Obama’s Forgotten People
Current mood: bored
Category: News and Politics
watch, copy, share, spread this video. he just didn’t care about his people. He tossed them aside after he got their votes. I know most of the Obama will attack for this, but if this is what he did in public office in Chicago can we expect better from him now?
Ok this vid would not start on it’s own so here is the link to it. The vid
Tenants were left without heat for five weeks
… A family "boiled water on the stove and draped plastic sheeting across the windows in an effort to keep warm during the city’s bitter winters, as the heating was not working."
There was drug selling and prostitution
The buildings were filthy and rat- and roach-infested
There was urine and feces all around
Rubbish piled up uncollected.
Repeated requests for basic repairs were ignored
There were drug dealers all around.
People were fighting and getting shot.
Tenants had to call the city just to get the garbage collected because Rezko and his company ignored their requests for help.
Rezko moved on — turning away from the TAXPAYER-FUNDED "rehab" projects (he got over $100 million) and all of its tenants — with many buildings boarded up as bills and mortgage payments went unpaid, and Rezko going into the fast-food business.
And Sen. Barack Obama turned a blind eye.
NOTE: FOR SOME REASON THE VIDEO DOESN’T ACTUALLY SHOW UP ON THE BLOG NOW FOR SOME REASON. I’LL HAVE TO GIVE YOU THE DIRECT LINK TO THE VID SO YOU CAN VIEW IT.

We need a candidate that can WIN
Current mood: bummed
Category: News and Politics
Special thanks to Sharon from Hillary Supporters Only for letting me post this blog which was taken from the previously mentioned group.
Democrats can win the White House, IF they get the majority of electoral votes. Each state is assigned a number of electoral college votes, based on population.
'Blue' states are ones that commonly vote democratic. 'Red' states commonly vote Republican. 'Purple' states, also known as 'swing states', can be one by either party. Purple states are the ones that each party wants to win to put them 'over the top'.
The way democrats can win the White House is to win all of our 'blue' states and as many of the 'purple' states as possible. So, just as in any sporting event, you want to put your best player out there to win you as many points as possible. Well, Hillary is that winner, and I have the figures to prove it.
I hope you have spreadsheet software to follow me. Here is a spreadsheet of electoral college numbers, and what states have been won thus far in the primaries: http://florida-delegates.com/electoral.xls
And, here is one that shows states, by party color designation: http://florida-delegates.com/electoral.xls
If I look at just blue states (ones we should win), Hillary would have a total of 120 electoral votes, to Obamas 63. So, for our 'commonly won' states, she is our winner.
If I combine purple and blue states (our 'commonly won' states and ones we hope to have); Hillary would have a total of 198 electoral votes, to Obamas 123. So, if we get lucky and win them all, she is, once again, our winner.
But, the key here is how does she do in purple (coveted) states, over him? Well, I cannot include Michigan because that is totally up in the air. I have, however, included Florida because she won that state, 'hands down'. So, for purple states, Hillary has a total of 78, over Obamas 60. Even if I took out Florida, she would win purple states by 1. So, once again, she is our winner.
Are you getting the 'pattern' here? Winner, Winner, Winner....
Take Care, Sharon http://florida-delegates.com/petition/ http://texas-caucus.blogspot.com/

A rant about inconsiderate people!
Current mood: angry
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers
Ok, so I have a business office both in my home and outside my home, basically because I don't want strangers always coming into my house. I've had that office for several years and during that time it has been sold to new owners who were all quite pleasant and easy to deal with all the time. The building has just been sold to another owner who called and demanded I get my stuff out of the office by next week or he would haul it away to the garbage dump. Doesn't even bother with a polite introduction, just basically tells me to get the fuck out. Today is Thursday. That leaves me the weekend, when all the movers in my area are booked up.=, then just a few days next week when I can actually find the time to pack up, find a storage facility and a mover who is available. He wants to renovate the office which is fine, but to give tenants just one week to get this done is beyond unbelievable. He said when he purchased the building the seller did not tell him there were still tenants in there. Yet when I called him he knew exactly what my office looked like. So apparently he had done a walk through before purchase and knew damn well people were still there. I called my lawyers and he called the new owner and told him if he touched my stuff he'd be in court immediately since this month's rent was already paid.
What is it with people today. He couldn't give an extra few days so that people could get things in order. Between now and Monday I have to get this place packed up and ready for the movers. On the weekened it takes over and hour and a half to even get down there. I hope it doesn't snow or something or I'm screwed. Why are people such assholes today. If you happen to read any stories over the weekend out of Pennsylvania about a tenant pushing their landlord into traffic, that most likely will be me.

