11:46 - Old Season 6 Interview w/Kiefer Sutherland (old is just as good as new!!)
Current mood: irritated
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

In movies, Kiefer Sutherland was a solid actor who would appear frequently and be recognized, but never a megastar. All that changed when he made the leap to television. 24 is hotter than most movies these days, and he's the main man. Jack Bauer is back for another season of real time tension, though the only thing we can discern about this year's plot is that he has a really long beard from his months in Chinese captivity. Sutherland only gave us a few more vague tidbits, but he was gracious to stand around a network party chatting with press when he could have been drinking the night away at the open bar...
..

CraveOnline: What can you tell us about this season?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: Certainly from Jack's point of view, he's at the end of his line. Something's going to have to really rejuvenate him from the position that he's in. So in that area, there's going to be a character shift within the context of the show with his character. There has to be. Otherwise he's just going to be dead. And he's been put through it. So it's going to be interesting at least to try to come from a very dark, really deep, dark place and actually try and come up as opposed to starting in an up position and going down. That'll be different...
..

CraveOnline: How many more days can Jack handle?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: That's up to an audience. Me, I love doing it and I'm glad that they let me do it as long as they have...
..

CraveOnline: Will the show have a different tone or theme this year?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: The show is political. It's not that the show has not been political but I think last season it became political because people observing it drew a political angle from it. I remember Joel Surnow, the writer, saying it's really quite amazing to have the right kind of adopt the show the way they have and then have the left, Barbra Streisand and so many people on the left adopt the show for themselves as well. And that it's managed to run this kind of mutual political ground while having very strong political aspirations within the context of the show. This year, there's a couple statements that are very political. They are on purpose from the writers and I think they chose to address a really interesting situation in our society...
..

CraveOnline: Will President Logan be back?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: Yeah, he will be on in some capacity...
..

CraveOnline: Can you tell us anything about the story?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: That was about it...
..

CraveOnline: How much time has past since last season?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: I think it's about a year and a half...
..

CraveOnline: Will Jean Smart be back as Mrs. Logan?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: She and Greg both, absolutely, and I think that that was a really dangerous part and the fact is that she really did take it on as Mrs. Lincoln and that was one of those great moments where you saw an actor instead of trying to defend herself from it, absolutely attack what could have been a death blow to that character. Just truly one of the most amazing performances I've seen and someone I've had the pleasure of working with. I think they both are going to be, in which capacity and how much I don't know. I don't know that yet...
..

CraveOnline: Do we need people like Jack Bauer?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: I think we already have a lot of people like Jack Bauer. Obviously, this is a television show and it's told in a very fantastical way, but I think from every law enforcement agency across this country to the people that are in Special Forces, I think we have a lot of men and women that are doing the work that is combined into this one character. I think we have men and women all around the world doing incredibly hard work. We hear about the things that happen and I think luckily do not hear about so many things have not happened as a result of those people's work...
..

CraveOnline: How do you feel about film vs. TV these days?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: I feel like television's been getting better for a long time. I think my biggest thing about that is you have to figure out why people started to cross over. The $20 million movie disappeared. All the Ordinary Peoples and all of those kinds of films became very, very rare. The major studios realized that it was much better for them to spend $100 million on a movie, make it an extravagant thing if they were going to have to spend the kind of P&A on it to get it out there, and why risk it on a $20 million film that was story oriented. They just didn't have faith in that. All of those dramas went to television and literally, you could see its progression from ER, NYPD Blue, those great shows leading into what HBO started to do, started off with some great comedies like The Larry Sanders Show, then moving into The Sopranos, Sex and the City, one of my favorite shows I've said forever is The Wire. But you have fantastic writers realizing, and actors, and ultimately directors, if you wanted to be involved in drama, there was this huge opportunity waiting for you in television that had absolutely been shut down in the theatrical release or film world...
..

CraveOnline: Does the political climate affect people's interest in the show?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: Absolutely. I think escapism is a very broad word. I think all entertainment on some level is and I think it can also be informative and I think it can be a variety of things. But absolutely. It was uncanny the timing of us coming out with our show and the terrible events of 9/11. It certainly awakened an ear in this country regarding terrorism that I don't think was as pervasive before. So yeah. Absolutely. I think the world has changed incredibly since that terrible day and our show certainly deals with aspects of that. Again, in the context of a television show, not reality...
..

