Lots Of Stuff In This One (Updated)

What's good, people? First and foremost, I'd like to offer a word of thanks to those of you that gave the DR.T laced "PERFECT PROFESSION" a listen and responded with feedback and/ or constructive criticism. Keep an eye out and ear open for the beatsmith's upcoming releases, as 2008 figures to be a busy year for THE BEAT DOCTOR. As for the song itself, it will be appearing on the EP that I'll be dropping as a preface to the full length solo debut "The Standard Issue" and as part of "The Issue Series" that will consist of the full length album, the aforementioned EP and a mixtape. Titled " The Supplemental Issue," it will consist of several (but not all of) your MySpace favorites, exclusive material, and songs that won't be appearing on the full length album or the EP. I know, I know, I know. Several months ago, I posted a blog condemning mixtapes as nothing short of the Anti-Christ and furthermore went so far as to say that I'd never create one of my own. However, thanks to Joe Budden (with his "Mood Muzik" series) and Little Brother (with all of their mixtapes, but specifically "Separate But Equal"), I've been set straight, as the "Suuplemental Issue" mixtape will follow their respective blueprints. There will be minimal beat jacks and minimal to no DJ screams, but lots of good music. Be sure to continue to check for updates, as all release dates at this point are tentative.
Now... onto other things...
Recently, I've had several people inquire about Rare Breed, so I figured it was about time I explained what that was all about. It's rather simple, actually. "Rare Breed" is the name of the tandem that I've formed with fellow emcee and younger brother JOEY DOWNTOWN. The name was spawned from something that I remember my mother telling me a couple of years ago when she uttered: "My children are of a rare breed…". Indeed. Take care of your mothers, people!!! Anyhow, Rare Breed will essentially follow the framework established by the classic hip hop tandem Black Star in that although there will be a tandem project released in the future, Joey Downtown and I will most likely have far more solo projects. Speaking of which, Joey's currently working on his autobiographical mixtape entitled "The Black Collar Chronicles" and recently posted a couple of songs from said project. To hear some of Joey's solo material scroll down a little further, press 'play' and let your speakers thump!
Once again, I'd like to offer my thanks to everyone for their support, constructive criticism, love, hate, etc. To my fellow artists, keep blazing and to the people that are listening, keep spreading the word. Hopefully everyone's 2008 has been a safe, productive, and enjoyable one thus far.
"Standard Issue" on the way...

Release date: 2008-06-03
Big ups to Cara Criteser, Reginald Daggett, Julien Bilbok, Sarah Peters, Kaur Kittus, Francisco Camifugo, Ian Cooper and Joey Downtown for making the move to Tucson as smooth as possible.
Her smile, her eyes, the curvature of her lips Her thighs, aligned with the curvature of her hips Had widened my eyes and stirred me from my scripted Lines that I had purposed for to spit and worse Or better depending who you ask I'm cursed Or blessed her nether demanded gasps And yet The best of her was none of those factors Yes The best of her above all in fact was… Her skin God yes, it was melanin drenched The brown tint of a Twix with a heavenly kick And as the gloss of her skin seemed to glow and glisten I stood in awe and resented how the sun kissed her Convinced that my lips could bring Things the Day Star of God wouldn't dare to dream See my arms was the place that she needed to be Yet from the arms of the sun, she had no need leave Or heed my voice raised towards she But wait She just locked eyes with me
Big Ups to Mr. Dent and Kaiji E.
Current mood: jubilant
This is the third verse of a collabo with two of DePaul University's quickly rising emcees Kaiji E. and Mr. Dent... Follow the flow...
My words are rendered like a bullet from inside of a 9// Like a pass given from the Saint attired in a 9// And inside of my mind there's residing a mine// Planted and enhanced holding the diamond of rhymes// But time after time such lines are denied// Why?// We're mired in the grime of self-inspired demise// And worse// We're inclined to deny and decline// Such ideas that our peers are squandering time// As time// Slides past, I slide closer to blowing a gasket// And closer to overstanding the ferocious masses// Who espouse to present day Black Power// Not as within its origins forged by past avowers// So I// In this final hour// I swear I will blast cowards// Who stand idly by while we battle the vast showers// Of racism and acquaint them with the bottom of my Nikes// Unless they stand the f*ck up and fight for their rights//

