Artist Statement
As a Teen and into my 20's I was searching for what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was told I should "do what I love!" In my search for a career I forgot what I loved. I remembered in the summer of 2005.
SOME HISTORY
..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I was 14, in middle school the first time I made something out of clay. In high school I loved working with clay so much I would skip other classes to make mugs, bowls, and art. Please don't tell my principal; I've been out of school for years, but he was a scary guy and I'm not taking any chances.
After High School I worked as a production potter for two years. In those two years I made over 14,000 pieces. Two years of practice, practice, practice, and then practice some more. That's when working on the wheel became second nature.
After doing production pottery I got a "real job". I stopped doing what I loved and dove into the world of business. I was successful; I worked and worked, and then worked some more.
When I discovered the pointlessness of pushing for a little bit more I decided to figure out what contentment is all about. The summer of 2005, in a very dynamic way I discovered there is a God and He loves me. I also rediscovered my love of working with clay.
TODAY
Today I'm co-owner of The Potters Shop, a collaborative gallery and studio. We are located at 335 W Main Street downtown Waukesha right across from a Mom and Pop coffee shop. What more could a guy ask for?
I have a great respect for master craftsmen and artists. Some of my influences are classic Greek and Roman art, well made furniture, and fine architecture. In other words, things made with passion and skill. When I look at a well made piece of work, it's exciting. I can almost feel the concentration and focus used to create it.
In my work I strive for symmetry and balance. Everything in the piece is important to me; the lip, the foot, the handle, and the way each part compliments the whole. Whether it's a simple mug or an elaborate piece of art I pay close attention to the entire piece. I know a piece is finished when I can look at it and smile.
I hope you will love my work as much I do, and if you do love it - buy it; or smile with me. What greater joy is there than to share the work you love? My name is Ryan Pederson and I make pottery.

Yesterday I made a bunch of sushi bowls. Today I'll make all the lids.

This is a picture from the front window of The Potters Shop.

Friends
I have lots of friends. I am thankfully for all the different friends that I know.
I've made my friends in different ways. In real life we go out and do stuff or sit and talk. I really like sitting and talking with a good friend.
I've never been friends with somebody who couldn't do either. I've never had some body in real life walk up to me with a sign saying they want to be my friend. That is stalker material.
My friends have the right to do what ever they want. If they are into something I'm not into, thats cool. I just don't do that with them. They understand. If their foundational beliefs which make up who they are and dictate the majority of their actions are different from mine, thats cool. They can go do that. I may or may not be around. They understand.
If you are a girl that wants to be my myspace friend and you objectify your self to men, and want me to do the same thing, I won't. I won't be your Internet friend. I'd rather get to know you for who you are, not for your body.
If you are a person who hates God and you want to be my myspace friend, it just wouldn't work. You may go do what thou wilt, but not around me. I know where that path is going. I don't think I have to be your friend to love you.

The Potters Shop
Category: Art and Photography
This is what I've been up to for the last few months.
About nine of us potters got together back in February with a crazy idea. A few of us had a chance to work together in the same studio making art in clay. We loved it! Working with other like minded people is excellent. There is a different, more powerful creative energy that gets stirred up. We wanted to make this happen again.
A few months later and a lot of hard work, we have the beginnings of The Potters Shop, home to the Waukesha Clay Art Guild (WCAG). It's located right down town Waukesha off Main st. right in the heart of it all. 335 W Main to be specific. We hope to be fully open in early June. We have a lot more work to do till then.
The best thing about the WCAG is that we set it up to be non-profit. The surplus money from members dues and gallery sales will go part back to the guild and part back to the community. For the guild we will buy new equipment. for the community, one big thing we want to do is help send a local high school potter to college. We don't want to just be turned in our self's. We want to help the community that were a part of.
Thats it for now. I'll update ya'll in the future. Ryan the Potter.