CraveOnline: Would it still work without the hour by hour gimmick?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: I don't think people like the show because it's serialized. I think people like the show because the characters are working and the writers do a fantastic job creating a world that they've found entertaining. Again, I can't tell you how lucky that is. I've been doing this for 20 years. I've never had an experience like this in my life. I certainly know I could have worked for another 20 and never had it. Law and Order is a fantastic show and it was absolutely serialized in a perfect package episode to episode to episode. This is not and I think they work in different milieus for their own different reasons. Again, I think it comes down to creating a situation that is interesting for an audience and ultimately creating characters that you care about that are in that situation...
..

CraveOnline: You were very open in a Rolling Stone..
..
interview a while back. Have you heard any feedback from that?

Kiefer Sutherland: I've heard some. I think for the most part, I was being really honest about stuff. My only disappointment with the article is we talked for two days and that was maybe representative of an hour of our conversation. But they've only got so many pages and we weren't writing a book, so there you are. I've never not answered a question and I've never not been honest about it. I've certainly seen what happens if you're not and that scares the life out of me so there you are...
..

CraveOnline: Any plans to work with your dad?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: Not right now, no...
..

CraveOnline: How are your musical pursuits going?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: You mean for Rocco de Luca and the Burden? Yeah, Rocco de Luca and the Burden is a band off a very small label that Jude Cole and I started called Ironworks. We started that about two years ago. The band started to break very strongly in ....England.... when we focused and they are now coming back to the states to kind of just start our work there...
..

CraveOnline: What's your must see TV?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: It's very hard with the schedule but the shows that I have always been a huge fan of The West Wing and I'm very sad to see that not continuing on. I'm a huge fan of The Sopranos like everybody else. I just started to watch Deadwood which I'm finally starting to get. And then one of my favorite shows that I'm just amazed that it doesn't get more attention is a show called The Wire. I just think it's beautifully written I think it's so superbly acted and filmed. There's a reality to that show that I find extraordinary. So there's a few...
..

CraveOnline: Do you do any charity work?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: Most of the charities are things we do kind of coordinated with Fox. We try and supply a lot of material, we tend to do a lot of auctions and on set things but it's really a variety. I think the one that I've been most personally focused with is Make a Wish Foundation and we had a young man, Peter, who would come back for a year and a half before he finally passed and was a very personal experience not only for me but for the rest of the show and I think the people there have done such great work, but it's again, our schedule is, and I don't want to complain about it because we love the job but it's so time consuming that it's very hard to be consistent with anything else. And I mean that literally, anything from a social life to being able to take advantage of your celebrity and do some good work with charity...
..

CraveOnline: What's going on with the 24 film?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: It's something that we really, really want to make. The real key difference would be that the 24 hour film would be a 2 hour representation of a 24 hour day. It would be the first thing that we didn't do in real time. Mainly, you have to understand, we're making two episodes every three weeks. We would have three months to make a two hour [movie]. Just to have that kind of time to really allow our cinematographer and our director and the writers to focus on such a finite thing. And actually be able to do a film that really has a conclusion, I think would be really exciting not only for us to make but I think for an audience as well. But the thing that I'm most excited about that is that we're going to make it within the context of still running the show. Everybody compares it to X-FilesX-files the movie, the show was done or at least he was done with it at that point. I actually believe that the film and the show can actually coexist and for quite some time. I think once that starts to happen, the dynamic between television and film will really change in a major way...
..
the movie, except with

CraveOnline: What confidence do you have that it'll work without the real time format?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: Because I think after five years and specifically when we go to shoot it after six years, the characters have been even more defined. I think that the sensibility of the show is really entrenched. The audience that it would be going after really understands those characters and has a certain expectation and we will do everything we can to meet that...
..

CraveOnline: Will the movie fit within the timeframe with the TV show?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: It will be outside of the TV show...
..

