To anyone who hasn't yet registered to vote, I've posted a link to register on my page just for you!!! I know how overwhelming and often ridiculous all the political campaigning can seem. But no matter about the bullshit, and all the things you do or don't agree with, please vote. We can't afford not to at this point. We have to speak up some way, somehow, and we can't afford not to at least have a president who we actually ELECT!!! If you know anyone who hasn't registered to vote, please let them know they are welcome to do so here.
I just wanted to apologize for all the canceled shows and to let everyone know first hand why I've been canceling so many lately. I know it really sucks, especially when the promoters don't let everyone know why.
The deal is that I've been having issues with my voice. I keep losing it and my vocal chords are a mess. My Dr. ordered me to stop doing shows until they're healed which requires an extensive period of vocal rest (no singing or talking). But seeing as how I already had a tour booked, I decided to try to still do some of the dates at least. I've had to rearrange the tour schedule so that it gives my voice some days to rest after each show, so that it wont keep cutting out on me. I lost it 3 times in the last 4 weeks!
Anyway, I am so sorry to disappoint you guys. Trust me, it makes me sick. But it would suck way more if I damaged my voice permanently. So I'm trying to take it slow. I promise I'll make it back really soon to every town I had to cancel!
We're delighted to announce a brand new Santogold headline show.

What I'm searching for To tell it straight, I'm trying to build a wall Walking by myself Down avenues that reek of time to kill If you see me keep going Be a pass by waver Build me up, bring me down Just leave me out you name dropper Stop trying to catch my eye I see you good you forced faker Just make it easy You're my enemy you fast talker
Chorus: I can say I hope it will be worth what I give up If I could stand up mean for the things that I believe
What am I here for I left my home to disappear is all I'm here for myself Not to know you I don't need no one else Fit in so good the hope is that you cannot see me later You don't know me I am an introvert an excavator I'm duckin' out for now A face in dodgy elevators Creep up and suddenly I found myself An innovator
Chorus.
Change, change, change, I want to get up out of my skin Tell you what If I can shake it I'm 'a make this Something worth dreaming of
YOU'LL FIND A WAY
Go Ahead, you know you want it_ You'll have no other way_ You just want to take us down_ Go ahead,_I'll be the one hit_ If I can take you, boy, it just might throw this town_ Oh, you want to get it_ You make us bleed, it'll prove there's life somewhere_ And oh, no, I want to yell it_ But do we speak or are we just nodding our heads_ No way, not me, what you got, _ It's not for me, but you'll find a way_ No way not me, what you got, _ It's not for me__
Don't reach too far_ You will fall over_ Don't be surprised what you discover_ Don't fear your call_ Can't pull us under_ You better watch out, run for cover__
We see right through it_ You get what you give, you get what you give__
Go ahead_I'll be your junkie_ I'll be deplete you can heap all rubbish here_ Go ahead, now dump it on me_ If I go quiet will the itch go down with me_ Oh, you got to get it_ Nevermind that it was never there nowhere_ But oh, no, not for a minute_ For now you'll make your bed_ And it will wait, I swear__ No way, not me, what you got, _ It's not for me, but you'll find a way_ No way not me, what you got, _ It's not for me__
Don't reach too far_ You will fall over_ Don't be surprised what you discover_ Don't fear your call_ Can't pull us under_ You better watch out, run for cover__
We see right through it_ You get what you give, you get what you give__
Tell them that they'll get what they wanted, Tell them_ Tell them that they'll get what they wanted._ 'Til then....
