the city for 6 days.

Spring?
spring has found me to be monotonously busy, but i’ve been able to break from it and take on some pretty cool stuff too. my energy lately feels more pent up than anything- on the negative side that means i’ll find myself festering in stuff / ideas that i really don’t need to give a second thought to, but on the plus side, when i can finally break out and create it feels even more exhilarating.
SXSW Blog If you haven’t checked it out, you really should. I managed a small team this year and the coverage was great. If you’ve never thought about SXSW from a branding perspective, it’s actually quite fascinating. http://www.dn3sxsw.wordpress.com
British Sea Power poster I haven’t done a gigposter since the Beard & Moustache Competition. This one is done in the same style, a method that’s been gratifying from both a technical and a visual standpoint.

Roundobject.com If you haven’t visited my site in a while, maybe there’s something new there for you to see
Tribeza Yeah, I was profiled in their March issue. I swear they asked me to do it. It was a fun shoot, and if nothing else I ended up becoming friends with the photographer.
Twitter.com I <3 twitter. you should get on it. roundobject
Misprint Slowly but surely we’re framing the new issue. Oh yes, there will be a new issue. It’s funny, it feels like every release of Misprint is some sort of "comeback" issue. I actually don’t mind that. It keeps everything urgent, and fresh, never dull. Every time a new one comes out the ideas get better and better. Stay tuned.

what am i listening to / watching /reading lately
i'm really digging the album by miracle fortress. i have a soft spot for phil spector / bryan wilson influenced stuff, but there's one song in particular that i can't get out of my brain.
times new viking is pretty rad too. i want to see them. i am avoiding as much as possible the vampire weekend album because every magazine is telling me that i should like it, even GQ, and GQ is really lame. i know because i subscribe to it.
i'm way into arrested development. the third season is really bizarre, but still entertaining. the more i rewatch it the more i pick up on little jokes they plant several shows ahead. i also found big trouble in little china at target for 5 bucks. i should have bought all the copies they had and given them out as presents to people i love. nothing says i love you like 2 hours of jack burton.
i'm reading Indecision right now. it came out a few years ago as a debut buzz novel and i even picked it up back then, but never clicked with it. i'm still not really clicking with it. maybe because it's a first novel, but it's also very First Novel-ly. Not that i don't love the Eggerses, Froers, Chabons of the world, i just don't think this one stands up. matt bearden also lent me a dwell magazine. that shit is haute.

what am i watching/reading/listening to?
Current mood: apathetic
well i actually haven't watched too much of anything lately.. i saw shoot 'em up not too long ago. other than an unfortunately misused apostrophe in the film title it was pretty enjoyable. i'm checking that new cronenberg movie this weekend as well. two whole minutes of aragorn's dong, so i've heard. bitching.
i'm reading this book called "microtrends" right now, by the guy who coined the term "soccer mom." it's a book of about 80 different subcultural trends going on right now. i'm also reading my books on copenhagen, because i'm still going, but unfortunately my trip had to be postponed...
on the music front, the new les savy fav album is awesome. so is the new animal collective. the new short film album i can't really get into yet. a couple tracks are good, but overall i think it's way too self-indulgent. whatever that means.

i’m listening to stuff... it’s 2000?
i've been thinking a lot about a particular time of my life in richmond, VA, back when i was in art school, it was my 3rd year and probably one of the most prolifically creative times of my life. it was the only point in my life where i truly felt that i could do anything i wanted to. these feelings were also combined with my love for the apartment i lived in, on park avenue. my room was just a perfect, nice-proportioned, beautiful old victorian room where i would stay up late into the night designing things, writing, painting and composing music. i listened over and over again to a very small group of albums with instrumental leanings and i've been putting them back into my regular rotation recently.
-everything by michael hedges: probably one of the best guitar players/composers ever. his instrumental work was really varied but always captivating. his albums were always classified as "new age" which, even though i am sure he leaned/espoused whatever "new age" means, his albums to me were always more universal. he died even before i picked up my first album by him, of a car crash back in 97 i believe.
-red snapper's "making bones": i was way into jazz at that time, and this is just some random jazz/electronic/british hip hop album that i came across. if this album came out now people would probably still dig it.
-"shri durga" by dj cheb i sabbah: a cool mashup of traditional subcontinental indian music and electronic beats. it's pretty trippy and i think i used to play this album while lighting incense (yup) and turned on the blue-only christmas lights i had taped across my ceiling.