CraveOnline: Before or after one of the seasons?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: That is the writers' option. They're working on it now and in all fairness, I've heard rough ideas kind of in every direction...
..

CraveOnline: Are you working on anything else?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: There's a couple things that I've heard from other writers. We started this production company that's with Fox and there's a couple things we're very excited about in that area. But we're in the process of just kind of getting that on its feet. This summer was the first summer that I didn't take a film. I really wanted to take some time, anchor myself and I really wanted to focus. I think every year we've always noticed the first four episodes get more difficult to really make those work and I wanted to work with John Cassar and the writers as much as they were available so that we would really have as much a head start as we could when we started filming...
..

CraveOnline: Is there another type of project you'd like to do?..
..

Kiefer Sutherland: It really is what strikes my fancy at the time. I've been really fortunate over the course of my career to be able to have a lot of different opportunities. Why I would choose a film like Dark City was really my mood that week and why I would then go choose to do The Glass Menagerie for six months was another mood. It's generally whatever I start to think I got a shot at doing well.

14:30 - ’24’ Will In Fact Have 24 Episodes
Current mood: lethargic
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

2017, despite what you might believe, is only a few months away.  FOX's 24, which stars Kiefer Sutherland as uber-bad ass Jack Bauer, will triumphantly return to our television screens this November with a special two-hour prequel to the seventh season.  The prequel film has been filming in South Africa this month.  There was some brief confusion last week regarding how the 24 prequel movie would effect the length of the actual seventh season.  Robert Carlyle, who co-stars in the movie as an old friend of Jack's, said in an interview that the film would bleed into the seventh season and, therefore, the season would only contain twenty-two episodes once it began next January instead of the usual twenty-four.  This turned out not to be true, and FOX quickly rebuked Carlyle's statements.  One thing we did learn from the whole mix-up was that season 7 will indeed take place four years after the end of season 6, making it the year 2017 in the world of 24.

2017 is nine years away, and sort of a weird place for a TV series to be set.  Will 24 show us any futuristic technology?  My colleague John Kubicek made the great point that the writers can pretty much make anything up in terms of technology or weapons for the season, then shrug and say, "Well, it's the future, man."  In terms of how old the characters are now, Jack Bauer is right around 50 years old and Kim Bauer is solidly in her thirties. I don't at all mind Jack being 50 years old.  There's nothing wrong with a grizzled veteran who gets saltier with age.

Something was lost, clearly, in Carlyle's interview.  It's bizarre that he'd give away such false information.  He also stated that the 24 prequel film would literally lead right into season 7, basically just making the movie not a movie at all, but just the first two episodes of the season.  The film will actually take place a couple of months prior to the beginning of season 7, however.

20:08 - Kiefer to be at Comic-Con
Current mood: tired
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

"As for specific 20th talent planning to attend Comic-Con, numerous writers and producers are expected, including:

Kiefer Sutherland and Carlos Bernard will be on hand for "24."

— Seth MacFarlane, Seth Green and Alec Sulkin will represent "Family Guy" and "American Dad."

— Eliza Dushku will hype "Dollhouse," along with Mr. Whedon.

— Most of the "Bones" cast, including stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, will attend.

— From "The Simpsons" and "Futurama," look for Matt Groening, Al Jean, David X. Cohen, Katey Sagal and Billy West.

— Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell and Sarah Wayne Callies will bang the drum for "Prison Break.""

Wow! I sure wish I had the funds to go to San Diego to be a part of that. Love the Simpsons, Futurama and Joss Whedon, not to mention our main man Kiefer! Hope we get some good pics from that.

There won't be any public appearances made by the actors in promoting their work, though, if there's an actors strike. So Kiefer won't be promoting Mirrors, if the strike is on. I'm really hoping there is no strike, but I hoped there wasn't a writers strike, too, and see where that got me!

Anyway, just thought I would pass on the news about a possible Kiefer sighting in the near future.

"This ring has a lot of meaning for us," said Siobhan Zetumer, an editor at Allure magazine who is engaged to supermodel agent David Bonnouvrier.
...
The 30-something Zetumer said the bauble, priced at several thousand bucks, slipped away Thursday morning as she was heading for work at the Condé Nast building in Times Square.

