PRESS RELEASE ALBUM SANTAMONICA “CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER”

Setelah melalui penantian dua tahun lamanya, album penuh perdana Santamonica yang berjudul 'Curiouser and Curiouser' telah dirilis pada tanggal 19 November 2007 dibawah bendera Sinjitos Records. Peluncuran album ini menyusul mini album '189' yang dirilis pada bulan September 2005 yang lalu, dan telah terjual sebanyak 1,000 kopi dengan penjualan yang terbatas.

Di album ini, Santamonica memperkaya musik mereka dengan berbagai ekslorasi sound dan memasukkan unsur-unsur electro-pop, jazz, dan progressive rock ke dalam warna indie pop dan bossanova yang telah menjadi ciri khas mereka. Melalui sepuluh lagu di dalam album ini, Santamonica tidak hanya meredefinisi musik mereka sendiri, namun sekaligus meredefinisi musik pop secara keseluruhan. 'Curiouser and Curiouser' adalah sebuah petualangan audio dan eksplorasi musik pop yang harus didengarkan secara personal untuk bisa dinikmati seutuhnya.

Hadirnya nuansa yang lebih gelap dan eerie sangat terasa di album ini, walaupun warna manis dan optimis masih mendapat porsi di lagu seperti 'Ribbons And Tie' dan 'Plain Song'. Untuk mendapatkan nuansa tersebut, Santamonica banyak melakukan eksperimen dalam proses rekaman mereka dengan menggunakan vokal multi-layer, maksimalisasi fuzz noise dan penggunan analog synthesizer.

Dari segi orientasi lirik, eksplorasi yang lebih dalam dilakukan dengan memasukkan berbagai tema, seperti perbandingan kisah realita dan imajinasi berbalut humor gelap pada 'Wanderlust'; kisah seorang pekerja seksual pada 'Paper Dolls', ketakutan massal pada 'Silent Society', serta ironi dan harapan di lagu-lagu lainnya. Porsi cinta masih memiliki tempat, hanya dengan atmosfir yang lebih gelap, sesuai dengan tema keseluruhan album ini. Selain kisah nyata dan sehari-hari, Santamonica banyak mengambil inspirasi lirik dari buku-buku karangan Lewis Carroll dan Phillip K Dick, serta film-film favorit mereka seperti Un Chien D'Andalou, Rosemary's Baby, Suspiria, The Shining maupun film animasi klasik Disney.

Single pertama mereka, 'Wanderlust' telah diputar perdana pada bulan September 2007 di beberapa stasiun radio ternama di Jakarta dan Bandung, dengan sambutan yang menggembirakan. 'Ribbons and Tie' yang merupakan single ke-dua bahkan menduduki peringkat pertama di chart musik lokal, radio Istara Surabaya. Selain mendapat sambutan yang positif, album 'Curiouser and Curiouser' juga menerima banyak pujian dan review dari berbagai kalangan baik di dalam dan luar negeri.

Video klip untuk single Wanderlust digarap oleh tiga sutradara, yaitu Dibyokusumo, Rudi Hatumena, dan Anton Ismael. Klip ini akan diputar di beberapa stasiun televisi nasional tak lama setelah album 'Curiouser and Curiouser' dirilis. Rencananya video klip untuk single ke-dua dan ke-tiga akan diluncurkan awal tahun 2008 sebagai bagian dari program promosi album perdana ini.
