Jessicka speaks.
Current mood: awake
Category: Religion and Philosophy
It's hard to believe that I've been out of commission publicly for a year. Even before my self imposed online exile, I was truly weary of communicating online. It's scary! It's always been easier for me to have others communicate for me. (usually that never works out in the end either)
For the past year, I've enjoyed online anonymity. I liked being a muse and the person behind the scenes on a few projects. Now, coinciding with my radical physical transformation,(more on that later) it's time to have more of an online presence. Lord knows I have plenty to say!!!
I just don't think myspace is the right the site for me anymore. I just got married and don't feel comfortable airing my dirty laundry on what started out as a "dating site".. Also, let's face it, myspace is quite intimating at times. It began to get impossible to get to actual email and requests between all the "hey check out my..." and spam. I felt that if I actually took on the daunting task of answering all emails on myspace I'd not only feel guilty not answering every single one to the best of my ability but be online four hours at a time. So basically I just gave up. No disrespect to myspace, but I feel while I've been in my online exile this site has become inundated with uninspiring crap. Not only that but I've gotten "this error has been forwarded to mySpace's technical group" message about 20 times while trying to update this page. Don't get me wrong, it did serve it's purpose as a great promotional tool, but I just don't feel comfortable blogging here.
I've decided to try something new and move my base of operations to uber.com. More on that once my new page is up. Scarling.com & Jessicka.com (which until now was a fan site) will also be updated in the next few weeks. The point of this ramble is: I'm just coming out of newly wed status and trying to get my show back on the road. Scarling. IS writing a new record, it's just taking us a lot longer then we expected to get it off the ground. In the mean time I have a few other things coming up you might be interested in.
My first group show. depARTed!!! Where: World Of Wonder Gallery 6650 Hollywood Blvd @Cherokee Hollywood, California 90028 When: Opening reception April 25th 8 PM Who : Jessicka and her "sweet" art depARTed WOW gallery
The Ingenues are coming...
Source: All -ACCESS!!!
I'm making t his one short and sweet. One because I think you should stop reading this and watch Sam's show immediately. Two, because I get weird about not so inconspicuously plugging my own projects.
Samantha Maloney, most widely known as one of the sexiest drummers in Rock, has recently added show host to her already impressive bio. You might already know her from Hole, MotleyCrue, Eagles of Death Metal, and Peaches. She's currently the host of maniaTV's flagship music show, All Access. AA takes the viewer deep inside the world of major artists and showcases the best in new music.
Along with the auspicious task of hosting, she and I are currently in the midst of putting the final touches on our new project, TheIngenues. We'll release our first single "Happy For You" later th is month exclusively on uber.com
Sam's first show aired 04-15-08, but you can watch it anytime with just a click here: GO GO GO.. whatcha waiting for? http://www.maniatv.com/shows/all-access
I've also joined Jared Gold's ....Renegades of Style on uber.com. I'll be blogging up a storm.
Oh and as far as my new blogging gig goes -Here's an example: Fruit Fly Confidential. I got married last year! In doing so, I noticed that my straight single male friends have become almost nonexistent. But, oddly enough, my male gay friends have almost doubled or perhaps even tripled in numbers. For years I've been referred to as a "fag hag" and even though this label has been attached to me affectionately", I'd like to say this... no term that ends in "hag" is flattering. I often voice my opposition to the term fag hag regularly. It's not that I am not proud to be surrounded by gay men, actually without them I would be most certainly lost. If I have to be categorized, isn't there a better term.. . Perhaps Fruit Fly... or Queer Dear?
This got me to thinking. There have to be plenty of women who are in the same position I am? Women who want to know where to hang with her gays. I mean, I know what people believe to be the psychology of the straight woman- gay men relationship. There are some women who have a tendency to fall in love with gay men without realizing their orientation. I am not one of those. I truly just seem to have the most fun with my male gay friends. I do have one special gay friend in particular. His name is Justin, some of you might know him as the "Homo Merch Cowboy". ( last name withheld to protect him - even though he is farrrrrr from innocent) He and I tend to go on the most unbelievable adventures together, and get into the most sticky and precarious situations. You see he and I both grew up in Florida, were self-styled reject Goth kids (pre- Hot Topic.. thank you very much!) and have known each other for over 10 years. He moved to LA to get in the music business. I moved to LA to record a record. When both of those career choices went bust we decided to stick around and wreck havoc on this fair city. He and I are both over "the business that is music" but not over causing trouble every where we go. We got to brainstorming on how we could capitalize on our weekly adventures, and we came up with the idea of doing a weekly blog , perhaps a "fruit fly's guide to LA" and share our views about restaurants, movies, bars, and LA night life from our unique perspective. We might even develop a rating system... even become the Siskel and Ebert of faggotry....??? Trust me this ain't going to be the adventures of Will and Grace... though I do fashion myself after the charter Karen Walker. I'm going to work out the bugs and logistics of the idea over the next week or so...Ya'll come back now, ya hear?
Wow, that was a lot longer then expected but it has been a long time and now you get the gist: change is coming. Change is good. Hopefully you'll bear with me while I make these changes happen. As always thanks for your support and your patience.
Jessicka