Zetumer, a former Chanel model, said her husband-to-be gave her the ring at an emotional ceremony in their SoHo pad last year.
...
The cabby is a black man and drove a taxi with a digital ad on the roof, Zetumer said.

Applying hand cream while wearing an expensive ring proved costly for former high-fashion model Siobhan Zetumer, who lost the bauble in a New York taxi.
...
Zetumer is now an editor at Allure magazine and told the New York Daily News she last saw the ring Friday.

"I stupidly took it off for a moment to put on some hand cream," she said. "I usually put it in my bag, but I was tired and distracted."

DUH-WONDER HOW MUCH MORE MONEY SHE COST DAVID...MAINLY IN THEIR DIVORCE!! (so, did she lose it on Thursday or Friday?  I wonder how quickly she got David to buy her another expensive bauble?  Gold-digger or not?  Hmmmm????

Kiefer is so sexy! He's one of the greatest actors around and he's got rugged good looks that is often missing in the industry today. His voice is to die for! Siobhan? Yeah, she's okay, but she has not been able to put that spark back into Kiefer's eyes. His dog, Jayhay has gotten Kiefer to smile more genuinely than Siobhan has! Wish he would relax and rediscover his passion for life. Miss the old Kiefer!

i think your dead on...she his type physiclly, and i know they are suppose to be madly in love, but all their photos look staged ...almost forced...except one from last august...i think he puttin on show...i miss old crazy kiefer who was always real...and free, he looks sober, healthy biut not crazy about the lady...who knows...

she is after his money! i know people who know her from her days at chanel when she was a model. she always looked for men who were loaded and easy targets...then gets them to marry her quickly. thats what she did with david...and i think poor sweet kiefer is her next target. i hope he wises up and gets a pre nup...bet she will pull a heather mills. im not a nay sayer, or a hater..its what i have been told by very reliable sources in her industry.

she was engaged to a model for chanel. and they had already picked a date, got ring...and such..left him after 8 months of living together when she switch to david agency, and made moves on him...wound up very quickly on his arm and soon was married like in 8 or 9 months...my sources are not big kiefer fans...or non kiefer fans. They have no reason to lie. They just knew her..one worked with her...one was a model at david agency...im not repeatin all the seedy details because you are right it is hearsay...but i think its a very reliable source..i am a kiefer fan, and dont want to think of him ..like an easy target, i hope if this is true...that he can see it...thats all. I do think its true.maybe she will prove me wrong.

This woman seems to have married David for his wealth and position and then when she achieved what she wanted which was a nice position at Allure she dumps David and moves onto Kiefer.
Looks like she moved in on Kiefer in July while she was still married to David; finalized her divorce while Kiefer was in jail and was ready to make her move, free as a bird, when he got out.
Now they are talking marriage after only what a few months. Why the rush for her to marry him? Hmmmmm, inquiring minds want to know.
I wish someone would explain this to me. Kiefer has already been divorced twice and as a fan of his I would just like to see him with a nice woman.
I hope I am wrong about Siobhan because if I am not this marriage will not last either.

Hell-raiser Kiefer Sutherland lights up local restaurants with brunette after filming the movie prequel to his hit TV show

Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland washed giant tiger prawns down with whisky just hours after fighting a mock battle with armed guerilla fighters in Cape Town.

The 41-year-old action hero was in the city for the past month to shoot a movie based on his hit television show, 24.

In the film, called Day 7, Sutherland's 24 persona, maverick agent Jack Bauer, once again becomes entwined in an international terrorist threat, saving the day by outwitting troops brandishing AK-47s.

Production work on the movie, which is mainly set in Sangala, a fictitious African country, has moved to Los Angeles, where the few last scenes will be shot with veteran actor Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie's father, who plays the terrorist mastermind.

The film is a prequel to 24's seventh season, which was delayed due to the Hollywood writers' strike.

"We're excited about the prequel; it explores Jack's complex emotional state and still has the suspense that fans have come to expect from 24," said executive producer Howard Gordon.

