Never ever under any circumstances, EVER, underestimate your friends' ability to drop you like a dirty pair of socks once something, and I mean anything, comes along. It could be a hook up, a party, a free ice cream at Ben and Jerry's, really, that allows them to decide that whatever prior commitment they had is no longer relevant in the wake of Cherry Garcia. Friends are just like anybody else. Just because you associate with them on any level does not mean they respect you or care about you, despite what comes out of their mouth. Trust and respect that is earned in any kind of relationship can be demolished on the wings of selfishness. And this is how I've come to decide that I don't need friends.
Remember back in the day when your Mommy and Daddy told you~ if you were a good person, if you cared about other people, if you respected them, gave more than you took, empathized with their sorrow and their problems, stood by them when they were misunderstood, and went the extra mile when you didn't have to to help them out~ that you'd have a friend for life?
FUCK THAT SHIT
That was 1985. This is 2008. This is the generation of ME! ME! ME! FUCK YOU! It's taken me a long time to catch up. Life is a game, and the good people are chumps. That's why we've got 99% of the world's wealth in the little 1%'s hands. Do you scratch your head when your friends take your money and never pay you back? When they make numerous plans and then always blow you off without even a canceling phone call?
PEOPLE MISTAKE KINDNESS FOR WEAKNESS.
If there's one thing I've solidly learned, it's that you can't count one fuck on anyone. Not even your own goddamn blood. Your greatest childhood friend is just waiting for the right man (or) woman to come along so they can latch together like the disease and it's host and crawl away into their own little hermit world. Your name won't even be on speed dial anymore.
All that shit you were told about working hard and being rewarded for your efforts, for the extra blood and sweat you oozed to show you were committed 1000%? YOU'RE FUCKED. You're the little fuck they've been waiting for to dump the toughest assignments, the largest crap on. There's no reward, there's only guilt, beaten into you. "How could you ask for a raise? How you could possibly think you're worth more?"
I'LL TELL YOU HOW YOU'RE WORTH MORE. YOU'RE WORTH MORE WHEN YOU REALIZE YOU AREN'T GETTING RESPECT, YOU DON'T JUST SIT THERE LIKE A SAD LITTLE SHIT, YOU GO OUT AND TAKE IT. DON'T LET ANYONE, EVER, TELL YOU YOU DON'T DESERVE WHAT YOU REALLY WANT.
If you're willing to work for something, to sacrifice, then you go out and you take what you rightfully earned. No one is going to give you shit. You've got to get that better job on your own. You've got to get better friends on your own. You can't expect people to change, and you certainly can't as fuck stoop down to their level and reason with their insanity and magnificent egos. They aren't worth it. They are living in their own self-appreciating bio-world to comfort the blow of never doing anything with their life.
BE THE PERSON YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE. DON'T LET SOME FUCKING ASSHOLE, EVEN YOUR "FRIEND" KEEP YOU IN THE SPRAWL. GO OUT AND FUCKING TAKE IT.
