Barack Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. His father, Barack Obama Sr., was born and raised in a small village in Kenya, where he grew up herding goats with his own father, who was a domestic servant to the British.
Barack's mother, Ann Dunham, grew up in small-town Kansas. Her father worked on oil rigs during the Depression, and then signed up for World War II after Pearl Harbor, where he marched across Europe in Patton's army. Her mother went to work on a bomber assembly line, and after the war, they studied on the G.I. Bill, bought a house through the Federal Housing Program, and moved west to Hawaii.
It was there, at the University of Hawaii, where Barack's parents met. His mother was a student there, and his father had won a scholarship that allowed him to leave Kenya and pursue his dreams in America.
Barack's father eventually returned to Kenya, and Barack grew up with his mother in Hawaii, and for a few years in Indonesia. Later, he moved to New York, where he graduated from Columbia University in 1983.
It has been the rich and varied experiences of Barack Obama's life - growing up in different places with people who had differing ideas - that have animated his political journey. Amid the partisanship and bickering of today's public debate, he still believes in the ability to unite people around a politics of purpose - a politics that puts solving the challenges of everyday Americans ahead of partisan calculation and political gain.
In the Illinois State Senate, this meant working with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. He also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.
In the U.S. Senate, he has focused on tackling the challenges of a globalized, 21st century world with fresh thinking and a politics that no longer settles for the lowest common denominator. His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. He has also been the lead voice in championing ethics reform that would root out Jack Abramoff-style corruption in Congress.
As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan. Recognizing the terrorist threat posed by weapons of mass destruction, he traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world. And knowing the threat we face to our economy and our security from America's addiction to oil, he's working to bring auto companies, unions, farmers, businesses and politicians of both parties together to promote the greater use of alternative fuels and higher fuel standards in our cars.
Whether it's the poverty exposed by Katrina, the genocide in Darfur, or the role of faith in our politics, Barack Obama continues to speak out on the issues that will define America in the 21st century. But above all his accomplishments and experiences, he is most proud and grateful for his family. His wife, Michelle, and his two daughters, Malia, 9, and Sasha, 6, live on Chicago's South Side.

He has done several Master Classes through the years for colleges, but those were only open to their students, so you never heard of them. So, we are trying something different.... his own Master Class. Persuaded by colleagues, acting coaches, agents and performers to bring his experience to Los Angeles, Sam will be taking a limited number of students for the first (and perhaps only) time for a 4 day master class.
This Master Class is for you if:
You consider yourself a singer first, who wants to learn how to explore the depth of your material from an acting perspective
You consider yourself a musical theatre actor who wants to stretch and break through limitations
You are a professional actor who must perform the same material again, and again, and it is becoming lifeless and pat.

You consider yourself a non-singing Actor, who wants to feel comfortable when asked to sing.
You know you have a great voice, but you still don't get the job.

CLASS SCHEDULE: Four Sundays, from November 2nd - 23rd. November 2nd, 9th and 16th: 10 students per class will perform and then work with Sam.
Please prepare two songs (no longer than 3 minutes each) and bring music for piano accompaniment.
November 23rd: In the final class, special expert guests will be in attendance to observe and comment on return performances. Guests will be announced at a later date, but will include Bruce H. Newberg, Casting Director for The Hollywood Bowl Summer Musicals, Reprise LA! and television's The Closer and Trust Me. (Note: Not all students will bring back material for final class.)
This Master Class will be limited to 30 participating students. Each student will have one-on-one work with Sam in a class setting. (Non-participants may audit for a lesser fee!)

A self-proclaimed lyric freak, he explains his view on his signature piece, Raitt's song: "If you took away the music, just saying it would be so powerful." When asked what or who Harris was thinking about when he recorded it, in one take, tears were rolling down his cheeks, as he simply states, "No. And I'll tell you why: It changes all of the time."
Just like his hopes for son Cooper, he wants his fans to be positively provoked as well. "When I see a piece of theater, I want to laugh, cry, think ; I want to experience a collection of emotions. There is a power when strangers meet and have a common experience ; it is so valuable. We need to laugh, cry ; with people. And you find that experience in the theater."
On Oct. 4, Harris's focused show will teach;and allow the audience to let go. "I will perform songs from Free, in addition to my signature songs. I don't get tired of performing those because a good song always changes for me. Over The Rainbow, Bridge Over Troubled Water; I get to reinvestigate them all the time."
One SLO fan raved about Harris, "From the moment Sam was onstage, I couldn't take my eyes off of him. I laughed so hard my eyes and mouth were sore. I cried. And I felt his tremendous, hopeful, and beautiful energy. I was blown away by his performance. '"Slacker Uprising" takes place in the wake of "Fahrenheit 9/11," during the run-up to the 2004 election, as I traveled for 42 days across America, visiting 62 cities in a failed attempt to remove George W. Bush from office. My goal was to help turn out a record number of young voters and others who had never voted before. (That part was a success. Young adults voted in greater numbers than in any election since 18-year-olds were given the right to vote. And the youth vote was the only age group that John Kerry won.)
What I encountered during the tour and the filming was both inspiring and frightening, so I thought, hey, this might make for a funny and enlightening movie! Each night, thousands would show up to volunteer in the Slacker Army against Bush. This drove local Republicans nuts. In one state they tried to have me arrested. At two colleges, rich donors offered to donate more money to the college if they would ban me from campus. Nearly a half-dozen universities kept the Slacker Uprising tour off their campuses. But there was no stopping this movement. By the time we got to Florida, 16,000 people a night were showing up.
It was clear that young people were the ones who were going to save the day -- just as they are in this year's election.

Extra is an entertainment television news program covering events and celebrities which debuted on September 5, 1994 in syndication. It is produced at Victory Studios in Glendale, California by Telepictures Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television Distribution. Extra also had a spinoff show called Celebrity Justice, which ran for only three seasons from 2002-2005. The old CJ newsroom (on the second level of the Victory Studios building) is currently used by the Web site TMZ.com and spin-off TMZ on TV.
