The Details... and Thank You's

So... the secret is out, and the position is official (I think the order should be reversed there, but whatever).  I can now proudly announce my new position; automation technician for Cirque Du Soleil's Ka at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.  My dream to persue a satisfying career in the entertainment industry has definately reached a new peak.  You can't get much better than this, I think.

Our first day in NY has been a full one.  We stopped by WBT last night and watched "The Full Monty", which I think is an excellent show.  Honestly, I thought I'd hate it... man junk and all... but it was hilarious!  Highly recommended.  Both Kelly and I enjoyed whole heartedly.  Afterwards, it was great to see everyone.  I didn't mean to brag about the new position, but I did.  Can't help it - I still can't believe it's actually happening.

To be honest, my goal isn't (and wasn't) to just 'brag'.  I wanted to show how it is possible to achieve your goals via experiences at that great little dinner theatre in NY.  If it weren't for the opportunities presented to me there, I would never have been considered for where I'm going.  I soaked up all I could... from automation to carpentry, from sound to lighting (thank you Andrew!).  I payed attention to how things worked, including the crew as a whole.  When I was crew manager, I tried to get everyone to work together to achieve the one goal - a seemingly flawless production of the best quality possible.  When I was Technical Director, I tried to pay attention to the details and assign duties fairly to the proper people.  I never claimed to know everything - I always allowed those who knew better to do what they did best, and I watched.  I watched and learned.  I always remembered the "director" part of the title, directing those who knew to do what they did best.  I tried to keep the crew in good spirits, and I tried to make it a comfortable place to work.  I hope I did those things right - I know I made my fair share of mistakes.  Hell, if I could do it all again, there would be a thousand things I'd do differently... and maybe I'll eventually get that chance in Vegas!

So, thank you WBT... thank you Bill and Bob... thank you Andrew and John.  Thank you Victor and Lisa.  Thank you to the crew, and to everyone... the waiters, the kitchen staff... the box office... Jim, Todd, Billy, Eric, the changeover crew.  Thank you Bryan for getting me in there.  Thank you all.

As Kelly and I take the step to become one in marriage, and we share a small slice of time here before moving on back west, this is a perfect time for thank you's.  We'll be starting a new page in life yet again.  And we do it with all the warmth in our hearts for those who helped us get to where we are today.

Thank you all.

~Steve

Here I go again...

Las Vegas was a success! Kelly, Spencer and I found a GORGEOUS apartment. I also went in and sealed the deal at the new job. It's a BIG room. A big room with 2000 seats and over 140 feet in height. Amazing.

On to more important things, though...

We leave for NY tonight. Mid-September... I think I need to bring a jacket. That almost seems funny. The wedding is only 8 days away! Sunday, Kelly and I will be husband and wife!!! (Not necessarily in that order)

See all you NYers soon!

Here's the deal...
Current mood: enthralled

Since Kelly is still visiting NY and has told several people the news, I think it's safe for me to go ahead and post it here... a little moment of self-proclaimed pride and happiness...

To start (and what is arguably the most important of these two personal news bits), Kelly and I will be getting married in NY next month!  Yeah, that's right... over 8 years in the waiting, and we'll be officially together as husband and wife.  I'm extremely happy about this - she and I are enjoying life together more than I'd ever hoped since we've moved out West.

Second, we'll be leaving Phoenix next month.  We're moving to Las Vegas, where I've managed to get myself a job with a huge resident show.  Everything isn't 100% official and legal yet, so I'm not going to go into details here on MySpace - but if you want me to tell ya, send me an email.

I'm honored to be marrying Kelly, and I'm honored to be considered for the position in Vegas... I've never been there, but it's going to be great, I'm sure.  Gonna be a busy month, though - I can say that much.  I continue my work here in Phoenix until the end of August, find an apartment in Vegas the first week of Sept., Go back to NY to get married on the second week, Honeymoon on the third, Come back to Phoenix to move and settle in Vegas on the fourth, and start work in Oct. at the new diggs.  Busy... but extremely exciting.

Let's put it this way... the new job is definately something I could only have hoped for - big things move in the circus, and someone's gotta be the one who moves 'em.  (That was an extremely random hint, btw)

Enough bragging for now.

You'd never believe it...

So, as you probably read on my front page, there's something big brewing. I can't say just what yet... but put it this way - when Kelly gets back from NY this week, I'll be posting some big news. News which will make many people want to come and visit us. News which will change our lives for the better. News that some of you thought would never happen - including myself. It's good news, trust me. Some of you already know, but the rest of you will find out soon. For both announcements, I have to thank 'ol WBT. Without my time spent at that theatre (which, by the way, I'm still encountering people OUT HERE who have worked there in one capacity or another), I would have never made it to where I am today - or where I will be in the very near future.

That's all I can say for now.

Laters.

Time to change...
Current mood: ecstatic
Category: Life

It's been a while since I've posted a blog.  A lot has happened since my last entries, which I've since deleted.  Seems I was wallowing too much in a tattered past, and not spending enough time working toward my future.  Well, I took that to heart, I did.

I'll be moving to Arizona at the start of the new year with Kelly.  I landed an excellent job out in Scottsdale, and I'll be starting a new life out there...

With my new wife-to-be, Kelly.  Did I ever mention Kelly on here before?  Probably only briefly.  Well, Kelly has been my girlfriend for over seven and a half years.  She's stuck with me through thick and thin, and I think I tried to aviod any long-term attatchment for so many stupid reasons.

I decided to pop the question to her this past Monday night.  I was so nervous about the whole thing... if she'd like the ring, if she'd say yes, if she'd be embarrassed... but I went ahead and took her to our favorite restaraunt (Mitty's in Hartsdale), got on one knee, and asked.

She said "yes" instantly, without even looking at the ring!  Of course, I do believe that once she saw it, she was quite pleased.  So was I - with the whole situation.  Everything went MUCH better than I'd ever hoped.  Past history be damned... THIS is what true love is supposed to be like.

Our wedding plans are open.  I've asked her to wait until we move out and get settled before we start thinking about things, although I don't want to wait long after that.  I'd like to get a family going... get myself a kid, white picket fence, and a dog.  Wait... we'll already have a dog.  Spencer, that roly-poly 24 pound toy poodle.  A cute and mushy giant snowball that will be moving with us.

So much is changing so fast.  A new life... 100 percent complete.  I'll miss NY, my family, old friends... but I see a bright new future out on the Western horizon.  Looking forward?  Hell yeah!

Seven and a half years.  It's about damned time.
