Come Together
Current mood: focused
Category: Blogging

Hello out there,

So Search/Rescue has been very busy lately.  We have officially become an official business with a license and all.  It's legit!  I've been busy setting up a bank account, paypal account, etc.  It's a lot of work but it's worth it in the end.

We finally got T-shirts!  We are setting up an online store with merchnow.com so they should be available sometime in mid-august.  We'll definitely make sure and put a link up from our page so you can all make it there easier.  We will also be selling hard copies of our album "The Compound" in the store.  It's gonna be great.

Besides that we are continuing to write new music.  Jerrod will be going in to do some drums here in the next couple of weeks.  Also,  we are shooting a video at the end of August here in Seattle.  It'll be low budget but good quality.  We promise.

Please stay with us and keep checking back for updates.  We are going to try to do this much more often!

The story of "THE COMPOUND"
Current mood: accomplished

Well it's been a little over a week now since the ten songs that make up "The Compound" have been available to you guys. I thought it would be cool to give you the story on where they came from.

A while ago we started recording songs to use as demos and begin the search to find a home/label for the band. While doing so, a label in Japan heard some music and asked if we'd be interested in releasing a record over there. We thought this would be a great way to continue to record more music without having to worry about where the money would come from to do so. This is the reason the record came out in Japan before it did here. At the end of the day, They had there record, and we had bunch of songs we could start using to generate interest from labels. With how the music biz is at this point in time, we're really trying to figure what the best move for us is.

Knowing this could take a while, we felt that it would be best to let people who were wanting to get their hands on some music do so. Even though these songs were never really intended to be released here, we're really happy with the situation and the presentation of the music! Is there a chance some of these songs may be recorded again in the future? Maybe, but we're just happy to be able to share some music with you guys in an early phase of this whole thing!

Thanks to everyone who's been a part of this so far!

Kaylan

Freedom Day

"On Friday February 1st, 2008, thousands across the U.S. will rise to be one voice for the 17,500 women and children trafficked into this country as modern day slaves."

Hey guys! We wanted to invite you to the opening of the first shelter built for trafficked victims in Washington state. This is not a show.

You will hear the amazing story of "Freedom House" and meet those that birthed this hopeful endeavor.

A night of music, film, story, and hope.

Cloverfield
Current mood: amused

Son of a! I just wrote this blog on my Cloverfield experience and then accidentally hit back or something and it all got deleted. I even had a cool picture of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters in here but it would kind of lose its charm and spontaneity if I posted it again so oh well. Cloverfield was awesome. Very satisfying. I don't think I can imagine a more satisfying "big city getting destroyed" kind of movie. So much better than:

Independence Day

The Day After Tomorrow

Deep Impact

Or even:

Godzilla

Haha "SIZE DOES MATTER." But Cloverfield really was fun, I think it's like a movie idea that you and a bunch of your friends would come up with where you're like, "Dude it would be awesome if they made a movie about some monster or aliens and like you don't see the president authorizing some attack or the scientists coming up with a way to defeat the thing, like the computer virus Jeff Goldblum invents to infect the alien ships in Independence Day."

The Terror

Speaking of mysterious beasts killing people, read The Terror! It's so amazing, it's 800 pages so you definitely get your money's worth. I am so sucked into this book right now, if you get it message me so we can discuss! Basically it's like the 1800s and these British ships get sent on this mission in the arctic and they get stuck in ice and this mysterious monster starts hunting them. It is insane and so good.

I am listening to John Mayer's Continuum record right now. It's really good. I lost my iPod (or it got stolen) on a trip recently so I am listening to burned cds in my car, how ghetto is that. The funny thing is I never really used my iPod for forever and just recently started listening to music again and then it disappears.

Wtf.

Yoooooooooo
Current mood: jedi

Brian. Dn Dn. Dn Dn Dn Dn!

I've been jamming Favourite Worst Nightmare recently. It's pretty good. I don't really listen to music hardly at all anymore so the fact that I'm enjoying this is really something. I recommend this record to anybody who enjoyed Pretty Girls Make Graves. It's fun and rocking, really cool drums that remind me of Rudy from Gatsbys! I hate hype bands and this band has been pretty hyped since the moment I heard of them, but this record is just great.