depARTed! April 25th 2008 8 PM!
Current mood: animated
Category: Art and Photography
ACTOR DANIEL FRANZESE AND WORLD OF WONDER ANNOUNCE "depARTed" GROUP ART SHOW
Exhibition to showcase art inspired by stars that died before their time.
– Actor Daniel Franzese and World of Wonder Productions founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato today announced Franzese's group art show depARTed, a continuation of their successful WOW Storefront Gallery joint ventures, which previously included the wildly popular HOLLYWEEN: Hollywood Vs. Halloween art show.
Inspired by the death of a co-star, Daniel Franzese curates depARTed, celebrating stars who have died before their time. The show opens Friday April 25 at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery, from 8PM – midnight. The show will kick off with a cocktail party hosted by Daniel Franzese, and will feature music, the artists and several surprise guests and performances.
The show serves as a remembrance for those who inspired before they expired, by bringing together 30 artists to contribute a work based on someone who inspired them but died before their time. Actor/curator Daniel Franzese (Bully, Mean Girls, Kill Theory) was moved by the death of his Bully co-star Brad Renfro when he came upon the idea. "I really wanted to find a way to shine a light on this morbid subject" says Daniel about the process of coordinating the opening. "It's my belief to try and celebrate the life of an inspiring person and not focus on their passing. I know that is the way I choose to remember Brad - as a great artist."
Some of the artists involved in the exhibit have created pieces which incorporate the subjects' life's work into the piece, such as a portrait of Pro Skateboarder and Kids actor Harold Hunter painted onto a skate deck. Franzese comments, "I knew Harold pretty well when I lived in New York City. When I saw the way he was honored in this piece it moved me… I knew at that moment this show was going to be something special. Some of the pieces in the show might be disturbing or cause controversy but I think that is what you get when you are dealing with the subject of death. Especially one that is untimely."
Works that will be included boast famous personalities like Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Anna Nicole Smith, to notable figures like Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr., to artists like Keith Haring and Isabella Blow. Lesser-known inspirational figures like guitarist Randy Rhodes and Boys Don't Cry subject Brandon Teena are also featured. Confirmed artists include but are not limited to: Ron English, KRK Ryden, Ken Dougherty, Corey Smith, Bryden Lando, Nathan Meier, Jason Mercier, Morgan Slade, Craig Robinson, Matos and Jessicka. As always World of Wonder and Franzese decided to keep the cost of the art available to art lovers of all income brackets with prices staring at only $10.
The World of Wonder Storefront Gallery is located at 6650 Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood, California 90028 depARTed opens Friday April 25 with a cocktail party from 8PM – midnight.

Scarling. Urges Fans To Help The Wildlife WayStation

Scarling. Urges Fans To Help The Wildlife WayStation
Wildlife Waystation, a 160-acre wild and exotic animal refuge in the Angeles National Forest, is in a financial crisis which is impacting their animals' food supply. They are hoping that you might be able to assist them with immediate help to get them through the end of September. They are establishing a detailed fundraising plan that will help them for future fundraising. Unfortunately, that won't help during this critical situation. Can we count on you to help us with your immediate support? Even if you just donate $10, it could help feed one of their 400 lions, tigers, bears, primates, reptiles, birds and more.
How to Donate 1. Online at www.wildlifewaystation.org (They take credit cards!) 2. Call us at (818) 899-5201 3. Write a check to Wildlife Waystation and mail it to 14831 Little Tujunga Canyon Road Angeles National Forest, CA 91342-5999.
Your donations are tax-deductible (Federal tax exempt number 95-3190812).
The animals thank you. Scarling thanks you.

Why No-Fi magazine rules !!!!
Thank you Chris - fav review yet!
http://www.nofimagazine.comSCARLING "So Long, Scarecrow" CD, 2005 reviewed by Chris Beyond Whew, this has been waiting for review for too long (as have most of the CDs reviewed here for the next couple months). This is the new full length album by indie favs SCARLING. It starts off beautifully with "Hello London" which can be described as somewhere between BLONDE REDHEAD and SONIC YOUTH. There is very little company you can keep that would be better than that. The next track "City Noise" is a great follow-up with guitars that do their own thing while moving the song along nicely. Much of the album can be described as a light night drive through the big city when most everyone is in their beds and the streets glow orange from lamplights. It just seems like the perfect time to listen to this record. I hope your parents let you drive around at 4am. Jessicka's voice is pretty and smooth and it reminds me of somebody I can't remember at the moment. If there was an award for song titles, I'd nominate "Stapled To The Mattress" for this year. I think my second favorite song on this album is "We Are The Music Makers" with its wild guitars and layered breathy vocals at the end. The album ends nicely with the title track "So Long, Scarecrow" and is a great way to go out. There are 13 tracks on this album, but they leave you wanting more. I think that the only thing I wanted to hear was a little more edge in the vocals to break it up a bit. The packaging has great photos too. Now this album I like 10 times better than their first so I expect the next one should be 20 times better than this. And if they keep progressing like this, I believe it will. WE Love BUST!
BUST loves us!
Buy the new issue with with actress/activist Susan Sarandon on the cover
WHO SAYS DISTORTION can’t be melodic? Certainly not the neo-goth rock powerhouses in Scarling, who marry a surprisingly balanced wall-of-guitars to lead singer Jessicka’s birdlike vocals with such a punk nonchalance it’s a wonder this kind of thing doesn’t happen more often. They just make it seem so easy! On So Long, Scarecrow, the band’s sophomore LP, the five raven-haired hipsters take their precious time, loping through deliriously dark, navel-gazey tracks like the killer “Hello London” before delivering a pop drop-kick on the infectious “Bummer” or the sexy, danceable “Broken Record.” Through it all, Christian Hejnal’s and Rickey Lime’s axe-grinding lays down the perfect sonic mass behind Jessicka’s haunting chirps, be they mopey or murderous. The crackling combo is driven by drummer Beth Gordon’s relentless pounding, while the fierce bottom line comes courtesy of bassist Derik Snell. The best part? The album is practically the musical equivalent of an Edward Gorey illustration: ominous and shadowy, but not without a certain sense of morbid joy. Sly lyrics and sarcastic insights pepper Scarecrow’s dystopian soundscape, proving that Scarling has picked up more than just wardrobe inspiration from vets like the Cure. And let’s face it-has there ever been a better song title than “Manorexic”? [E. Meister]