This week, the Sunday Times met Jon Cassar, the award-winning director of 24, and actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim, between shoots at the deserted La Farge quarry in Durbanville.

The quarry was transformed into a rural wasteland with car wrecks, goats, chickens — and sheep heads being grilled on open flames. Scores of teenagers from the nearby Nyanga township huddled under blankets, braving the icy Cape drizzle to feature as rebels when the cameras started rolling.

Cassar said: "The sixth season of 24 ends with Jack's life in tatters. Both his personal life and his career are basically over. So, in the movie, Jack travels from country to country searching for answers ... and unfortunately gets caught up in a civil war."

However, when the cameras stopped rolling, Sutherland was cushioned in luxury: relaxing at the posh Radisson Hotel and dining at the finest restaurants in the city.

Last week, Sutherland, who was famously deserted at the altar by the Runaway Bride actress Julia Roberts, was spotted sharing an intimate dinner with a mystery brunette, thought to be his new girlfriend, journalist Siobhan Bonnouvrier, at the romantic Beluga Restaurant in Green Point.

The pair so fancied their giant tiger prawn starter that they ordered another one. Sutherland tucked into a sirloin steak with skinny potato chips and Bonnouvrier into half a free-range chicken with goat's cheese for their main course.

He quaffed whisky, while she sipped two glasses of organic red wine.

"Kiefer was completely chilled. He was casually chatting to some guy while having a smoke break outside the restaurant," said Michelle de Wet, a senior manager at Beluga.

The actor tipped their Beluga waitress R300 on a R1000 bill.

Sutherland's divorce from his second wife, model Kelly Winn, was finalized last month, and speculation is that Bonnouvrier will soon be wife number three.

Apparently the dark-tressed beauty is not fazed by Sutherland's fame and hard-partying ways.

In photographs, Sutherland is mostly seen dragging on a Camel Light or nursing a Scotch.

The film — locally facilitated by production company Moonlighting — is slated for release in November.