SHOVE IT
Brooklyn we go hard_ We on the look for the advantage, we work hard_ And if we seem to rough it up a bit_ We broke but we rich at heart_ Pull ourselves up now we won't choke_ It's our time, put the lights on us__
War tactics they make me sick_ Reel your heart in run away with it_ Smile in your face, undermine your back_ Got guns for the strength they lack_ So if you know another way_ You can't look the other way_ If you know another way,_ Tell them so right to their face__
We think you're a joke_ Shove your hope where it don't shine (4x)__
I pay for what's called _ Eccentricity and my will to evolve_ I hear them all say_ That I got heart_ But not everything that it takes__
Taint my mind but not my soul_ Tell you I got fire_ I wont sell it for no payroll_ Let 'em hold me down_ I know if I know another way_ I can't look the other way_ I know another way_ I'll tell them so right to their face__
We think you're a joke_ Shove your hope where it don't shine (4x)

My lost voice, Stella McCartney dresses, the beach, and Converse
Lying in bed right now in London. So bored I decided to write a blog. I lost my voice about 4 days ago and haven't spoken since. It's been strange. Everyone who tries to talk to me ends up feeling sad, which I feel really bad about. I'm sad I lost my voice, and sad I had to cancel a bunch of shows. But I'm not sad on the grander scheme of things. My body can be a jerk, but it's in charge, and when it wants to be heard, I have no choice but to listen. I needed rest bad, so it took me losing my voice for me to finally get some. I feel like I got grounded though, while there's a really big party going on or something big that everyone else gets to go to.
So, here I am actually writing a blog on my computer.
I did manage to visit the throat doctor today. He showed me my vocal chords on video (which of course I'd never seen before). It looked like vibrating vagina lips. Weird, but cool. He said I should be ok to sing in a few more days. So that was good.
And then when I got back to the hotel there was a gift waiting on my bed for me! A cool light blue dress with white Dolphins from Stella McCartney. I tried it on and it makes me feel like I'm at the beach! That's my new thing I decided. Since I'm in London (no beach anywhere in sight, and especially now that it's grey and chilly again) I've decided to dress for the beach, swimsuits and sunglasses and some easy-access pants and shoes (not easy-access like that!). I wore this type of outfit at my in-store performance. I'm not sure it went over well. I had on shiny gold shades, and a bright swimsuit. It was really hot outside that day and I appreciated that anyone even showed up to watch my set in the basement of Zavvi, so I thought I'd pretend we were at the beach. So I yelled, "Were at the beeeeaachhh! Let's get CRUNK!!!" And nobody said anything and everyone looked at me like I was crazy. So me and Martelo and the girls had a beach party on stage by ourselves. Didn't discourage me though. I still think it's a good plan. At least until I make it back to a real beach somewhere. And now I have my Dolphin dress to play in as well.
Another cool surprise package today was the final mix of the Converse song I did with Pharell and Julian Casablancas (The Strokes). It reminds of Christmas for some reason, in the way that Christmas songs are exciting. And you know how a lot of Christmas songs have random guest vocalists who just appear out of nowhere? And you get all excited every time a new person enters the picture. Except for it has a sunnier, summertime feel (well Julian actually tells us that it's Summertime), and it's shiny like everything Pharell (have you guys seen his Ice? I humiliated myself by being in absolute awe of it. It sucked me in, like with magical powers, and I just heard myself saying all kinds of stupid shit about it. I embarrassed my manager.) I feel like this song is a talent show, hosted by Pharell, where he's like a Dick Clark character, but who sings, and he starts singing and brings out his musical friends one by one (in this case Julian and me). Or like our own little homage to WuTang Clan, except a mythical version, that sounds simultaneously fun, cocky, and spaced out. We each found our own way into it, and didn't really force it to be one thing or another. The structure is not what I expected either, it ends up feeling loose like an unfolding story. None of us sang about Converse directly, instead we each sang about what they feel like to the people that wear them. Pharell sang about feeling hot and cocky and sexy, which he is (come on, did you see that LV ad?). Julian sang about feeling torn between having a conscience, and wanting to succeed, about feeling uncomfortable in your own skin, but pretty much saying fuck it and living in the moment. And I sang about youth culture overall, and the fact that it's way more sophistacted than people give it credit for, and about kids' (even 30 yr old ones' ) desire to find their own rhythm in life.
Wow, I really have PLENTY of time on my hands right now. But look, now I'm beat and going to sleep. Don't expect another blog any time soon! I should have my voice back in no time…
1. My name is Santi like "Monty", not Santy like "Panty", and please stop calling me "Santa", that's like my childhood nightmare.
And its "Sant-o-gold" like "Font-o-gold" not Santagold, like "Can'tagold"
2. I am not "throwing up" on my album cover (nor am I throwing up bees, it's glitter!). Use your imagination. How 'bout: I have the Midas touch of the mouth, or something magical like that? That was more what we were thinking with this one.
I'm sure there are more things that I need to set straight, but that's all I can think of for now : )