Discovery and Oprah
Current mood: disgusted
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Ok, I've just recently on the news that Oprah is getting her own network through Discovery. Congrats and good for her. Personally I can't stand her nor her brand of television. However, the thing I find disturbing is that Discovery is taking off an excellent show in order to accomodate her. They will replacing Discovery Health for Oprah.
I'm sorry, but nothing Oprah shows can compare to real medical shows where you can actually learn something. To me this just seems to be more dumbing down of the American public. What's her biggest medical piece going to be? Dr. Phil butting in where he isn't wanted? Or somebody else like him?
Sorry but I just had to get out how disappointed I am in Discovery overall right now.

Log Cabin Republicans
Current mood: confused
Category: News and Politics
I just don't get it. Why would any large group of voters want to vote for the party that denies them rights and basically shows hate and comtempt for their very existence?
If anybody watched the CNN debate you'll understand what I mean. A Brigadier asked a question regarding gays and lesbians serving openly in the military. The candidates who answered basically stated that it would hurt the morale of the troops and have a negative impact on their cohesion. Bullshit. They said the same thing years ago when blacks started serving in the military. At least change the BS you hand people from time to time. Face it, they are serving in the military already. Their sexual orientation does not change who and what they are. They will still be the same person whether they are closeted or open. If you can trust them now, you could trust them even knowing they are gay. When the candidates answered there were a great round of applause when they basically said gays cannot serve in the military, as if this was some great accomplishment. When Mitt Romney didn't just come out and say no gays in the military he was booed. The crowd also booed the Brigadier General.
Why then would the gay and lesbian community want to support this type of hatred? Yes, I know the dems aren't always much better on passing gay legislation but at least they aren't openly hostile like the republicans. How could they boo a man who served honorably for over 40 years in the military? That is just shameful. I'm sorry, since the republicans are always screaming about how great the troops are and how we should support them unfailingly, how can they boo someone who served for that number of years? Digusting.
Wouldn't you be better putting your backing behind someone who doesn't hate you? Even if they aren't as "up" on what needs to be done, an openminded audience would be better than one that is so closed off on the issue. At least if you can get a dialogue going you might get somewhere. But when you are so hated by one group do you think they will ever be open enough to listen to you? Or would they nod and smile and think how much better off we all would be if gays and lesbians just didn't exist. It seems to defeat the purpose.

How can these things happen in this day and age?
Current mood: angry

Wealthy NY couple charged with slavery
By FRANK ELTMAN, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 21 minutes ago
A millionaire couple accused of keeping two Indonesian women as slaves in their luxurious Long Island home and abusing them for years have been indicted on federal slavery charges.
Varsha Mahender Sabhnani, 35, and her husband, Mahender Murlidhar Sabhnani, 51, operate a worldwide perfume business out of their home, contracting with overseas factories to manufacture the fragrances.
The two were arrested last week after one of their servants was found wandering outside a doughnut shop on Long Island, wearing only pants and a towel. The woman was believed to have fled the home in Muttontown, a tony community on Long Island's north shore, when she took the trash out the night before.
The couple pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court, and a magistrate judge set bail at $3.5 million and imposed home detention with electronic monitoring.
An indictment handed up Tuesday night formally charged with them with two counts of forced labor and added two counts of harboring illegal residents.
Charles A. Ross, who represents Varsha Sabhnani, has said that the couple traveled extensively and that the two Indonesian women were free to leave whenever they wished. He previously described them as "model citizens" who "only want to clear their names."
Friends and relatives indicated the two would be willing to post bail, but as of Wednesday, they remained in custody.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Demitri Jones called the allegations "truly a case of modern-day slavery."
The women, prosecutors said, were subjected to beatings, had scalding water thrown on them and were forced to repeatedly climb stairs as punishment for perceived misdeeds. In one case, prosecutors said, one of the women was forced to eat 25 hot chili peppers at one time.
One of the women also told authorities they were forced to sleep on mats in the kitchen and were fed so little, they had to steal food.
The women legally arrived in the United States on B-1 visas in 2002; the Sabhnanis then confiscated their passports and refused to let them leave their home, authorities said. Identified in court papers as Samirah and Nona, the women said they were promised payments of $200 and $100 a month, but federal prosecutors said they were never given money directly. One of the victims' daughters living in Indonesia was sent $100 a month, prosecutors said.
They have since been cared for by Catholic Charities, according to a spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
I just can't understand how something like this can happen today. It's always shocking the way we treat our fellow human beings. It's hard to fathom how family, friends and visitors to this home could not have known something was going on here.
Just consider, these women were here legally. How many other women might be in this same position that nobody even knows about? I wonder if the families had not received a monthly sum of money, would this outrage have been noticed sooner? I'm sure there are more shocking stories out there. I just happened upon this one today. I know people who live in that community. Unfortunate stories like this now have me wondering about those who I consider friends. Did they know anything about this? Would they do something like this themselves if they did know about it?
I hope that they throw the book at these people and actually make their punishment a real punishment. Not just some slap on the wrist and a promise not to do it again. I actually found this story by accident too. Why was this not front page news around the country? Was it because they are women and it really doesn't count as news?