Non-Profit Internet Phenomenon "The 1 Second Film" visits Google, Kicks Off YouTube's New Live Performance Series, and Embarks on "Road To Oprah" Quest
LOS ANGELES – Kiefer Sutherland, Stephen Colbert, and Kevin Bacon are just a few of the many celebrities joining thousands of producers to help create "The 1 Second Film," an online-based non-profit art project being called the "largest collaboration in filmmaking history." On October 4th, the non-profit collaboration begins a 10,000-mile quest to ask Oprah Winfrey to join their list of producers, simply by donating $1.
One dollar is the minimum amount to be credited as a producer of the innovative micro-collaborative project, which is using the Internet to allow anyone in the world to make a movie together. To date, the production has raised over $170,000 of a $1 million goal with the help of over 7,700 producers from 50 countries. But will Oprah join them? That is the question the filmmakers are preparing to drive 10,000 miles to find out.
On September 21st, The 1 Second Film's "Road to Oprah" documentary crew (and band) kicked off YouTube's Live Performance series at their corporate headquarters in San Bruno, California. The YouTube visit followed a presentation by creator/director Mullick at Google's as part of their speaker series. Traveling to the two presentations served as a test-drive for the Road to Oprah bio-bus, and the film crew and band stopped by the Haight in San Francisco and Telegraph Ave in Berkeley for impromptu performances on the journey home to Los Angeles.
On October 4th the Road to Oprah team will embark on a 30-day bio-diesel tour across the US and Canada, starting from the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, CA and ending in Chicago, IL, where they hope to meet Oprah Winfrey to ask her for $1.
Along their way to Chicago, The 1 Second Film crew and accompanying band will be visiting dozens of universities and house parties to give presentations about their work in progress. Speaking events are being set up with the help of the film's online producers across the country. The crew will be traveling in a converted bio-diesel school bus purchased with online donations.
"This project has grown very organically," says Nirvan Mullick, an award-winning director who began the project 7 years ago while studying animation at California Institute of the Arts.
One brief second of experimental animation is at the core of the project, which has grown to include an online community and a making of documentary fueled by grassroots and celebrity support. The documentary includes footage uploaded by producers via the website, as well as appearances by many of the celebrities involved. The 24 frames of animation consist of large 5ft x 9ft murals that were painted by hundreds of participants during a collaborative event held at CalArts on March 8th, 2001 (International Women's Day).
Mullick has formed a non-profit foundation to oversee the effort, and will donate profits from the finished film to the Global Fund for Women. "The film is about the collaborative process," says Mullick, who believes art can bring people together in powerful ways.
After graduating CalArts, Mullick developed a 5 Phase Plan to expand the micro-collaborative concept to address various social issues. The goal- to bring people together, one second at a time.
Three years ago Mullick set out to grow the project beyond his school. Starting with no budget and a simple flier, he began pitching his film to people met on the streets of Hollywood, raising funds dollar-by-dollar.
After capturing the imagination - and spare change - of hundreds, including celebrities like Christina Ricci and Ben Harper, Mullick saved enough to buy a camera and began posting entertaining videos of the fund raising adventure on the1secondfilm.com.
As word quickly spread online, thousands of donations, letters, pictures, and videos came in from around the world. Using the online donations, Mullick developed the1secondfilm.com into a mini-social-network, giving the thousands of producers unique profiles to allow further participation.
"I like to support this kind of artistic endeavor," says actor Seth Green in a video embedded in his producer profile on the1secondfilm.com. Green chipped in $41 after meeting Mullick at the Sundance Film Festival.
"It's inspiring to be a small part of something so big," says David Gallimore, a DMV employee in Georgia who sent in $500 after finding the project online.
Mullick says the idea of selling $1 producer credits came from selling chocolate bars as a kid. Is a $1 Producer credit really valid? "It's as valid as most of my credits," asserts Stephen Colbert, who donated $11 to become a Producer. Colbert even requested the Internet Movie Database add his credit. IMDb complied before being overwhelmed by the film's thousands of producer credits.
In order to list all the participants, Mullick estimates the end credits will last an astounding 90 minutes; producers will be listed in order of amount. Kiefer Sutherland is amongst the top Executive Producers after donating $600.23 at a restaurant. A celebrity-laden making of documentary will play alongside the credits, culminating with the Road to Oprah quest.
"Oprah probably has no idea we are coming yet," says Mullick. In an effort to let Oprah know, the filmmakers recently launched www.roadtooprah.com where people can click a button to "Tell Oprah" about their quest, coordinate and attend events in their city, and follow the adventures along the way.
"We have no idea what will happen," says Juli Crockett, lead singer of the folk/Americana band The Evangenitals (www.evangenitals.com) who will be touring with the film and composing songs on the road about the journey, "this film is really about the journey."
The Road to Oprah tour will be the culmination of a one-second film several years in the making, as the production attempts to bring as many people as possible together to make film history.

04:31 - Another Strike Ready To Rear It’s Ugly Head?!?!?!?
Current mood: confused
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities

We have two weeks before another strike can take our favorites movies and television series out of production once again, and things are starting to get scary. If things aren't settled by June 30, we could see productions halted, and once again we could have blank television screens full of repeats. Many movie productions are trying to get things settled in the next week or two. If a strike does happen though, not every production will be ready for it.

As far as television goes, the Kiefer Sutherland series, 24, looks to be ready if a strike does happen. They have production mostly wrapped up on both the season and the movie prequel set to air this fall. Other series have at least several episodes of their next seasons already in the can and ready to go. These include such hits as Heroes and Grey's Anatomy. However, a new season might be delayed. The ABC series has been under fire this week because of the comments made by one of the series' stars.

Katherine Heigl plays Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy, and earlier this week she pulled herself out of contention for this year's Emmy race. She won an Emmy last year for her role, but this year she doesn't feel that there was enough there for her to receive a nomination. This has caused quite a stir among fans and non-fans of the show. Some see her words as ungrateful and biting the hand that has fed her so much success.

One writer has spoken out about her comments, and some are saying that Heigl's time on the show is short. We all know they have no problems removing someone from the cast if an issue arises. Look at what happened with Isaiah Washington at the end of season two. Time will only tell if Heigl remains a part of the Grey's Anatomy family.