Damn… Talk about being blindsided// Her hindside required I peer a twice time// So I peered a twice time but appeared the twice time// Was a clear and bright smile that steered me to shine mine// The fine dime she clearly admired mine// So I wasted no time and started to slide by// As I steered my step toward this angel// My res-por-ation was set for failure, it seemed like// At 5'9" the ma was simply a goddess// Her body roused my mind, quelling my calmness// And unless I draw slow with long breaths// On death's bed I'm all set for long rest// So I draw close and start to breathe plain// And with three steps I'm and calm seem sane// No pause or restrain "What's good, ma?" I say// She replied to I "Can you tell me your friend's name?"// WHAT?!?!
Man, I KNOW that I'm not the only one that this has happened to... Lol... Gotta love women...

Warning Shot
Current mood: Perturbed ever so slightly
Soooo... lately certain people have been talking a little reckless. Names are not necessary, as currently I still have enough respect for these individuals and their work to not call them out. However, it's about time that they clam up... seriously. This sh!t is getting ridiculous:
I've kept a pen in my hand despite this hiatus// Of which some might try to describe as quite heinous// As cats have waxed bold and are trying my patience// Saying I stepped back cuz my rhymes were type latent// I welcome the slight hatred// And welcome the lie slinging// They just gave me a reason for cattle and swine slaying// So fathom the rhyme spraying that soon will belie statements// That I am shy and not the kind to rattle and fry players// So...// Bear witness as I cancel the snide sayings// And cause terror like I'm steady prying through guys' anus// And pallbearers better be on call in the high majors// For all errors uttered draw response from my line saber// Naysayers should stretch their hands to the sky in prayer Don't believe me?// You're welcome to then inquire of my neighbors// Cuz body counts hit nigh amounts in the high eighties// The last time my pages manifest my anger// ...
After much thought and deliberation, I've decided to step away from hip hop for a while. I'm going to continue to write, but I feel like emceeing has slowly become too high of a priority for me. It seems as if the majority of the decisions that I make nowadays are specifically geared towards my future in hip hop and more specifically, my future as an emcee. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, I've found there to be an extreme lack of balance in my life as my focus in other areas has began to slip considerably. I should be a better student. I should be more available to my family and to the people that I love most. I should be a better trumpet player and therefore more of an asset to my national guard unit. This list goes on... Simply stated, I need to do some soul-searching. I know who Savant is... I need to rediscover who Gregory Daggett is.
It's important that I stress to anyone that reads this that this leave of absence that I'm taking will be temporary and furthermore that I will not put the pen down. I will always be a writer ("... true to order; truly an author and firestarter; a mic sparker Savant's been immersed in firewater..."), but I probably won't be attending open mics because I know that I'll have difficulty fighting the urge to step foot on stage as an emcee. How long before I begin to pursue emceeing again, only God knows. But I promise that this is not permanent.
I would like to offer most sincere apologies to the emcees, vocalists, DJs, beatsmiths, writers and anyone else that had planned on working with me, particularly V-Sharp, Kuahmel, Satchill Head, Donqui Shot, Eka the Madd Samplist, SimONE, Cutta, Three60 the Universal Ruler, Axis Infinite, DJ heartMind, Jay Illestrate, Effoiday, BennCart, Tay Graphics and Mrs. Aday. Best wishes to all of you in all of your endeavors. I'm looking forward to bearing witness to the fruits of your efforts and regret that I cannot be a part of them. Much love and many thanks to you all for even considering working with me.
To everyone else: Keep in touch and keep me in your prayers and as always... KEEP BLAZING!