A Vermont Mother Speaks Out
Current mood: disappointed
Ok I totally stole this from Shawn. I thought it was really moving and said things that are so true. If you don't agree with it, that's fine, everybody has a right to their own opinion. If you're going to just send mail or post a comment that is full of hate, don't bother. I'm not interested. I fully support the rights of both heterosexual and homosexual people and couples to live their lives with the interference of government or private citizens. Unless they are doing harm to someone else they have no right to be punished just for being who they are.
A Vermont Mother Speaks Out
A Vermont Mother Speaks Out Letter to the Editor
By Sharon Underwood For the Valley News (White River Junction, VT/Hanover, NH) April 30, 2000
As the mother of a gay son, I've seen firsthand how cruel and misguided people can be.
Many letters have been sent to the Valley News concerning the homosexual menace in Vermont. I am the mother of a gay son and I've taken enough from you good people.
I'm tired of your foolish rhetoric about the "homosexual agenda" and your allegations that accepting homosexuality is the same thing as advocating sex with children. You are cruel and ignorant. You have been robbing me of the joys of motherhood ever since my children were tiny.
My firstborn son started suffering at the hands of the moral little thugs from your moral, upright families from the time he was in the first grade. He was physically and verbally abused from first grade straight through high school because he was perceived to be gay.
He never professed to be gay or had any association with anything gay, but he had the misfortune not to walk or have gestures like the other boys. He was called "fag" incessantly, starting when he was 6.
In high school, while your children were doing what kids that age should be doing, mine labored over a suicide note, drafting and redrafting it to be sure his family knew how much he loved them. My sobbing 17-year-old tore the heart out of me as he choked out that he just couldn't bear to continue living any longer, that he didn't want to be gay and that he couldn't face a life without dignity.
You have the audacity to talk about protecting families and children from the homosexual menace, while you yourselves tear apart families and drive children to despair. I don't know why my son is gay, but I do know that God didn't put him, and millions like him, on this Earth to give you someone to abuse. God gave you brains so that you could think, and it's about time you started doing that.
At the core of all your misguided beliefs is the belief that this could never happen to you, that there is some kind of subculture out there that people have chosen to join. The fact is that if it can happen to my family, it can happen to yours, and you won't get to choose. Whether it is genetic or whether something occurs during a critical time of fetal development, I don't know. I can only tell you with an absolute certainty that it is inborn.
If you want to tout your own morality, you'd best come up with something more substantive than your heterosexuality. You did nothing to earn it; it was given to you. If you disagree, I would be interested in hearing your story, because my own heterosexuality was a blessing I received with no effort whatsoever on my part. It is so woven into the very soul of me that nothing could ever change it. For those of you who reduce sexual orientation to a simple choice, a character issue, a bad habit or something that can be changed by a 10-step program, I'm puzzled. Are you saying that your own sexual orientation is nothing more than something you have chosen, that you could change it at will? If that's not the case, then why would you suggest that someone else can?
A popular theme in your letters is that Vermont has been infiltrated by outsiders. Both sides of my family have lived in Vermont for generations. I am heart and soul a Vermonter, so I'll thank you to stop saying that you are speaking for "true Vermonters."
You invoke the memory of the brave people who have fought on the battlefield for this great country, saying that they didn't give their lives so that the "homosexual agenda" could tear down the principles they died defending. My 83-year-old father fought in some of the most horrific battles of World War II, was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.
He shakes his head in sadness at the life his grandson has had to live. He says he fought alongside homosexuals in those battles, that they did their part and bothered no one. One of his best friends in the service was gay, and he never knew it until the end, and when he did find out, it mattered not at all. That wasn't the measure of the man.
You religious folk just can't bear the thought that as my son emerges from the hell that was his childhood he might like to find a lifelong companion and have a measure of happiness. It offends your sensibilities that he should request the right to visit that companion in the hospital, to make medical decisions for him or to benefit from tax laws governing inheritance.
How dare he? you say. These outrageous requests would threaten the very existence of your family, would undermine the sanctity of marriage.
You use religion to abdicate your responsibility to be thinking human beings. There are vast numbers of religious people who find your attitudes repugnant. God is not for the privileged majority, and God knows my son has committed no sin.
The deep-thinking author of a letter to the April 12 Valley News who lectures about homosexual sin and tells us about "those of us who have been blessed with the benefits of a religious upbringing" asks: "What ever happened to the idea of striving . . . to be better human beings than we are?"
Indeed, sir, what ever happened to that?
Sharon Underwood lives in White River Junction, Vt.