I saw I am Legend (wack), Juno (not bad), Sunshine (pretty good but also wack), T2 Judgment Day (sick), and T3 Rise of the Machines (WTF) recently. T3 was insulting to my intelligence and should be offensive to anyone who has any reverence for Terminator canon. I am Legend was a joke, if I want to see a stupid apocalyptic movie with Will Smith I'll watch Independence Day. At least in ID4 (lol) we get to see:

A. Jeff Goldblum play the same character he played in Jurassic Park

B. Harry Connick, Jr get blown up

C. Bill Pullman

All of which are fairly entertaining. Juno was a good date movie, though I uncomfortably felt like I had a little too much in common with Jason Bateman's character (eeeek) and the dialogue was kind of stilted. Nobody really talks like that. Watching T2 and then following it with T3 made me feel sick deep inside. And Sunshine was just weird. Like I have no idea what the point was. Just like The Beach and 28 days later but less entertaining. Those guys have these fun, cool premises for movies and then they try to take this Lord of The Flies left turn halfway through every single time. Whatever!

So we're playing a couple shows with Cobra Starship next month, that should be sick! We also just confirmed that we're opening the TSL show in Seattle when they come through, which will be a lot of fun. Those dudes are the best and the most fun I ever had on tour was when Gatsbys was out on the Screaming is For Babies tour with them.

Alright well I hope you guys are having a good new year, we'll keep you posted as to when The Compound will be up on iTunes! Keep it real!

2007<2008
Current mood: smitten

I am very very very excited for 2008.

But Iron Man aside, I'm excited to get our amazing amazing record into all of your hands! I'm also excited because I know for certain that it's going to be better year than 2007. I would say 2007 was definitely one of the more difficult years of my adulthood to date. If I even qualify myself to fit into the "adulthood" category at this point.

2007 was a humbling year for me. I had surgery this year, which left me stranded in a bed for awhile, with my wife looking after me, cooking for me, entertaining me... Hmmm I should have surgery more often... I also rejoined the working world in 2007. After not having a job for several years while I toured full-time in Gatsbys, I put on a green apron and started making drinks at Starbucks! It definitely was not as fun or as entertaining as being on tour, but I think I actually built some character for the first time in about five years.

To me one cool thing about 2007 was that I got to spend a year making music that I felt very passionate about, and that by the time all was said and done the record I made was something I was more proud of than anything I had ever done in my old band. So even though I was a gimp for a good portion of 2007, and even though I was at work at 4 am making life's simple pleasures for people on their way to work, it was a very fulfilling year.

On the last day of 2007, it seems like the music industry is going down the tubes with this morning's dump. But I like to think that like the rare morning dump that somehow becomes fertilizer for a bed of roses, the industry could be transforming into something far more artist-friendly and "fertile" for musicians like us that never really played by the rules anyway. I think that in 2008 we will see the old dinosaurs of the industry go to the grave where they belong, while in their place more efficient, ethical businesses will spring to life. They'll probably be the result of management and pr companies mating, and hopefully the offspring will eliminate the need for record labels in general.

I don't know what 2008 holds for search/rescue specifically but I do know this: we independently financed our record, and we own the thing and have no record contract here in the states whatsoever. And it's a damn good feeling! There's no contract over our head, no threat of support being withdrawn, no fear that the label won't like the music that we made, no pressure to change our music in one direction or another. I'm not saying anything specifically about any particular label, just that it was an amazing experience making a record for the first time without a label directly involved. And I absolutely can't wait to share the music we made with you guys.

Alright so it's time to drink and be merry and to bring in the new year with a bang. I hope you all have a safe one tonight, and lets all have a siiiiiiick 2008!

Album Done! Lyrics up!
Current mood: accomplished

Hello people,

We are very happy to announce that our full-length album, "The Complex" is finally complete. It took us a long time but we are extremely happy with the results. It is being released in Japan first but we will have it available on iTunes in early 2008 for everyone else. We cannot thank everyone who helped us complete this album enough for all their hard work.

Also, we posted the lyrics for all the songs on our page today since we've gotten quite a few requests for them.

Our shows that we know about as of right now are Feb. 8th in Portland and Feb. 9th in Seattle with Cobra Starship. These shows are almost sold out so get your tickets soon if you want to go. We also just confirmed that we will be playing at the South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX on March 15th! We are so excited about going. It is one of the most fun weeks ever...no joke.

Happy Holidays!
